oran Rakic belongs to the generation of ar tists that entered the scene at the end of the 19 8 0s . He displayed his ar twork in solo exhibitions . The period in which he established himself as a young ar tist was marked by appearance of a new painting which is characterised by the fact that it entirely disregards the old division into presentative (non-figurative) and representative (figurative) ; in fact , it means that ar tists are completely free to express some of their personal my thologies and thoughts and communicate some of the highly subjectivized content either through pure coloristic

oran Rakić pripada generaciji umetnika koja stupa na scenu krajem osamdesetih godina prošlog veka, predstavljajući se samostalnim izlaganjem. Period u kome stasava kao mladi autor, obeležila je pojava nove slike. Karakteristika ovog slikarstva je i ta da ono potpuno zanemaruje staru podelu na prezentativno (nefigurativno) i reprezentativno (figurativno); reč je, zapravo o tome da umetnici potpuno slobodno, prema trenutnom raspoloženju, ne uzimajući u obzir bilo kakvo stilsko ili formalno ograničenje, bilo čistim kolorističkim odnosima bilo kroz semirealističke elemente, iskažu ponešto iz ličnih mitologija i shvatanja, 5
relations or semirealistic elements ,, in accordance with their current mood and without taking any stylistic or formal limitations into account . As a true “child of his time” , Goran Rakic ar ticulates the language of ar t with responsibility towards the rich heritage in the field of painting , yet aware that nothing is implied in ar t , but rather new and original solutions are constantly being sought. The key features of Rakic’s work are expressiveness , symbolic use of colour and signs that he personally invented , a kind of his own ar tistic trademark that he has gradually developed through dif ferent phases and media . Although Rakic’s oeuvre consists mainly of abstract large-format paintings , the figure has not completely disappeared from his work . Abstract painting strives for ideological and formal autonomy and suits an ar tist with a propensity for freedom and unfetteredness . Both in work and in his mind , Rakic does not settle for closed-form and definite solutions . The colour, with which he defines his personal and meaningful narrative, is also an impor tant building material he uses to shape the area of the painting in the way a builder makes a building. Expressiveness is the result of a visual and emotional experience of the reality in the witty and observant mind of the ar tist. It is not an unreasonable and uncontrollable torrent of impulses , but a deliberately balanced composition of thoughts , colours and lines , where ever y stroke has its place and where ever y thing is arranged in per fect harmony. With this exhibition, Rakic presents to the Belgrade audience the latest series of paintings in which he 6
da saopšte ponešto od izrazito subjektivizovanih sadržaja. Kao istinsko „dete svog vremena“ , Goran Rakić artikuliše likovni jezik sa odgovornošću prema bogatom nasleđu u oblasti slikarstva, svestan istovremeno da se u umetnosti ništa ne podrazumeva već se neprekidno traga za novim i originalnim rešenjima. Ključne osobenosti Rakićevog izraza su ekspresivnost, simboličko korišćenje boja i znaci koji su umetnikov lični izum, svojevrstan likovni trejdmark koje on postepeno razvija kroz različite faze i medije. Iako njegov opus pretežno čine apstraktne slike velikih formata, figura nije sasvim iščezla iz Rakićevog stvaralaštva. Slikarstvo apstrakcije teži ideološkoj i formalnoj autonomiji, i pristaje autoru koji je sklon slobodi i nesputanosti. Kako u potezu tako i u mišljenju, Rakić ne podilazi rešenjima koja su zatvorena i konačna. Kolorit kojim definiše ličan i sadržajan narativ, istovremeno je i značajan gradivni materijal kojim oblikuje polje slike kao što neimar konstruiše građevinu. Ekpresivnost je posledica vizuelnog i emotivnog doživljaja stvarnosti u duhovitom i pronicljivom umu autora. To nije ona nerazumna i neukrotiva bujica nagona, već veoma znalački izbalansirana kompozicija sačinjena od misli, boja i linija, gde svaki potez ima svoje mesto, sve je postavljeno sa merom koja odiše harmonijom. Ovom izložbom Rakić se predstavlja beogradskoj publici najnovijom serijom slika u kojoj sintetiše svoja dosadašnja iskustva – od crteža, monohromije, kolorita. Važnu odrednicu u razumevanju samog umetnikovog postupka čine nazivi radova (Dvoje, Kišni dan, Kola doktora Kostića, Nagoveštaj Vetra...). Čini mi se da su postavljeni kao vezivo pre nego fasada,

The ar twork titles play a major role in understanding the ar tist ’s work ( Two of Them, Rainy Day, Dr. Kostic’s Car of, A Hint of Wind ...). The titles seem to have been placed as a kind of a “binder ” rather than a “ façade” , giving the ar tist time to contemplate on and complete the nex t stroke. Thoughts , both intuitive and spiritual , woven into the entire Rakic’s ar twork , arise from the ver y connection between the man and the nature, the creator and the work .

Posmatrač je ovde i putnik i učenik, a ne samo puki konzument. Pred ovim velikim formatima, on se prepušta i spoznaje, najpre delo pred kojim stoji a onda i samog sebe. Alen Badiju navodi da je umetnost nelična proizvodnja istine koja se obraća svima. Rakićeve slike prožete su humanizmom i pozivaju na interakciju, otkrivajući još mnoge vrline ovog sjajnog umetnika
Here, the obser ver is both a traveller and a student , Beograd, maj 2022. not just a mere consumer. Standing , over whelmed , in front of these large-format paintings , you come to comprehend first the work of ar t and then yourself. Alain Badiou says that ar t is the impersonal production of a truth that is addressed to ever yone.
