Around the Club

The US Curling Championship for seniors was held in Portage, WI with 19 teams from all over the country. Nils Johansson’s (far right) team went 8 and 0. Nils played every match (only 4 of the 5 players shown in the picture play in a game). There will be at least 20 teams from all over the world participating in the World championship in Dumfries, Scotland.

Congratulations and good luck Mr. Johansson!

Hole in One - Are You Covered?

We have seen a half-dozen holes in one over the last couple weeks.

Have you joined the Hole in One Club?

If you wish to participate in the Hole in One Club please sign up with any of the Golf Professional Staff. There is an initial fee of $5.00 and an additional $5.00 is charged whenever the fund needs to be replenished. When a Hole in One is made, the Golf Shop staff will notify Accounting and $500 will be credited to the member’s account to be used at their discretion, within 30 days.

Two Feats in One

On January 22nd during the Solheim Cup, Carol Colton aced # 7 on the South Course for a DoubleEagle AND a hole in one! Watching in awe were Pat McTavish, Cindy Smith and Bette Fredericks. Very Well done Mrs. Colton!!

Last to First in 4.2 Seconds Joan McHugh was playing with Carol Colton, who one week prior, had a hole in one during the Solheim Cup. They were taking pictures because no one had a camera before.

They arrive at the next tee and Mrs. McHugh comments how ‘she does not like this hole’ (#8 - South Course). Well, she might now because she holed it out for an ace!!

Also witnessing were husbands Don Colton and Michael McHugh.

Golf ‘Course Record’

“Don Colton was with me yesterday and took this picture on the 7th green North. Also with us was Ed Joyce and Steve Stuebner. The 171 yard shot was a “beautiful” sweeping hook with my 7 iron that started on the right side of the green and came back all the way over to the left side.

While it was fun to get a hole in one (#3 for me), more memorable was the fact that I probably shot a course record. On the scorecard was an 8, a 7, a 6, a 5, a 4, a 3, a 2 and a 1. Is there some sort of fancy trophy for that?”

Team Support Pays Off Alan Rothberg only took one shot on #14 of the South Course from 155 yards out using a 6 iron. Witnesses were Ed Joyce, Guy Shoemaker, and Wanasa Zhou from the U of A Girl’s Golf Team during UA Girl’s Golf Team Fundraiser.

It’s Grass Roots Men’s Interclub time again!!!

The four clubs involved are The Gallery Golf Club, The Stone Canyon Club (Oro Valley), Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club (Apache Junction area), and Seville Golf & Country Club (Gilbert). Pickleball at The Sports Club A LIVELY RACKET GAME FOR ALL AGES AND ABILITIES Pickleball was created with one thing in mind: FUN! Designed to be easy to learn and play whether you are five, eighty-five or somewhere in between. The Sports Club has painted the boundary lines for Pickle-ball on our basketball court. A portable net would be set up and the Sports Club has loaner paddles and balls for your use. We will officially open the court for play on Monday, February 3rd. TroonFIT: Winter Olympic Challenge Road to Sochi February 7th-28rd Overview This Member-Only challenge will run for 3 weeks beginning February 7th. Participating Members will compete in different events. Top 3 Overall places (Gold, Silver and Bronze) will be awarded prizes.

Rules and Regulations 1.

Challenge begins on February 7th and runs through February 28th.

2.

Participants must pre-register via the front desk before Feb. 5th.

3.

Participants will compete individually.

4.

Individuals will compete in an array of events (below are the different events) 5.

Each event will be scored by a point system.

• There are 15 events.

• For example, if there are 10 individuals in an individual event: 1st Place would receive 10 points, 2nd Place would receive 9 points, and 3rd Place would receive 8 points, and so on until last place receives 1 point 6.

If there is an “X” on an event, it means you have 3 tries to improve your score.

7.

Log in your time or miles at the front desk. If you need assistance with timing on the swimming, tennis, agility course, basketball, short game, bocce ball, or longest drive events contact Jonathan or Michael and they will accommodate you, if available.

8.

The events can be done at any time during the 3 weeks.

9.

There will be a leaderboard in the lobby.
