Students from Modesto City Schools high schools will perform with JazzReach’s Metta Quintet following a second, three-day mentoring program that provided the students a unique opportunity to bridge cultural, economic, religious and gender divides, and unify in the spirit of creative collaboration and making great music together. During JazzReach’s intensive three-day residency, the students rehearsed with, interacted with, and learned from the Metta Quintet. Now they will be performing live with them! Come and have fun with us!
The Metta Quintet is a cohesive, tight-knit unit of esteemed creative artists fueled by musical curiosity and dedicated to exploring new artistic territory. They maintain a passionate commitment to arts education, fostering new audiences and nurturing young talent.
Established in 1994, JazzReach is a nationally recognized New York City-based 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, performance, creation and teaching of jazz music.

Are you coming to the sold out Wynonna Judd performance on April 24? Then be sure to participate in Dine Out for the Arts! This is a new and recurring fundraising initiative that supports the mission of the Gallo Center for the Arts to illuminate, educate and entertain our community. You can play a part simply by going to one of the participating restaurants before the show!
It’s really that simple. Each of the Modesto restaurants taking part are donating a percentage of their sales on that day to the Gallo Center. There’s nothing you have to do other than make a reservation at your choice of one of these wonderful dining establishments, and then savor a fine dinner from their marvelous menus. Mission accomplished!
And then you’re off to the debut performance at the Gallo Center by one of the greatest artists in country music history!

Spend an evening with a true Broadway legend as three-time Tony Award winner
Patti LuPone performs her concert Songs From a Hat , where she selects her most famous and personal favorite songs from slips of paper in her top hat. Unscripted and full of hits! LuPone last appeared at the Gallo Center for the Arts on September 27, 2007, performing with the Modesto Symphony Orchestra at our grand opening. We are beyond thrilled to welcome her back.
“
Patti LuPone is that very particular kind of animal, perhaps the last of the breed, a genuine Golden Age Broadway star, the kind that can turn a theater into a living room, throwing out an electric current that makes 1,000 people feel as if they are being spoken to, and sung to, individually.”
MAUREEN DOWD, THE NEW YORK TIMES WATCH A VIDEO!
In the midst of her typically hectic schedule, the extraordinary entertainer and actor Patti LuPone made some time to answer a few questions about her upcoming performance at the Center, and more.
Q: ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2007, YOU PERFORMED WITH THE MODESTO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA AT THE GALLO CENTER’S GRAND OPENING. MANY PEOPLE HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF THAT EVENING…
PL: I can’t believe it’s been almost 20 years since my last appearance on your stage! It will be great to be back.
Q: TELL US ABOUT SONGS FROM A HAT. WHAT IS THE CONCERT ABOUT?
PL: Songs From a Hat is a show of all the songs I’ve ever sung, written on slips of paper we keep in a top hat. I have no idea what I’m going to sing; it’s whatever I pull out of the hat. Sometimes it’s a big Broadway showstopper I’m known for. Sometimes a ballad. It’s a great show and a lot of fun.
Q: WHAT ELSE CAN OUR AUDIENCE EXPECT?
PL: Lots of surprises! That’s the fun of the show. The spontaneity. I never know which title will be pulled from the hat. But with each title there is always a story attached!
Q: BEYOND YOUR CURRENT TOUR, WHAT SPECIAL EVENTS DO YOU HAVE PLANNED?
PL: Right now just lots of touring, concerts and singing!
Q: IS THERE ANOTHER BROADWAY SHOW IN YOUR FUTURE?
PL: Not on the horizon, no. I just finished a Broadway run this fall in Jen Silverman’s comedy The Roommate with Mia Farrow. I’ve also had a great time working in television though. Most recently in Marvel world in the series Agatha All Along , currently streaming on Disney+, where I worked with an incredible group of women and the adorable Joe Locke. And this past fall, while starring in The Roommate, I filmed a fun character in the HBO series And Just Like That , which is still-tobe seen.

Dogstar epitomizes the quintessential Southern California storytelling rock band they’ve always been in their hearts, making deeply resonant music that literally comes from Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees – the name of their new album. Comprised of guitarist/vocalist Bret Domrose, drummer Robert Mailhouse and bassist Keanu Reeves, Dogstar was born in 1991 as a band of friends who came together in a garage in Southern California and simply dreamed of playing music together and making a little noise.
Now, all these years later, Domrose, Mailhouse and Reeves took some time at the tail end of an historic lockdown to create this collection of songs that fully encompasses who they are as artists today. The happily reunited rock trio’s official return came in May 2023 – more than 20 years since their last performance together – with their first public perfo rmance at the BottleRock Napa Valley music festival with a set that sparked fan and critical praise alike, including the live debut of their lead single “Everything Turns Around.“
Early on the morning of Monday, June 9, 2014, the Gallo Center’s Chief Operating Officer, Al Poulus, discovered that a malfunctioning icemaker had flooded the Center’s first and second floor lobbies with thousands of gallons of water. It had happened over a 24-hour period when the building was not in use.
One of Al’s first calls was to Patricia Hill Thomas, the since-retired Stanislaus County Chief Operations Officer, who, along with employees of the county’s Chief Executive Office, immediately began a massive, 3-month restoration effort that led to a full recovery from the devastating event. Only one public show was cancelled because of the flood.
Stanislaus County was there for us during that awful time, but then, it always has been there for us.
The Gallo Center for the Arts exists today because the county jointly funded its construction with more than 4,000 individuals and businesses that, inspired by the late Marie Damrell Gallo, contributed to what is now the heart of downtown Modesto. Today we are operated by a non-profit organization that
benefits from a long-term operating agreement with the County, which retains title to the building and land.
Since opening in 2007, the Gallo Center has benefited greatly by the county’s leadership not only in maintaining the Center as a world-class performing arts venue, but also to enhancing and improving it. These efforts are critical to the Center’s competitiveness in continuing to attract and present major artists from across the globe. In the last five years alone, the county has invested in a $1.4 million roof refurbishment and an $800,000 HVAC replacement. In addition, it has contributed approximately $200,000 to general maintenance and repairs.
We are incredibly grateful to Stanislaus County and its Board of Supervisors—above, left to right: Buck Condit, Chairman, District 1; Channce Condit, District 5; Vito Chiesa, Vice-Chairman, District 2; Mani Grewal, District 4; and Terry Withrow, District 3.
Thanks for all you do in support of the Gallo Center’s mission to illuminate, educate and entertain!

The Jacksons recently celebrated 50 years as one of the most successful groups in music history. They rose to fame for their combination of extraordinary musical talent and spectacular choreography, earning pop royalty status in the music world. The Jacksons literally made music history with four debut singles all reaching No. 1. Their Motown recordings alone have sold in excess of 200 million. Expect all the wonderful hits their fans adore: “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” “I’ll Be There,” “Never Can Say Goodbye,” “Dancing Machine” and more.
The show also will feature British pop star Haydon Eshun, who performed the lead in Michael Jackson’s Thriller-Live on London’s West End for over 10 years.
EDITOR’S NOTE: This concert originally was to include Tito Jackson, but with his death last September, Tito’s son Taryll Jackson will step into his father’s shoes next to uncles Marlon and Jackie. Taryll has already been touring and performing with The Jacksons as a lead vocalist and dancer, and had performed on albums with his uncle Michael

How great is this? The two bands from Villa Corona in the state of Jalisco that are among the most successful exponents of the “technobanda” sound are coming to Modesto to share a stage at the Gallo Center!
Banda Machos performs a combination of Banda, Quebradita, and Ranchera music, and is renowned for singing songs composed by Joan Sebastian, Jose Guadalupe Esparza, José Alfredo Jiménez, Ivan Diaz, Horacio Ortíz and Marco Antonio Solís. The band has been together for more 26 years and has recorded 22 albums.
Banda Maguey , nicknamed “The Star of the Dances,” became a favorite during the 1990s Banda craze. Led by former vocalist Ernesto Solano, they took over the radio waves with their debut album Tumbando Caña in 1994, which contained a number of hits including “El Alacran.”

First time at the Gallo Center! Jeff Foxworthy is one of the most respected and successful comedians in the country. He is the largestselling comedy recording artist in history, a multiple Grammy Award nominee, the star of numerous TV and radio shows, the best-selling author of more than 26 books, and of course a member of the enormously successful Blue Collar Comedy tours, films and broadcasts. Widely known for his redneck jokes, his act goes well beyond that to explore the humor in everyday family interactions and human nature, a style that has been compared to Mark Twain’s.
“
Foxworthy is especially virtuosic in his physical comedy, his flights of fancy and lightning shifts of tone and mood, he blends all these elements effortlessly. He may define being redneck as possessing “a glorious lack of sophistication,” but the truth is that Foxworthy, for all his regularguy image, is a decidedly sophisticated artist.”
