City Highlights 2 / Ci ty l ink

City Entryway Signs: Construction of new City entryway signs will be coming soon, replacing the old existing signs which show much wear and tear. The new signs will include new City branding adding to the aesthetics of Greenacres.

Dillman Trail: Construction of a twelve-foot wide multi-use pathway from Forest Hill Boulevard to Dillman Road, which will connect three (3) schools, a county park, and a city park for residential pedestrian traffic.

FUTURE VISION G

reenacres is surely the Place to Be! The City recently engaged in a strategic action planning and visioning process to identify our strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to develop a roadmap in support of our mission to be a community where people want to live, learn, work and play. Over the last three (3) years the City has updated policies and procedures, and codes. We are currently in the process of an update to the City’s Comprehensive Plan to provide opportunities for development and redevelopment, new and improved amenities, affordable housing, open space, and quality education opportunities. Whether it was through the voter approved one-penny surtax, or the CARES funds and the American Rescue Plan dollars allocated to the City because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City is committed to being good stewards of those dollars by providing for projects that will improve our residents and visitors’ quality of life. We have many exciting projects to look forward to in the coming years. We plan to connect access points from walkers to drivers to bikers, and convert the septic systems in our Original Section to sewer systems to improve our environment and increase property values. Also, investing in our young people is a priority and many decisions made are done so with our young population in mind. The City has a gold seal, nationally accredited after-school, and summer programs. We have found that while there are many after school and summer camp programs for children from kindergarten to 12 years old, what happens to children once they reach 12? They’re not old enough to work and they have aged out of those camp programs. The City is making this very important demographic a priority and continue to support them by providing continued after school and summer camp opportunities through high school. The City is planning to build a new Youth Programs building to accommodate our growing numbers and further our mission in support of our youth. Some of the most affordable housing within Palm Beach County has always been in Greenacres. Today, demand is surely exceeding inventory. Over the next two (2) years, over 200 new homes will be built in the City. However, as we are 97% built out, we are looking at areas that can be redeveloped to provide for more housing. We are trying to do what we can to maintain the affordability of our community while offering services and amenities to support the community. Over the last five (5) years we have seen so many changes in our City, but we know there is still much to be accomplished. From an infrastructure perspective, we’ve been able to spend our dollars wisely and invest in amenities and projects that improve the quality of life for our residents. We’ve finally embarked on public art in the City, which has been well received and it’s a great representation of what we are as a community. When Lawrence Carter Swain founded the City of Greenacres almost 96 years ago, it was his hope to develop a community that was a good place for people to live. It is our hope that in the work we’ve done and how we’re moving forward, that Greenacres will not only be a good place to live, but also a Great Place to Live, Learn, Work and Play.

Forest Hill Median Upgrades: Irrigation and landscape enhancements to the medians on Forest Hill Boulevard, to rejuvenate the existing plantings and reduce maintenance expenses.

Municipal Complex Upgrades: Repainting and aesthetic improvements to Greenacres City Hall. Addition of a new playground and new quarter mile extension to the existing walk/bike path, providing a safe walking area for residents, and allowing accessibility to the front and back of City Hall, leading to the lake area.

Swain Boulevard - Complete Streets: Septic to Sewer Conversion - construction of sanitary sewer service for eighty-six properties along Swain Boulevard from Lake Worth Road to 10th Avenue North, and development of complete streets to provide sidewalks, bicycle lanes, curb extensions, streetscape and landscape treatments. Please be considerate of your neighbors and your pets!

A SERIES OF COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS AT GREENACRES COMMUNITY CENTER BANQUET HALL - LOCATED AT 501 SWAIN BOULEVARD, GREENACRES

Let’s Talk The Greenacres Community Center is continuing to host a series of monthly Community Conversations covering many topics that may affect our daily lives.

It’s always fun to go outside with your pet for some exercise and fresh air especially at any one of our City parks or pathways. However, City Code requires that,

No person owning or having control, custody or possession of an animal shall permit or suffer such animal to run at large or go or be upon the public streets, sidewalks or other public places within the City unless the animal is under the immediate custody of a person capable of controlling the animal and in the case of a dog is on a leash. Please be courteous of those around you, keep your pet leashed for the well being of other people and animals that may be in the general area.

The 1.5 hour sessions are free and you can join us in person at the Greenacres Banquet Hall located at 501 Swain Boulevard, Greenacres, and Q & A time will also be included. Each session is open to a multi-age audience and filled with useful information. Additional resources will also be made available. Listed are some of the upcoming topics that will be discussed. Register online or call our Community and Recreation Services Department at 561-642-2090. High School and Middle School students can earn three (3) Community Service hours for attending the 1.5 hour in-person sessions. Visit our website for future upcoming dates and topics.

Do Not Feed the Wildlife Human activities can attract certain wildlife species looking for an easy meal or shelter. Unfortunately, wildlife that are fed by humans can become aggressive and harass and/or lose their fear of people. When improper interaction with humans occur, such as feeding or providing shelter, the animal(s) can present a threat to public safety by causing property damage and becoming a nuisance to the community; not to mention their droppings are left1on park benches, gazebos and playgrounds. Human food is not healthy for wild animals as they have specialized diets and hand feeding can also result in the transfer of illnesses. To maintain a safe community for everyone, please DO NOT FEED THE WILDLIFE.
