Let’s Football

I

n the inaugural season last year, none of us knew when we played how it would go. As the games began and went forward, we had the full confidence that we could fill any stadium. Slowly we started to win the hearts of people because of the way we carried forward. We have a hugely talented side and I have no doubt that this season our confidence levels are high after the training and the results will show. This time we have an incredible team. We have players from different countries of the world, different cultures, different languages. Lot of different things have come together. We keenly look forward to the team playing their special brand of football.

I’m very sure that this year we would like to go out and better our performance than last year. Kerala Blasters are happy but not satisfied with their performance and there is always room for improvement and we will continue to get better. I can’t forget the fans who made our journey so special.

I would like to make a request to all fans, continue to love us, continue to support us, we value your support.

The Spirit of the Game

I

am really pleased and looking forward to the first game in front of supporters, that I have been told, are the best in the country.

Our preparations have gone well. We have got a nice 26 squad of players I believe are hungry and want to do as well as the team had done last season. So that is the target. We have been working extremely hard in Thiruvananthapuram, and are now back to the home ground. We’re looking forward to the challenge ahead.

I hope you enjoy the players that we have signed. I know that we have kept only one foreign player from last season, but we still kept at least six players that played with us in the inaugural season of the ISL. I hope you enjoy the new players. I hope they respond to you in the correct way and I hope we give you attacking football that you will enjoy. I promise you that the team will be as organized as it can be and they will work as hard as they can work.

On Home Ground

One of the largest stadiums in the country that is home to many talents.

T

he Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium or the Kaloor International Stadium as popularly known, is home to not just the Kerala Blasters but also to the Kerala Cricket team.

One of the largest and noisiest stadiums in the country, it has an official capacity of 60,500 spectators.

The Kaloor stadium also garnered a lot of attention in the first Indian Super League as it recorded one of the largest number of fans to watch football in India with 61,323 turning up to watch the match between the Kerala Blaster and Chennaiyin FC in November, 2014.

An average attendance of 40,000 as fans attended every match in Kochi dressed in their team colors.

The stadium was built in 1996 by the Government of Kerala with the Greater Cochin Development Authority. Though it was built for football, many other sports have been practiced in the stadium. A special pavilion to honor Sachin Tendulkar is present here with many memorabilia.

The stadium has been selected as one of the venues for the 2017 FIFA U足-17 World Cup to be held in India.

he inaugural season of Indian Super League was a trumpet call to a country that has been preoccupied with the game of cricket. For a month, bats, wickets, and gloves were piled up in the backyard as the country came out in shorts and jerseys to kick the ball. They braved the rains, the heat and filled up the arenas and in classic football fashion, went up in Mexican waves cheering their favorite teams.

A chance to the see the legends that these fans adored may also have brought in many of them. Each goal was wildly celebrated, tackles were

booed and every lost chance was “aahed�. The spirit of the beautiful game was visible in its truest flavor.

Fans punched their fists in the air as their teams won and wept inconsolably as they lost. As the game reached its crescendo wth Kerala Blasters FC facing Atletico de Kolkata in the finals, unseen sights unraveled as the country went into a never-seen- before football frenzy.

Atletico De Kolkata may have won the first season of the Indian Super League, but the biggest winner undoubtedly was the game of Football.
