REWIND the Classics Red Rocks Homecoming David Phelps: “Russ Taff is a dear friend and we have laughed so much over the years at each other’s expense.

Often when I walk off stage hoping I did well, he’ll say as if he’s pitying me, “Were you having trouble hearing tonight?” Or he’ll cheer, “Real average, Dave!”

The Red Rocks, CO, taping was his first video as a member of the Gaither Vocal Band. We were singing ‘It Is Finished’ that night; and legendary multiple GRAMMY® Award winner Russ Taff was a little nervous. He turned to me and whispered, ‘Remind me where to come in.’

I kind of thought he was joking and, at the same time, it made me a little nervous. Bill was to sing the first two verses back to back. The third verse belonged to Russ. After Bill’s first verse Russ nervously looked at me and without thinking I said, ‘Now, Russ! Now!’ Not stopping to blink, he jumped on the third verse, ‘The earth shakes…’ singing it right over Bill’s second verse!
