LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC was originally workshopped with the help of a development grant from Loyola Marymount University.

It was first showcased at the New York International Fringe Festival, a presentation of The Present Company, and further workshopped at New Dramatists, premiering at the 78th Street Theatre Lab in a co-production with The Journey Company.

The play was subsequently produced Off-Broadway by Leonard Soloway, Chase Mishkin, and Steven M. Levy.

We’re back! And not a moment too soon.

Welcome!

We’re thrilled to be returning to doing what we do best: producing entertaining and thought-provoking live theatre that stirs the heart, challenges the mind, and elevates the soul. Now, more than ever, do we need light, hope and reprieve. We hope that our season offerings this coming year allow you, and by extension, our community, to relax, breathe, and to heal, and that our productions bring some levity to our personal and communal lives.

There have been several exciting changes since last we came together here in the theatre: a new online box-office system, assigned seating, and digital programs to name a few.

We are also navigating lingering restrictions that impact our productions in some very direct ways. We invite your patience, your grace, and your understanding as we move through the next season together, and even though things are a bit different, I invite you to allow yourself to be inspired, entertained and enlightened.

For our 31st season, we’ve programmed a series of plays we’ve always wanted to do, but for one reason or another, couldn’t find the right time to do them. Perhaps that’s a bit of a silver-lining given all the challenges we’ve

faced in the past year or so. I’m excited about all the stories we’ll be sharing with you – they may not be well-known stories, but they are the kind of stories we know you enjoy and we like to tell. They are stories that explore our human experience with a vision towards hope, reconciliation, and redemption. I invite you to check out our entire line-up at www. gallery7theatre.com.

This first story offering, Last Train to Nibroc, is a true heart warmer. It’s about two people who meet entirely by chance and are immediately smitten by the other, even if they’re not so willing to admit it at first. It’s a story about how two differing, but compatible personalities learn to communicate with one another and to appreciate each other’s strengths and forgive each other’s weaknesses.

It’s about the search for happiness and hope during a dark time, and it’s about recognizing and owning when one is wrong. It’s also about discovering, harnessing, and realizing potential. I hope this play makes you smile as much as it does me.

One last thing…I thank the Good Lord above for His help and protection and how He has sustained this organization over the decades.

I also thank the many donors, sponsors, volunteers and government entities who have supported us through ticket donations, financial gifts, investments and grants, and through prayer, time and moral support.

Good day to you all!

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Gallery 7 Theatre, I am pleased to welcome you back to the excitement and energy of live, in-person theatre.

We want to thank our patrons and supporters for your continued support of Gallery 7 Theatre during these challenging times.

Your ticket purchases, donations and sponsorships have enabled us to continue in our goal of bringing professional quality, thought provoking, and encouraging theatre productions to the lower Fraser valley area.

We believe that live theatre is a vital part of the cultural life of a community.

This is a story about a fresh start emerging out of a dark time in history. Last Train to Nibroc is set during the early years of WWII (19401943). Two young people find each other as their lives are turned upside down.

For us on the creative team, we too are emerging tentatively out of a dark time—a worldwide pandemic—and are finding reasons in the middle of it all to laugh and celebrate and find a fresh start with this play.

WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST & CREW

Charlene Crawford (Production Manager) – A BA graduate from the TWU theatre program, Charlene has been telling stories on the stage for almost two decades. She has served as the company’s production manager officially for 5 years but was a volunteer and contract artist for many years before that. Charlene has performed, produced and designed during her career and is sad to see that some post-secondary institutions no longer value the contributions of theatre to society. She is thankful that you have chosen to come out to support the magic of live theatre.

Dani Dejong (Costume Designer) - Dani is delighted to be back in the theatre, working on her favourite task: the period piece. With so many tragic stories coming from the WWII era, it has been delightful to finally use a soldier’s uniform to tell such a charming story. Past productions for Gallery 7 Theatre have included Little Women, Pride & Prejudice, The Importance of Being Earnest and Around the World in 80 Days.

Nelly Fargeon (Assistant Stage Manager) Nelly has been involved in theatre for quite a while now. She loves being backstage in any capacity. You may have ‘seen’ her handywork lately when she called the show for Gallery 7 Theatre’s virtual renditions of A Christmas Carol, Macbeth, and A New Normal. She also stage-managed Gallery 7 Theatre’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

She is excited to be returning to live theatre and can’t wait to share this experience again with you.

Ken Hildebrandt (Executive Artistic Director/Lighting Designer) Ken is the founding Executive/Artistic Director of Gallery 7 Theatre. In addition to managing the organization, Ken occasionally directs, acts or does lighting design. Select directing credits include Doubt, A Parable, Halo, The Giver, Lord of the Flies, Driving Miss Daisy, The Importance of Being Earnest and the Canadian amateur premier of Swallows and Amazons. Select acting projects include The Mousetrap, Macbeth and Tuesdays with Morrie. Lighting design credits include Hamlet (UFV), The Fantasticks, Mary’s Wedding, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Pride and Prejudice. When not doing theatre, Ken enjoys announcing at airshows, flying airplanes and relaxing at home with friends, movies and video games.

Laura Kehler (Assistant Stage Manager) - Laura is so very happy to have live theatre back again, as she is sure you all are. She can think of no better way to celebrate a very long and lonely time than to be surrounded with theatre family and friends. She is once again behind the scenes in her happy place and knows you will enjoy the show. Thanks for being here!

Jeff Kiers (Set Designer) - Jeff graduated from Redeemer University with a double major in Theatre Arts and Mathematics. He spent the following 25 years teaching math and drama in local Christian high schools. Jeff has produced and directed 28 shows. Highlights include Goodrich’s The Diary of Anne Frank, Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle. This is the third set Jeff has designed for Gallery 7 Theatre. Most recently, he designed the mystical set for Midsummer (2019). It is his hope that this set design will guide you as you move through the different locations created by the story.

Dianna Lewis (Props Manager) - Dianna has over 30 years of experience as a professional photographer and enjoys contributing to Gallery 7 Theatre’s productions with headshots and images of the productions. She has 20+ years of experience in the performing arts and while she has worked in every area of a production, much of her focus has been on prop design and she takes pride in finding or building detailed props.

Notable works have been the magic rose from Beauty and the Beast and the wild boar from Lord of the Flies. Other projects include Pacific Theatre’s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and art directing a couple projects for Jenkinson and Goode Productions.

Curtis Maciborski (Raleigh) - Last Train to Nibroc will be Curtis’s second production with Gallery 7 Theatre. He is excited to be a part of Gallery 7 Theatre’s first live production in almost 2 years.

He has had lots of fun getting to know his character, Raleigh, and even more fun working with his cast mate and director, both of which he previously worked with in Gallery 7 Theatre’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream back in 2019. He hopes everyone enjoys the show, and hopes to join Gallery 7 Theatre for more shows in the future.

Josh Osborne (Sound Desinger) - Josh is a Vancouver-based actor and musician and is excited to be making his sound designing debut at Gallery 7 Theatre. Josh has always had a passion for anything to do with sound, playing classical piano from a young age and studying musical composition at VCC. As a life-long lover of both noise and pretending, Josh is jumping at the chance to combine them and help immerse you in the vibrant world of this beautiful show.

Andrew Potts (Construction Manager) - Andrew has built sets for Gallery 7 Theatre for several seasons. He enjoys the break from the routine of his handyman business to focus on these theatre construction projects. He thanks the volunteers who helped cut, screw, and pre-paint large swaths of wood! Enjoy the show!

Nicola Shannon (Director) Nicola is very grateful to be back at the theatre. She is a graduate of the Trinity Western University theatre program and recently completed a directing apprenticeship at Pacific Theatre. She is also an acting instructor at Bez Arts Hub. Other directing credits include Jewel (TIC), Mary’s Wedding (Stone’s Throw), and Pride and Prejudice (G7).

You may have seen her on stage recently in Gallery7 Theatre’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Puck) or Doubt (Sister James).

Brittany Suderman (Stage Manager) - After catching the stage bug in college, Brittany has been involved with Gallery 7 Theatre in various roles for the last 8 years. She has been involved in several Gallery 7 Theatre shows including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Fiddler on the Roof, Halo and A New Normal. When not involved in theatre, she enjoys working as an administrator at her church, creating spreadsheets and organizing events. Brittany is thankful for another opportunity in be in a theatre and learn alongside these talented actors, crew, designers, and director.

Cassie Unger (May) - Cassie holds a Bachelors of Creative Arts and Drama from New Hope Christian College in Eugene, Oregon and has performed, taught, and sung with groups across the U.S. She was most recently seen as Marjorie in Jewel with Theatre in the Country and as Myra Bennet in Tempting Providence with Gallery 7 Theatre. Other favourite roles include Clea (A Black Comedy), Izzy (Rabbit Hole), and Margot (Legally Blonde). She would like to dedicate this performance to the members of the audience: “Thank you for helping to keep live theatre alive.”
