Formal Activities
Poon Yue Association 番禺会馆
The association was founded in 1879 at Upper Cross Street with financial assistance from Hoo Ah Kay, a well-known community leader from Whampoa district in Guangdong province. The association relocated to New Bridge Road in 1917. The building is a hybrid of NeoClassical and Art Deco styles which were popular with Chinese developers in the past who wanted to project a modern image.
Clubs And Organisations
Ee Hoe Hean Club 怡和轩俱乐部
The club was founded in 1895 by a group of Hokkien community leaders for the wealthy Chinese elite. More than a social and business club, its members were actively involved in the political development of China and supported the 1911 Xinhai Revolution which overthrew the Qing Dynasty, leading to the establishment of the Republic of China. During World War II, it was the headquarters of the antiJapanese China Salvation.
Kong Chow Wui Koon 冈州会馆
This Cantonese clan association was established in 1839 at Upper Chin Chew Street and moved in 1924 to the present building, designed by Westerhout & Oman. During the Japanese Occupation, the custodians volunteered the building as a clinic and hence its antique interiors remained intact. The association is well known for its lion dance troupe and martial arts.
Chin Kang Huay Kuan 晋江会馆
This association was established in 1918 by immigrants from Jinjiang County in southern Fujian, China. The current building contrasts with its ornately decorated neighbours. The use of straight lines, concrete ledges and mild steel framed windows is typical of the Modern style.. During World War II, the building was used by the Overseas Chinese General Mobilisation Council which helped the British in supplying labourers and volunteers for the defence of Singapore.

Incharge of an event collaboration between an independent bookstore as well as the Singapore Arts Museum (SAM). SAM launched a few of the public artworks along Tanjong Pagar area along with roving children's bookstore during June holiday as a way to create more entry points for children to explore art books and nature.
Opinions
thinks that the area ties in with the artwork here as well, as SAM is situated at Tanjong Pagar distripark. For public art initiative to be an everyday museum, they are trying to put up public artworks around the neighbourhood which is around Tanjong Pagar as well. The charm about Duxton plain park is that it is a rather urban park situated between rather relatively new buildings, like the Pinnacle but also buildings that retained their old world charm, like the Tanjong Pagar plaza. Quite an interesting duality to look at also. Just like nature vs man-made, old vs new.
Personal
Experience
thinks it's quite eclectic. The thing about Tanjong Pagar also is that there are quite a lot of multi generation families living here. One thing about Pinnacle at Duxton is that they have newer younger families but then there are also have a group of seniors who have probably stayed here for decades here in Tanjong Pagar so it is quite diverse.

Background
Opinions
He love how convenient the place is because he works around the CBD area and his daughter studies nearby plus the facilities such as hospitals, schools, and shopping are very accessible, so he love this place a lot.
Personal Experience
Tanjong Pagar itself is already very special as it was the first neighbourhood he stayed in Singapore. And his kid grew up in Tanjong Pagar as well, so she knows this place very well. He also knows the neighbour here longer compared to other neighbours in the other neighbourhood so he feels closer.

Stays and works at Guoco building and was born and grew up here.
Background
Opinions
Feels that it is quiet at night and vibrant in the day as there are many businesses and services around. At night, there are more recreational things like restaurants. So it’s a very good area.
It is also very central and the good thing about living in the city is that when people are going to work or eat, you are always going in the opposite direction of the traffic.
Personal
Experience
This place has changed a lot. When she first moved in around 2008, it was very quiet and a bit dodgy. It is kind of close but not central, a bit sketchy. But now it has definitely gotten more vibrant, there are more families, a lot more desirable.
Last time the whole of Tanjong Pagar used to be have shady ktv and many bridal studio. But now People actually like being around here. So it has definitely gotten very centric and nice now.

Green Marked Buildings
Park Royal Hotel
Inspired by Hong Lim Park, which is located next to the site, rice terraces and the topography of natural landscapes, the building brings 15,000 square metres of greenery – around double the area of the site – back into the city. The passive strategies such as naturally ventilated corridors, solar-powered irrigation, rain water retention and sun shading have helped this project to achieve Singapore’s Green Mark Platinum rating, the nation’s highest environmental certification.
Oasia Hotel
Oasia Hotel Downtown combines innovative ways to intensify land use with a tropical approach that showcases a perforated, permeable, verdant tower of green in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District. It reaches a green plot ratio of 1110% and has open-sided gardens, so there is no need for mechanical ventilation in the hotel's 314 rooms and 100 office units. Most of the water for the irrigation system is harvested from rainfall.
