Armenia is a democratic country in the South Caucasus.
While the President is the head of the state, the Prime Minister holds extended executive power as the head of the Government. Government serves as the supreme body of the executive power.
Despite being landlocked, Armenia is actively involved in both regional and international integration processes.
The country is a member of more than 40 international organizations, including the United Nations (UN), the Council of Europe, the World Trade Organization (WTO), World Customs Organization (WCO), etc.
Armenia has been traditionally perceived in the international community as having conducted a balanced foreign policy.
It is the only Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member-state who signed Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement with the EU.
Armenia benefits from the EU’s Special Incentive Arrangement for Sustainable Development and Good Governance (GSP+), in addition to holding a GSP beneficiary status with Canada, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States.
This anticipates Armenia’s access to these markets at 0% or reduced tariff rates.
Armenia is the only CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) member-state that has provided troops for the NATO-led missions, including in Afghanistan.
Through becoming a member-state of the Eurasian Economic Union, Armenia’s domestic market of 3 million people transformed into a shared market of 170 million. Any company from the EEU member-states can take advantage of the GSP+ trade regime by opening its branches in Armenia.
Armenia has free trade agreements with most of CIS memeber states, potentially opening up free access to about 250 million consumers. According to the World Bank Group, Armenia ranks as 10th easiest country to start a business. Armenia is internationally considered as one of the safest countries in the world.
The year-round sun climate, the relatively cheap cost of living, along with highquality human capital and good educational and technological base make the country attractive for visitors and investors.
Due to the effective monetary policy, among other reasons, Armenian
dram ( AMD ) has traditionally remained stable relative to the USD.
