Impacting Lives

Under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport, GableStage has strived to strengthen appreciation for the role theatre plays in the community by prioritizing the development of its educational initiatives.

In the 2022-2023 Season, GableStage expanded, designed and reimagined its educational programming. Over 5,000 Miami-Dade students and hundreds of adult learners were served by the opportunities made possible by our generous sponsors.

With a mission of confronting today’s issues and ideas, GableStage plays an important role in inspiring optimism and imaginative problem solving to our community.

GableStage will broaden its outreach in 2023-2024. Audiences of all ages can look forward to increased opportunities to Engage with the Stage at the theatre, at their school, on-line and at community centers near and far.

Pre-Show Talks

Starting 30-min before every performance, audience members are invited to deep-dive into the production at hand by joining member of artistic team in the "cafe" in front of the theatre.

Immediately following the first Sunday matinee, please stay for a robust conversation with cast and artistic team.

Shakespeare-in-the-Schools

For nearly a decade, GableStage has sent contemporary adaptations of Shakespeare's most classic plays to Miami-Dade public schools through the Shakespeare-in-the-Schools program. This season, the production of Twelfth Night was performed through the lens of the Haitian migration to Miami, 22 times in 19 schools spanning from Homestead to North Miami Beach. Macbeth will be performed in 2023-2024.

Mainstage Student Matinees

These special, morning performances introduce high school students to professional, high-quality theatre productions. In 2022-2023, over 1000 students and teachers registered within the first 24 hours of the matinees being posted. GableStage proudly welcomed over 500 students into the theatre to witness the productions of We Will Not Be Silent and El Huracan. Student matinees for 2023-2024 will be offered for How I Learned What I Learned, The Thanksgiving Play, Old Wicked Songs and Laughs in Spanish.

Ignite

Ignite the ambitions of the next generation of theatre artists with this powerful, new initiative. In addition to receiving tickets to all five productions, nominated partner high-schools with serious theatre students, read and study all productions and recieve season-long access to GableStage artists and company members. GableStage was proud to have Coral Reef High School as our 2022-23 partner school. We hope to invite two schools to partner with in the upcoming season.

Diary of a Production

From script analysis to casting, designing and directing, this class took 15 adult learners deep into the artistic process of bringing a production to life. The 2022-2023 Season offered A Doll's House, Pt. 2 as the Diary. We look forward to offering Diaries for The Thanksgiving Play and The Lehman Trilogy in 2023-2024.
