Whether Fade marks your first time at GableStage or you have been a subscriber for 20 years, thank you for playing an important role in our 21/22 re-opening season. We look forward to seeing you again at the theatre!

NOTE FROM THE PRODUCING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Why Here, Why Now When I rolled up my sleeves and took a look at GableStage’s books, I noticed that before the pandemic, the company had licensing rights to several properties. Tanya Saracho’s Fade was one. I was unfamiliar with the play but fell in love with Tanya’s fresh, economic writing. The excellence of this piece lies in Saracho’s playful exploration of complex, personal topics like heritage, status and identity. For Saracho, now a successful television writer, Fade is an autobiographical piece. While it is certainly a play about class within the Latinx community, its message speaks to all: status does not change who you are at your core.

objectives of these productions are to expose culturally underserved students to an important work that may speak to their lives or the world today; allow students to hear Shakespeare’s words out loud in a creative manner rather than read in a classroom; and create a conversation around the historical elements of the production versus the storytelling devices used.

During the performance, students are directly encouraged by actors to seek out live cultural events within the community, see Shakespeare’s works in a new light, and continue their studies with historical works of theatre and literature. Students, no matter their economic status, are given the opportunity to see live theatre free of charge each year of high school. Many first-time attendees have never seen a live theatrical performance.

Vehicles Van: In addition to being able to bring our work to more locations within our community, having our own van will allow us to transport sets, props and costume pieces from storage to the theatre in no time.

Cars: Out-of-town artists need to be able to get around. At the very least, they need to travel from artist housing to the theatre and the grocery store. Having vehicles of our own would eliminate the need to rent a fleet of cars. Help!

Housing Have a guest house, vacation house or Airbnb? Housing with kitchens are needed for out-of-town artists staying two weeks or more. Warehouse Space Our theatre is intimate. Outside and inside. Extra warehouse space will help us store furniture, props and other materials used in the productions. Airline Miles Help bring out-of-town artists and playwrights to the productions.
