Around the Club You Know That Feeling...

...that feeling when you walk up to your favorite hole and seem to ‘always’ play it well? It’s visually appealing, you know right where to hit it and could probably play it blind-folded. Well, that is hole(s) #7 and #8 on the South Course for Terri Camp!

She has three eagles on #7 and two on #8. Yes, that is two aces, this season and during major events (Member/Member and Member/Guest).

A One-Two Combo for -3

Bev Wellen re-enacts her three foot eagle here on #7 of the South Course. She enjoyed posting ‘under-par’ so much she went on to birdie the next hole! Enjoying her display of awesomeness was Sue cannon, Cheryl Brace & Roberta Bixby.

Honey Bee Facts Apis melliferia or Western honey bee, are very docile when they swarm, as they are not protecting any honey or the hive. In fact, you could stick your hand straight in to the swarm and the girls wouldn’t sting you (we do not recommend this!!); although they would get quite excited and crawl around on your arm in a frenzy. They are sticking close to the queen who is sending out a pheromone that attracts them to follow her where ever she goes. When the hive is overcrowded or there is a disease within the hive, they rear a “swarm queen” on the bottom of a brood frame, and once she is ready to leave, between 2,000 – 5,000 girls take off looking for a new suitable home.

The swarms usually stop off in “resting spots” no more than a couple hours at their temporary landing, but they don’t move until the scout bees come back with a suitable location. Occasionally they will stay overnight huddling the Queen to keep her warm.

There are many reasons bees swarm but usually it’s an overcrowding of their existing hive. Hopefully everyone leaves them alone as they are not harmful at all.

They will eventually move on once a suitable new location is found.

Hope this information helps your members better understand the western honey bee – without them, 60% of all our produce would be eliminated.

Invitational Champions - Gallery Member Wins Senior Flight Congratulations to Dr. Jon Valuck (left) and playing partner Kirk Wright for taking 1st Place in the Senior Division of The 2015 Gallery Invitational! The Invitational started in 1999 by Gallery Members who were very skilled Amateurs thriving on competition. They wanted to invite some of the country’s best Amateur Golfers to show off The Gallery while testing their games with a strong field of amateur golfers. It is a two-person team stroke event over the course of two days and this year Team Gallery Wins!

Jeremy DeFalco & Bryan Hoops set a tournament record and won the Open Division.

Bryan (Phx) has won the event more than once and Jeremy is from Tucson. This year we had 12 states represented.

Basketball Camp

June 1st-5th • 7:00-8:30am • Ages: 10-13 Every coach is looking for a player that can do the FAB 4.

Protect the ball; Play with quickness and intensity, play smart and finish the play with excellence!

Each session will consist of the following, but will be specialized for each group’s skill level: • Ball-handling • Individual Offense • Shooting • Defense • Team Offense- depending on the skill level • Games Jonathan Alexander has coached and directed basketball camps for 9 years with NBC Camps in several states and abroad. Jonathan uses the NBC Camps (largest and most popular overnight basketball program in the world) curriculum to teach the fundamentals of basketball.

Participants must register by Friday, May 29th.

Space is limited. Cost: $60.

Swim Clinics for Kids June 1st-11th Mondays & Thursdays 3:00-3:30pm – Ages 5-7 3:30- 4:00pm – Ages 8-12

Jen is an Arizona native that has been teaching swim for more than 15 years. She has taught private and semi-private lessons to both swimmers and non-swimmers of all ages. She has also coached a high school team here in Tucson for a dozen years. Some of the athletes she has worked with have gone on to compete at the college level.

When she is not instructing swimmers, she competes in both open water events as well as US Masters Swimming.

Participants must register by Friday, May 29th.
