Colors of the Sky WHAT MAKES KATHY UNIQUE? Through her paintings, Kathy captures the transformational qualities of light from the simple atmosphere of her open-air oceanside studio. Her paintings embody particular moments in time, capturing the vastness and boundless diversity in nature, so much so that we lose ourselves in their immense beauty. Kathy works mainly in oil, and incorporates nature allowing the elements to play a part in her paintings—the fresh ocean air leaves ripples on fluid swaths of paint, and crushed seashells and sand are assimilated onto the canvas, adding texture and depth into her scenery. New to 2018, her paintings often are embellished with 24carat gold-leaf capturing light in a way that has to be experienced and enjoyed first-hand.

Inspired by Turner’s atmospheric and poignant paintings, Kathy focuses the majority of her canvas to capturing the skies. Nevertheless, critics have observed that the paintings themselves impart the aroma of the earth and contain a sensual quality that grounds them from fading into pure ethereality. Kathy’s experience growing up on a flower farm in Michigan has influenced these elements of her painting. The landscapes included within her works return the viewer to a time when humans related on a more fundamental level with nature and speak to the present day’s need for increased environmental awareness.

Kathy’s majestic paintings have earned her national recognition and are part of prestigious, international private collections. Her works have been acclaimed in The New York Times and in various museums, including the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, Andrews Museum in Andrews, NC, and the Long Island Museum.

Kathy is archived in the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C., and she is honored with inclusion within Who’s Who in American Art.
