Once a term I will provide an extended address in the newsletter, and on which I am very happy to receive feedback. I would like to share with you some key points from my Principal’s address to the Galen Catholic College community at the Opening Liturgy on Wednesday morning. Jesus gave us a very powerful commandment, that in today’s world holds more importance than ever before, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” I am often drawn to this when I consider how do I lead this community. Jesus clearly set us an example where he happily worked and supported those on the margins. Jesus sets a standard which provides us with an example of how to interact with others inside and outside of the Galen Catholic College community. Last Friday, at our swimming sports, I was challenged by local youths as they attempted to enter the back gate of the swimming sports. The youths argued with me as I attempted to assist them to leave the Aquatic Centre. It was at this moment that a group of male students from Galen Catholic College decided that they would stand next to me and simply point to the back gate. This simple, non-confrontational gesture, was enough to convince the youths to leave. - Continued following page
