Mint a fáradt vándor Kailas szent hegyét, mint Mekkában az üvöltõ zarándok a nagy fekete márványtömböt, mint az utolsó faluban óbégató vasárnapi körmenet, igen-igen, az ember kötõdik a körhöz, hiszen körbejárja a fontos dolgokat. Talán azért is teszi, mert az élete is kör: a NEM-bõl érünk az IGEN-be, és térünk vissza a NAGY NEM-be, de akkor már az élet adta stigmákkal. Talán éppen ezért... a lélek legmélyén nyugvó kör késztette az alkotót is, hogy Õ is körbejárja azt, ami fontos, ebben az esetben azt, ami már nem jár, de ami (aki?) egykor jött, született és ment, meghalt, aztán maradt... Igaz, formalinban! Nos, Barta Zsolt Péter az emberi testet járja szépen körbe... Hogyan? Mirõl is van itt szó? Az élõ halottat mutat az élõknek? Akkor ez lenne a kör négyszögesítése? A fából vaskarika (mellékesen kör az is), az élõ tetszelgése az örök témában?

Miért járja körbe-körbe az egyik a másik (mellesleg halott) ember a koponyát, miért tesz újabb és újabb kört a cranium körül, mit akar az os frontale-tõl, a varratoktól, a Foramen Magnumba meg minek kukucskál bele? Mire jó ez az egész? Oly szép lehetne az este vacsora után: kanapé, langyos spricci-cola a gyereknek, apának buta-sör, újság, közben ütõdött körbe-körbe sorozat a tévében... Mit akar ezekkel a képekkel? Mit akar a halotakkal? Miért nem fényképezi az élõket? Miért kell minden nagy találmánynak – így a fényképezésnek is – hátrányaival szembesülnünk? Példák? Telefon? Telefonszámla! CD? CD-állvány, mely mindig felborul..., antibébi tabletta, mely persze csõdöt mond..., de félre a viccel, halottról jót vagy semmit, tartja a közmondás, nos, Barta Zsolt Péter körbe-körbe jár, nem tud másképpen, csak így létezni a NAGY misztériummal. A halállal? Igen, egyre csak jár-jár, körbe-körbe, itt, nekünk..., élõknek..., pl. a fényképezés is oly szép lehetne, ha nem léteznének ilyen felvételek, ha mondjuk csak olyanok születnének, mint: naplemente, gyerek a homokozóban, szerelmünk a sátor elõtt..., na, mit akar ez az ember a koponyákkal? Mit akar tõlünk?

Hiszen tudjuk: a lefényképezett, az meghalt. Azt is tudjuk: minden ember halandó. Tudjuk: mi is emberek vagyunk. Ergo..., nos, ez az egész halál nem új dolog! Azaz: a tudás körében állunk De az ilyen fényképész olyan, akár az óra, körbe jár, közben az idõ rohan, felettünk is ugyebár, igen, oly szép lehetett volna ez az este..., szóval? Mit akar ez az ember? Hogy gondolkodjunk el, amikor jön és halált mutogatja? Körbe? Feketén-fehéren! De miért is mondjuk elõre a feketét? Hopp, ez volna az elsõ gondolat? Nos, ezernyi kérdés vár még megoldásra. Szóval: elénk teszi a KÖRT! A nagy kört! Mi pedig körbeálljuk, mert valamiképpen csak vonzódunk a körhöz. A kör bennünk van! Miért is? Mert ezek a képek a halálról, nos, ezek a mûvek elveszik a félelmet. A félelmemet. Egy idõre tudok vigyorogni azon, hogy majd egyszer meghalok. De a furcsa az, hogy miközben nézem a képeket, pontosan érzem: telik az idõm...

The dervish twirls in circles, feverish pilgrims parade around the Ka’aba at Mecca, and lamenting villagers process round the square. Human beings have always been attracted to circles, after all we all warily circle around the important things in our lives... Life itself is a circle, from nothing to something and back to nothing again, but this time with the stigmatas of life attached. It is the circle which prompt artist to circle what is important and, in this case, to encircle that which does not exist but which (who) came, was born and went, died and still remains... but preserved in formalin this time around! So Zsolt-Péter Barta circles around the human body... How? What is this all about? To reveal the living dead to the living? Is this the squaring of the circle ? A silk purse out of a sow’s ear, the conceit of the artist dealing in eternal themes?

Why does he circle round and round another person’s (and a dead one at that) skull, why circle around the cranium, what does he want from the frontal lobes, why does he want to peer into the Foramen Magnum? What is the point of all this? Life would be so nice without all this, sittings cosy after supper on sofa, warm Coca-Cola for the children, beer for dad, complete with a newspaper and a rubbishy circuitous series on television... What does he want with these pictures? What does he want with the dead? Why doesn’t he photograph the living? Why must we face the disadvantages of all great inventions, including photography? Telephone? Telephones means telephone bill. CD? CD stands always fall over. Contraceptive pills miscarry... But enough jokes, we mustn’t speak ill of the dead. Zsolt-Péter Barta circles around, he can not do otherwise, he circles that great mystery, death. He goes around and around, here for us, the living...

Photography would be wonderful, if it wasn’t for Barta’s pictures, if there were merely photos of sunsets, children playing in sand-spits, lovers. So what does he want with skulls? What does he want from us?

We know that the photographed person is dead, we also know that we are all mortal, we know that we are human beings Ergo... so death is nothing new. But a photographer, like a clock, goes round and round, time flies by, the ravages of time affect us all, yes our cosy evening could have been so nice..., so what?

What does this man want? What sould we think when he goes and shows us death? In the round? In black and white! Why do we always say black first? Was this my first thought? There are just so many questions to answer. In other words: he animates the circle!

That great circle! While we stand around, somehow attracted to the circle. The circle is within us! Why? Because these pictures are about death, yet they alleviate fear. My fear. For a short while I can laugh at the fact that, I will also die. But it is strange that as I look at the pictures I also feel: my time is flying past...

L’homme est attaché au cerle puisqu’ il contourne les choses importantes tel l’errant fatigué au mont sacré de Kailas, comme le pelerin oriant sur le grand bloc de marbre noir á la Mecque ou les gens se lamentant á la procession du Dimanche du dernier village. On fait peut-eˆtré ainsi parce que la vie est en elle meˆme un cercle à partir du non on arrive jusqu’au oui et on retourne au grand non, mais cette fois-ci on arrive avec les stigmates que la vie nous a donnés. C’est peut-eˆtre cela... le cercle se reposant au fond de l’âme qui a aussi stimulé le créateur pour contourner ce qui est important, dans le cas ici, celui qui ne marche plus mais qui est arrivé jadis, celui qui est né, est partir, est mort et puis est resté... il est vrai dans le formol! Et bien Zsolt-Péter Barta contourne joliement le corps humain... Mais comment? De quoi s’agit-il en effet? Celui qui vit montre-t-il un mort aux vivants? Serait-ce cela la quadrature du cercle? Un non-sens, la complaisance du vivant par rapport à un thème éternel?

Pourquoi tourne-t-il autour des cranes et des êtres morts, pourquoi refait-il des cercles autour du cranium, que veut-il avec l’os frontal, avec les sutures pouquoi guigne-t-il au Foramen Magnum? A quoi tout cela sert? La soirée pourrait être si belle aprés le diner: un canapé, un coca tiède à l’enfant, une bière au papa, un journal, entre-temps une série imbécile sans fin à la télé... Que veut avec ces images?

Que veut-il avec les morts? Pourquoi ne photographie-t-il pas les vivants? Pouquoi devons nous envisager les désavantages de chaque grande invention, présentement de la photographie? Des exemles? Téléphone? Note de Téléphone! CD? Etagères de CD qui toujours se renverse, le pilulles de contraception qui bien sur échouent... mais sérieusement, comme dit le proverbe – d’un mort on dit du bien ou rien – et bien Zsolt-Péter Barta tourne et tourne, ilne peut pas exister autrement qu’ ainsi, avec le Grand Mystére. Avec la mort? Oui, Barta continue à foncer et foncer, tourner et tourner ici, pour nous, les vivants... par exemple la photographie pourrait être si belle, si les images comme celles de Zsolt-Péter Barta n’existaient pas, si on ne faisait que des photos comme le coucher du soleil, l’enfant au bac à sable, notre amour devant la tente... alors que veut cet homme-lá avec les cranes? Que veut-il de nous?

Puirque nous le savons: celui qui est sur la photo est mort. Nous le savons aussi: chaque eˆtre humain est mortel. Nous le savons: nous sommes des eˆtres humains aussi. Ergo... et bien, cette histoire de mourir, ce n’est pas nouveau! C’est-à-dire nous sommes au cercle de la connaissance.

Mais un tel photographe est comme une horloge, il tourne autour du temps qui s’envole... oui, on vielli aussi, cette soirée aurait pu eˆtre si belle... alors? Que veut cet homme-là? Que l’on refléchiesse quand il arrive pour nous montrer la mort? Autour? Noir et blanc! Mais pourquoi dit-on déjà le noir d’abord? Est-ce que cela serait la première idée? Et bien, il y à encore á répondré à des milliers de questions. Bref Zsolt-Péter Barta met le CERCLE devant nous! Le Grand Cercle! Et on se met autour parce que d’une certaine manière on est attiré par le cercle. Le cercle est en nous! Pourquoi? Parce que ces images sur la mort, et bien ce oeuvres nous enlèvent notre peur de la mort. Ma peur. Pendant quelque temps je peux ricaner en pensant au fait que je vais mourir. Mais ce qui est étrange c’est que lorsque je regarde ces images, je sens clairement que mon temps passe....
