Pusch Ridge Cup The Gallery edged out a close victory in the Annual Pusch Ridge Cup which pits our men against men from Oro Valley Country Club. This was the 11th year of the competition…with our 17 – 15 victory, we hold a 6 -5 lead!! Thank you to Cyrus Whitney of The Gallery and Bruce Ferguson of Oro Valley CC for organizing this great event! Good job guys!!!

2015 Ironwood Cup Ladies Finish 4th

This year’s team had targets on their backs as we have been consistenly at the top of previous year’s Ironwood Cups. Our ladies played some great golf and had a lot of fun and are now looking forward to bringing the Cup back next year!

Featured Plant

Identifying Features Ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens) are one of easiest plants to identify in the desert. They are a large shrub with long cane-like unbranched spiny stems that grow from a short trunk. Small 2 inch leaves will grow from the stems when there is enough moisture. Dense clusters of red tubular flowers grow from the end of the stems from March through June.

Habitat Ocotillo prefer a habitat that is open and very rocky, and where the soil is well drained. Areas such as rocky slopes, mesas, washes and desert grasslands.

Range Ocotillo are common in most areas of the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts. They are also found in western Texas through to southern California.

Life Span There is much discussion on exactly how old Ocotillo can live. A good estimate is 60 years although some studies indicate they can live well over 100 years Size Ocotillo can reach heights of up to 20 feet.

Extra Fun-facts • The Ocotillo is often use as “fencing” because its spines stop people and animals from passing through.

• The Ocotillo is called many different names including Candlewood, Slimwood, Coachwhip, Vine Cactus, Flaming Sword and Jacob’s Staff.

Yoga for Hips & Shoulders Tuesday, April 28th 4:15pm-5:45pm In this workshop you will be guided through a yoga practice that encourages awareness of our body!

You will receive helpful techniques for the Hips & Shoulders that include: • Poses for Shoulders and Upper Back muscles to increase range of motion • Poses for hip flexors and core muscles to promote balance and create ease of motion •Breathing practices to enhance concentration and mindfulness in all physical activities •Mindful stretches to increase flexibility around the joints and reduce pain Member: $20.00 Limited to 10 participants.

ALL Levels Welcome! Register at the Front Desk by April 24th Barbara Sherman’s yoga teaching is greatly influenced by the holistic style of yoga taught at Kripalu in Massachusetts. In Tucson, Barbara received her yoga teacher certification (RYT 200) through Permelia Harden, senior teacher at Yoga Oasis. She continued her yoga training with Amy Wientraub, becoming a LifeForce Yoga® Practitioner, Level II in 2008. Barbara holds a Masters in Movement from Wesleyan University (‘83), which included studies in kinesiology (anatomy in motion) and dance.

Cardio Kickboxing Tuesday, April 21st 4:15pm-5:00pm A combination of aerobics, boxing, and martial arts.

This total-body workout can improve strength, aerobic fitness, flexibility, coordination, and balance. During a kickboxing workout, you can burn from 500 to 800 calories.

She combines her degrees in Exercise Nutrition and Chiropractic with an ACSM Personal Trainer certification. She specializes in training and program design for postural correction, stability and functional exercise as well as bone health for women. Additionally, she has years of experience and training in designing and implementing realistic cardiovascular programs to meet health, fitness and weight loss goals.
