Welcome to Falcon Country Dear Falcon Fans, Welcome to a year full of promise for excellence and joy: in our athletics program, as in our arts and academic experiences.

Thank you for supporting our teams, our athletes, our coaches, and our opponents. Here at Fort Worth Country Day, we have a wonderfully storied and proud athletic history. We are Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) Champions.

Our stellar student-athletes have taken their experiences from FWCD to the collegiate level, with others whose careers did not go beyond high school but who benefited from our coaches’ teaching and from the powerful experience of being a member of a team. With their efforts and their attitudes, our student-athletes make us proud. It is such a joy to watch them compete.

Our coaches make us proud as well. With high standards of excellence set by our new Director of Athletics, Leigh Block, we have educators running our practices and guiding our games to get the most out of our athletes. So, as you support the players, don’t forget to appreciate the dedication of their coaches.

If you’re reading this program, I’m guessing you are a Falcon fan. We appreciate your support, both the calm, clapping type and the wildly exuberant variety. Our players benefit so much from your presence and your enthusiasm. I look forward to seeing our student bleachers, a gift from the Class of 2019, awash in red and blue as our students get the opportunity to cheer on their friends.

In that enthusiasm, I remind everyone of our desire to model the best possible sportsmanship. We respect our opponents, and we trust that our referees are doing their best.

Welcome Dear Falcon Fans, This is a school year all of us have been looking forward to for a while. I know that our student-athletes have been anticipating this opportunity for months, and we all have a renewed appreciation for what it means to be together, either competing on our playing fields or cheering from the stands.

Our aim is to cultivate a competitive spirit within our student-athletes. We want them to strive to be the best in everything they do and to always give maximum effort.

Outcomes will vary -- if we win, we’ll win with humility; if we lose, we’ll lose with grace -- but you will see that our student-athletes’ efforts will be consistent. Our Falcons will play hard; they will compete.

We also aim to teach our student-athletes to put their team before themselves, to understand that the opportunity to be on a team, to be a part of something larger than yourself, is a gift. Our student-athletes will play together.

All of us are part of a support team: coaches, administrators, officials, parents of Falcon athletes and our opponents’ athletes, all fans in attendance. Our role is to support the student-athletes competing here tonight, both on and off the field, to be sure our students have a rewarding experience in scholastic athletics.

On a personal note, I’m very excited to begin my first year as Director of Athletics at Fort Worth Country Day. Everyone has been so welcoming to me and my wife Mandi -- we couldn’t help but feel at home here though we just arrived in June. We are looking forward to a terrific year in Falcon athletics!

They worked hard throughout the summer months to prepare for our fall season and are anxious to get back on the field, court and course. We can’t wait to cheer them on!
