HELLO FROM GREENACRES A Century of Growth… and the Best Is Yet to Come Dear Residents, I am excited to share the 2026 edition of our City Link publication. This year is especially significant as we celebrate Greenacres’ Centennial - a century of growth in our community, accomplishments, and spirit. We are proud to introduce our new brand identity and tagline: Greenacres, grows with you. This year also brings exciting developments, including the soon-to-be-completed Youth Center, reflecting how far we have grown in 100 years. Greenacres offers a wide range of services, recreational opportunities, and events for all ages. The City of Greenacres offers a variety of rental options, including a newly renovated banquet hall, multipurpose rooms, athletic fields, and pavilions at Samuel J. Ferreri Community Park, Freedom Park, and Ira Van Bullock Park. These spaces are perfect for meetings, birthdays, and special events, with indoor rentals including tables and chairs, and pavilions featuring amenities such as grills, playgrounds, and restrooms. Alcohol is permitted only in the banquet hall with PBSO supervision and a licensed, insured bartender. GREENACRES FIRE RESCUE A Century of Service: Protecting Our Community for Generations to Come Greenacres Fire Rescue is a dedicated full-service fire department providing fire suppression, rescue, and advanced life support, along with fire prevention, inspections, and plan reviews. It serves over 47,000 residents across Greenacres and Atlantis, plus daily visitors and commuters.
Enhancing Fire Rescue Staffing through SAFER Grant In 2025, Greenacres Fire Rescue was awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant, which provides funding to help fire departments increase or maintain the number of trained firefighters in their communities. With this grant, Greenacres Fire Rescue will enhance its capabilities and improve staffing and operational standards by adding six new members to the team.
Mock DUI Crash Demonstration In April 2025, Greenacres Fire Rescue participated in a Mock DUI Crash Demonstration at John I. Leonard High School. Partnering with the Safety for Life Foundation, PBSO, School District staff, and the Health Care District, the event used student actors to deliver a powerful message about the real-life consequences of impaired driving and the importance of prevention.
Flashover Training In May 2025, Greenacres Fire Rescue completed flashover training at the Palm Beach State College Fire Academy. This live-fire exercise simulated the extreme conditions of a flashover, when all materials in a room ignite at once, exceeding 1,200°F, to help firefighters recognize warning signs, use thermal imaging, and respond safely to rapid fire transitions. The training enhanced firefighter safety, readiness, and effectiveness in protecting the community during real emergencies. 16

Meet the Chief
Greenacres’ First Fire Department
On July 23, Greenacres Fire Rescue held a Change of Command Ceremony, marking a transition in leadership. Fire Chief Brian Fuller passed command to incoming Fire Chief Phillip Konz. We thanked Chief Fuller for his four years of service and wished him well in retirement. Chief Konz, with over 21 years at Greenacres Fire Rescue, including four as Assistant Chief, brings experience and commitment to guide the department into the future.
NFR Gold Helmet In August 2025, Greenacres Fire Rescue received the NFR Gold Helmet, becoming the first department in Palm Beach County and the second in Florida to earn this distinction. The award recognizes departments with 50% or more members enrolled in the CDC’s National Firefighter Registry for Cancer, highlighting their commitment to advancing research on cancer risks among firefighters and promoting firefighter health and safety.
Residential Lock Box Program Did You Know? The Roper Lock Box Program provides first responders with quick, damage-free access to your home during emergencies. It’s especially helpful for seniors, individuals with medical needs, and seasonal residents. Lock boxes cost $40.50 plus shipping and can be ordered through Roper Lock. Once purchased, residents can schedule an installation appointment with Greenacres Fire Rescue. For more information, call (561) 642-2129.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS Celebrating 100 Years, Investing in Greenacres’ Next Century The City is excited to share that construction is well underway on the new two-story, 18,400 sq. ft. Youth Center. Designed by Song + Associates, Inc. and built by Sisca Construction Services, LLC, this state-of-the-art facility will expand capacity by nearly 50% to serve up to 200 students. It will feature improved learning spaces, enhanced security, upgraded administrative and clinic areas, and more efficient drop-off and pick-up operations. Following a groundbreaking ceremony on October 23, 2024, construction, currently about 70% complete, is on track for completion by February 2026.

New Municipal Operations Center The City is developing a 35,500-square-foot, two-story Municipal Operations Center (MOC) through a Progressive Design-Build process. Selected in June 2025, Kaufman Lynn and Song + Associates are leading design development for this state-of-the-art, Category 5 hurricane-rated facility. The building will house an Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Fire Rescue headquarters, Public Works and IT offices, training and multipurpose rooms, and vehicle maintenance bays. Construction is expected to begin by mid-2026 and finish by the end of 2027, enhancing the City’s ability to respond to emergencies in coordination with Palm Beach County.
Roadway Overlay The City resurfaced and re-striped Foxtail Drive, north and south of Purdy Lane, and plan to refurbish the adjacent walking path to enhance safety and appearance.
Septic to Sewer The Greenacres Original Section Septic to Sewer Project is a multimilliondollar effort to replace septic systems with a sewer system between 10th Ave. North and Lake Worth Road, and Jackson Ave. East to Fleming Ave. West. Phase 1 North finished in May 2024, Phase 2 North was completed in February 2025, and Phase 3 North, started in mid-September with a new lift station and sewer work along Perry Ave., is expected to finish by mid2026. PBC Water Utilities will manage the system, and all residents and businesses must connect within a set timeframe. greenacresfl.gov

PBSO DISTRICT 16 District 16, located at 2995 S. Jog Road in Greenacres, serves approximately 45,000 residents across 6.6 square miles. The district is staffed by 50 sworn law enforcement officers and 5 civilian personnel, including 1 captain, 1 lieutenant, 9 sergeants, 3 detectives, 36 deputies and support staff. Handling more than 20,000 calls for service each year, District 16 is committed to community policing and problem-solving, working closely with residents, businesses and government partners to address crime and enhance quality of life citywide.
Girls Who Code Girls Who Code, in collaboration with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office District 16, provides young women with opportunities to explore computer science while building leadership and problem-solving skills. Through hands-on activities, mentorship and technology-focused workshops, participants learn coding fundamentals and gain exposure to real-world public safety applications at Greenacres Elementary. This partnership supports the mission of empowering future female leaders in technology while strengthening community engagement and positive youth development. The program runs for one school year, meeting once a week.
Harmony in the Streets Summer Camp The weeklong camp features fun, educational activities that help build positive connections between youth and law enforcement officers. The program concludes with a special graduation ceremony celebrating all participants.

YOUTH PROGRAMS Where Kids Grow and Community Thrives The City’s Youth Programs Department offers year-round Out of School and Camp Programs for students from kindergarten to high school across Palm Beach County. These programs are licensed by the Palm Beach County Health Department and nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA). Funding is accepted from the Early Learning Coalition (ELC), but please note that parents are responsible for the daily fee as determined on the ELC Authorization Form, which is based on household income and may exceed the minimum listed on the Youth Programs Fee Sheet. Registration forms must be requested and completed electronically in advance before children can be enrolled.
