Summer Super Stars! This summer, several of FWCD’s student-athletes traveled with their teams outside of school to further develop their skills and stay fresh for the upcoming 2017-18 sports season. Read about their accolades below.
CJ Landrum ’18, Softball I spent this past summer traveling and playing softball in Texas, Colorado, Arizona and California. I was also selected to play in the Colorado Fireworks “Future Stars TV Blue and Red Game.” Fifty of the top athletes from around the country were chosen to play in the televised game. I was thrilled because my family had an opportunity to see me play on ESPN! Our team, “Team Blue,” won the game 2610! Last year, I won the Colorado Fireworks “Fastest at the Fourth Competition” and was invited back this year to defend my title, and I won again! So now, I am the only back-to-back winner, and I won T-shirts for my entire team. Finally, I wrapped up the summer trying out for the “Scrapyard International” 18U softball team. I am thrilled to say that I was one of 17 girls selected and will be playing with my classmate and school teammate, Samantha Burke’ 18. This will be a fantastic opportunity and a great way to end my select/travel ball career because we will also be playing in Japan, Canada and possibly Malta.
Kathleen Clum ’18, Softball It was another exciting summer traveling across the country to play softball with my Texas Glory team. We played in California, Colorado and Atlanta, as well as in some local events. The summer was a success for both the team and for me, as we placed ninth in both the Colorado Sparkler and Atlanta Legacy Tournaments. In between, I was able to mix in a theatre leadership camp in New York City. Later this fall, I will be traveling to Providence, Rhode Island, for my official visit at Brown University. I am looking forward to meeting the other four girls that will be joining me in the Class of ’22!
Samantha Burke ’18, Softball I had an extremely busy and fun summer packed full with softball. We were never home for more than a week at a time due to all of the tournaments scattered across the country. We basically lived at the fields, as some days we were there for a total of 19 hours. Some of the most exciting and competitive tournaments we played in took

place in Aurora, Colorado, and Moreno Valley, California. We ended up being one of the top 16 teams in Colorado and got fifth place in California. I had some amazing experiences with my team, and I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my summer.
Chris Edwards ’20, Soccer At the end of June, I competed in the US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina. We played six games and went 6-0, scoring 20 goals and only allowing one—ultimately winning the championship. I was awarded the Golden Glove Award for being the best goalie in the tournament. By winning the regional tournament, we earned a spot in the US Youth Soccer National Championships that took place in Frisco. There was a national luncheon at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, where all of the participating teams and their coaches and parents dressed up and gathered to celebrate the accomplishment of making it this far. In the National Tournament we went 5-0, scoring 12 goals and only allowing one on our way to the National Championship. I was awarded the Golden Glove Award for being the best goalie in the tournament and was selected for the Best XI AllTournament Team. It was an experience I will never forget.
Welcome Home, Trainer Stacy The Athletic Department is thrilled to have Stacy Bourne Walsh ’02 join the athletic training team. Stacy was a threesport athlete (volleyball, soccer, softball) who went on to Baylor University to pursue her degree in athletic training/sports medicine. She went on to earn a master’s degree in kinesiology at the University of Tennessee. Most recently, Stacy was the Head Athletic Trainer at a school in New Mexico. We are excited Stacy, along with her husband Jason and their two dogs and cats, have returned home to Fort Worth.
Kenzi Carter ’20, Basketball I kicked off my summer with unofficial visits to Rice and Yale Universities to tour their campuses and participate in the Yale Elite Basketball Camp. I competed with my AAU basketball team during the second segment of the NCAA July recruiting period at the Super 64 Nationals in Frisco, the Nike Tournament of Champions in Chicago and the U.S. Junior Nationals in Washington, D.C., and achieved several top honors. I was named one of the top underclassmen at the PBR Super 64 National Championship in Frisco. I made the All-Star Team at U.S. Nationals 17U National Championship in Washington D.C. (3,367 players from 356 teams). With all the games this summer, I was fortunate to receive interest from several colleges and universities from around the country.
Henry Lynn’ 21 competed in USA Track & Field (USATF) this summer in several distance events in the boys 15-16 age group. He competed in his local association (North Texas) in June and placed to advance to regionals in Houston. In Houston, he won first place in the 3,000 meter race with a time of 9:45, which qualified him to advance to the USATF National Junior Olympics in Lawrence, Kansas on July 28. At nationals, Henry placed 28th in the 3,000 meters at nationals out of 43 runners, with a time of 9:51.

Karli Reed ’21 has attended several tournaments, camps and clinics to pursue her interest in one day being a collegiate field hockey goalie.
Mia Fleischer ’20 and Katie Bynum ’20 had a great time attending the University of Virginia field hockey camp this past summer.
Drew Chilcoat ’19 has attended several kicking camps for football and done extremely well. In 2017 alone, he was the Golden Boot Champion, Punt Elimination Winner and Kickoff Elimination Winner.
