GABR I ELA AMBRIZ
2024 selected works

I’m a passionate and thoughtful person that has such a deep interest in all things design. I believe design should inspire joy, foster memories, and positively impact the community. I believe that as designers we play the crucial role of listening and providing for our community’s current and future needs. Design is executed best when it is done collaboratively and with a forward thinking mindset.
When I design, I strive to be as intentional as possible in every project. In the design process, I find that I excel in schematic and design development phases, as well as being a strong presentation curator. What I love most about designing, is having the opportunity to be a creative whilst thinking practically.
As an emerging professional in the design industry, I know there is a world full of knowledge that I can only gain through experience, I plan to grow and expand my skill set and find which area in design I can make the biggest impact in.

CENTRA LIBRARY
second year- architecture
Studio design project 2- involved rethinking Houston’s downtown public library. Project finds a language between adjacent public parks and the library’s entry gardens used to attract inhabitants of each to synchronize. Researching the future of public libraries guided the program to include these impactful outdoor spaces as well as amenities throughout it’s four floors including; cafe, auditoriums, and children’s classrooms.

CAPPUCCINI- URBINO, ITALY
fourth year group effort- interior design study aborad program
International studio- project design creates a central hub on University of Urbino’s campus that facilitates interactions between students and professors by meeting the needs of both. Our design balances and honors the existing structure whilst working on extraordinary topography.
Team: Gaby Ambriz, Jordan Carson, Victoria Higdon, Caroline Savell, Maggy Sullivan

Cappuccini’s program was primarily focused on the thirty suites needed for both long term and short term professors that would occupy the dorms at different times. My design of these dorms focused on the flexibility of circumstance per professor and how that cooresponds to which suite type they might reside in.
Working collaboratively with my team we connected amenities according to suite position.

THE RAND
third year- interior design
Design studio 5- This historic building holds many memories for locals that originally shopped, worked, and occupied the rand in downtown San Antonio. In an effort to attract the community once again, bringing back classic programs such as resturaunt/ retail levels, office workspace, residential units, and basement book tasting are recieved well. Celebrating the exterior embellishments and materiality was a priority in revamping and connecting the interior.

One of the most efficient ways of reestablishing the language between exterior and interior was to not shy away from ornamentation. The once stripped columns, exude more character now through embellished tuscan columns. Thus celebrating beautiful historic features.
Classic architectural elements along with modern finishes and open floor plans honors the past but is designed for the future.

SA- LAW FIRM EXERCISE
third year- interior design
Space planning 1- Researching the future of office spaces and what entices people to come to work post COVID-19. This exercise allowed us to be given program and having to work with limitations like combining traditional work enviornments like private offices and cubicles with open floor plan and flex spaces.

THANK YOU
