Around the Club A 2013 Hole in One

We recently discovered a hole in one that was not announced in the Collage...Steve Schaberg! His ‘quiet’ shot of perfection was on hole #15 of the North Course from 133 yards. His “1” happened on November 14th.

Keeping it in the Family

“I had my fourth hole in one at Troon Whirlwind Golf Course at Wild Horse Pass on January 7th on the 12th hole of the Bear Claw course using a 4 hybrid for the 168 yards with Gallery member Don Brownlee in the foursome. I would have preferred getting it at The Gallery but at least it was a Troon course and you take good luck where you can get it!”

Chef’s Table January 15th Join us as Chef Brian Steiner prepares a signature multi-course dinner celebrating the New Year with new twists on classic dishes. We have a few spaces still remaining, reservations are required for this wonderful culinary experience.

Wine Dinner Season Series We will be creating four, 4-course Wine Dinners this year January-April. The first Wine Dinner this year is on Tuesday, January 21st at 6pm featuring fantastic wines from Opolo Vineyards. The cost of this 4-course dinner with paired wines is $75 per person, space is limited to the first 40 reservations. Kick off your January in style by enjoying a special evening at your club.

Complimentary Functional Movement Screening Workshop Sneak peek video on the Members Home Page HERE Date: Wednesday, January 15th Time: 4:00pm to 5:00pm Where: Sports Club Group Fitness Studio Conducted by Gina Rhine- Functional Movement Screen Certified Postural Alignment Specialist-Egoscue University The Functional Movement Screen captures fundamental movements, motor control within movement patterns, and competence of basic movements. It identifies functional limitations and asymmetries.

The FMS is comprised of seven movement tests that require a balance of mobility and stability. Put simply, the FMS is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are keys to normal function.

Benefits of the FMS: • Focus on the fundamentals of movement • Identify physical imbalances, limitations, and weaknesses.

• Establish a functional baseline to mark progress.

• Improve fundamental movement patterns with simple corrective exercises.

• Individualize training and conditioning programs for specific results.

Gina has a broad background in fitness, ranging from pre-natal/post-natal in the late 80’s to her recent years specializing in plus-side exercise and weight loss. Gina spent 25 years as an adjunct faculty member for Pima Community College Fitness Department. Gina’s specializes in small group cardio circuit training, high intensity interval training, weight circuit classes, postural alignment and much more.

Sports Club Introducing - Maureen Huckelberry, BS, MA

Maureen is a veteran in the industry, teaching fitness classes for 36 years. She has been the lead instructor and Fitness Class Coordinator at La Paloma for 20 years. In addition, she has been an Adjunct Faculty Member at Pima College and the U of A. Maureen obtained her Pilates certification at The Ron Fletcher training facility here in Tucson 17 years ago. Following a back injury, she experienced the rehabilitative benefits of Pilates.

She continues to help clients with back, shoulder and hip issues and injuries resulting from bad posture, misalignment, and muscle imbalances. Some of her training has included workshops with Polestar Pilates and BASI Pilates focusing on scoliosis and shoulder corrective exercise. She owns her own Pilates studio.

Maureen is certified by ACE as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. She is able to instruct several types of group fitness classes. She holds a BS in Physical Education and a MA in College Teaching.

She has experience in training clients in areas of golf fitness, weight loss, sports/exercise nutrition, sports conditioning and flexibility. She also holds certifications from the Human Kinetics Department at the University of Illinois, specializing in Exercise Nutrition, Group Fitness and Power Training for Elite Athletes.
