The Eternal Recurrence This body of work entitled The Eternal Recurrence, explores the interaction between colour, light and materials in which time, space and emotions intersect. Growing up between Europe and the United States gave me a dual perspective regarding tradition in painting and aesthetics. Time past and time future are united in a perpetual possibility of change. The method that primarily characterises my work is collage. It is not only about the use of different materials, but also about the combination of different techniques that go back to ancient Egypt. By deconstructing methods of representation, I reformulate a new space. I am interested in the dialectic between traditional representation and the reconfiguration of these elements. I spend a lot of time in Nature, where the only constant is change. These changes inform my work. The combination of various materials—old fabrics, 24K gold leaf, texts from discarded books, beeswax, oil, pigments, etc.—converge and transmute. The history deposited in these recycled articles gives them an index, a sentimental value and another dimension. We live in a smooth and seamless digital era where tactile, material objects have gained meaning in contrast to the virtual reflective flat screens we rely on. Collage is mutable and allows the placement and choice of colours and materials to absorb emotional input. It is made with both hands and loaded with real experiences, past and present. I believe in the continuity of historical and intercultural exchanges as a form of communication and association. Collage is not about translating a world that already exists, but about an entrance into a different universe: a timeless, tactile world of sensation and overlapping memory. The spatio - temporal confrontation is about the transience of tangible reality and beauty we can hold onto both visually and materially.
