MEET AL POULUS
INTERIM GALLO CENTER CEO
After CEO Chad Hilligus left in June to accept a similar role at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles, the Gallo Center’s board of directors appointed Al Poulus, our Chief Operating Officer, to serve as interim CEO while a search is conducted for Hilligus’ successor.
“Al is providing steady leadership for our talented staff and daily operations,” said board chair Ginger Johnson. “His deep knowledge of and commitment to our mission make him exceptionally well-suited to guide the Center through this transition.”
Poulus is well known to many in the community and brings extensive experience to the role. He recently celebrated 20 years with the Center. Poulus joined the organization as Director of Information Technology nearly a year before we opened, advanced to Director of Technology &
Theater Operations in 2010 and was named Chief Operating Officer in 2018.
Poulus has led or played a key role in major technology and infrastructure initiatives, the move from temporary offices to the magnificent facility we occupy today, the spectacular 2007 grand opening ceremonies, and many other pivotal moments in the Center’s history. He has worked behind the scenes to help create memorable experiences for patrons, artists, students, volunteers and the community.
A native of Chicago, Poulus moved to Modesto in 1994. He is an alumnus of California State University-Stanislaus. He and his wife Katie reside in north Modesto with their three children.

It has been 14 years since their first Gallo Center appearance, and we are thrilled to welcome them back. Founded in 1978 in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Conjunto Primavera is a celebrated Mexican norteño-sax band known for romantic ballads, heartfelt lyrics, and a signature sound that blends norteño, cumbia, and Tejano influences. Led by vocalist Tony Meléndez, the group rose to prominence with hits such as Necesito Decirte, Perdóname Mi Amor, and Algo de Mí. Over the years, they have earned numerous awards and become one of the most recognized and beloved acts in regional Mexican music.

Appearing at the Gallo Center for the first time, Latin Grammy Awardwinner La Original Banda el Limón de Salvador Lizárraga is one of regional Mexican music’s most celebrated groups. Known for its Sinaloan banda style, the ensemble performs rancheras, corridos, cumbias, ballads, boleros, and sones. Since forming in 1965, the group has released 35 albums.
Joining the program is Julian Torres y Mariachi Cenzontle, a Mexican mariachi group that blends traditional mariachi sound with modern influences. The ensemble is also notable as the first mariachi act signed to Snoop Dogg’s Death Row Records.

Like many barrier-breaking vocalists, Grammy Award winner Ledisi draws inspiration from Dinah Washington, one of the 20th century’s most influential artists. Celebrated as the “Queen of the Blues” and the “Queen of the Jukeboxes,” Washington also inspired a young Detroit gospel singer named Aretha Franklin.
Yet while Franklin became a household name and cultural icon, Washington—despite her enormous popularity in her day—is too often overlooked now. Ledisi aims to shine a new light on her legacy through For Dinah, her acclaimed tribute album, and in performances like this one. Jack-of-all trades Bert introduces the audience to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. The Gallo Center for the Arts is a unique public/private partnership. Construction was funded jointly by the County Of Stanislaus, which owns the facility, and contributions from more than 4,000 individuals and businesses given to a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization which today operates the Center.
Nearly 60% have household incomes ranging from $50,000 to $150,000.
Approximately 70% are in the coveted 35–64 age demographic.
Nearly 65% hold college and post-graduate degrees.
74% have lived in the San Joaquin Valley for more than 20 years.
