THE MAGIC NUMBER IS

MARCH

The number above surprises many people. $12,468 is the daily cost—

LES FRÈRES MÉDUSES MUSIC LIVES! CONCERT SERIES 3/1 FRI 7:30 PM TICKETS: $15 STUDENT; $39 REGULAR

$12,468

yes, daily cost–to operate the Gallo Center for the Arts.

What does it cover? Well, essentially, virtually every single thing needed to run the Center every day of the week, regardless of

whether there is a show in the building, or whether we’re open or

closed: utilities, cleaning, light bulbs, insurance, security services,

staff salaries, paper towels, major and minor repairs, debt service,

floor wax, laundry, stage maintenance, paint and more. It’s a whole

lot of stuff, is what it is. Not included in that number are the variable fees and accompanying costs we pay artists.

Here’s another example. Recently all of our carpeting and furniture upholstery were cleaned. This is an every-other-year project made

necessary because about 200,000 people come through the Center each season. The cost comes to more than $5,000 every time this cleaning is done.

The revenue needed to partially cover the costs of operating the

Center comes primarily from ticket sales; income from rentals to our resident companies and other organizations; interest income from

the Center’s endowment fund (in effect, our savings account); and,

contributions from the wonderful donors who support this non-profit organization with gifts of all sizes, people who recognize that these revenue sources alone do not add up to $12,468 per day. Keep in mind that unlike many other performing arts venues, the Center receives no support from a university, municipality or any other government entity.

Can I ask you a favor? March is “Arts Madness” month at the

Center. We’ll be very visible in asking for your support. Please

think about that $12,468. Think about $12,468 x 365. And then

think about what the Gallo Center means to our community, what a wonderful treasure it is.

You’ll know what to do, and we will thank and reward you for it. Sincerely,

Amber Flores

The Tony Award-winning Best Musical Monty Python’s Spamalot is coming to the Gallo Center for two nights only! This outrageous musical comedy is lovingly ripped off from the film classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail. With a book by Python co-founder Eric Idle and music and lyrics by the Grammy Awardwinning team of Mr. Idle and John Du Prez, Spamalot tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as they embark on their quest for the Holy Grail. Flying cows, killer rabbits, taunting Frenchmen, and show-stopping musical numbers are just a few of the reasons audiences worldwide are eating up Spamalot! (Please expect risqué humor and mild profanity.) Production photos by Scott Suchman and Lance Evans.
