From The Desk of Managing Editor RUDRAKSHA Rudraksha is a Sanskrit word. If we split this word into two we get these two words Rudra and Aksha. Rudra means Lord Shiva and Aksha means Aansu(tears) of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu Mythology tears of Shiva fell on earth in the form of Rudraksha tree. The Rudraksha tree belongs to Elaecarpaceae family and is as huge as the Banyan tree which has seed covered with pulp and outer skin. After drying the skin turns black and grooves appear on the surface running from apex to the bottom, there by demarcating clear areas called ‘Mukha or faces’. The Rudraksha are classified on the basis of number of faces, which can range from one to twenty one.

Gauri-Ganesh Rudraksha : Gauri-Ganesh Rudraksha has some very significant and special characteristics and it is attached to divinity. This divine piece of Rudraksha is worn to beget the extraordinary child endowed with talent, intelligence and all inherent qualities. Light on Progeny : A compact Approach to Conception Dr. Suresh Chandra Mishra

In the classics, there are certain specific canons of astrology which help us to determine whether the native can enjoy the bliss of a child. The Shastra deals with Aadhana or conception in a scientific manner so as to help us achieve a child of good qualities as well as to plan our family by choice. The following is a methodical description for deducing the right moment of conception under astrological guidance. Moon and Mars : The Menstrual Cycle The classics reveal that in female natives, the Moon and Mars together are responsible for their menstrual cycles occurring at approximately monthly intervals. The existence of this cycle is a prerequisite for conception. Varah Mihir states that every month, females undergo the Aartava (bleeding) and this is because of the disposition of the Moon and Mars in natal chart as well as the then transit of Mars and the Moon. Jupiter and Venus: Ovum and Sperms In the female, under a natural process every month, the ovarian follicle ruptures and releases the ovum, which moves through either of the two Fallopian tubes toward the lumen of the uterus. The conception occurs when the ovum meets with the sperm. A fruitful union of the two depends on the coincidence of Aadhana (fertile sexual union) within a prescribed limit of time. However, the longevity of an ovum and sperm, after their release, is estimated to be seventy-two hours and thirty-six hours respectively, but the conception from an aged sperm and ovum may lead to abnormalities in a child. generative organs, their adequate function and fertility. Badrayana states that from the natal Moon of a male, the Moon transitting in 3, 6, 10, 11 rashis, gives rise to a successful conception when it receives aspect from Jupiter or Venus. Classics establish that a weak Jupiter for females and a weak Venus for males, particularly in houses 7 and 8, manifests as disturbed function of the ovary (factory of ova) and testis (factory of sperms). Saturn and Gullika : Death and Birth Saturn and Gullika together signify the negative aspects of life, hence they are the Kaarakas of life and longevity, creation and annihilation, or birth and death in their interrelated forms. Saturn and Gullika, in a favourable disposition, are essential for these aspects.Saturn controls the nervous system and, therefore, a proper functioning of all organs depends on it.Classics reveal that Saturn alone can manifest bliss of parentage, altering any adverse planetary combinations for progeny. Sun: The God of Delivery In the Vedas, the Sun, being lord of generation, is described as the god of delivery of a child. It controls smoothness and success in this venture.Although the Sun rules specifically over the fourth as well as the last month of pregnancy, a 17

The Sun represents ability of conception, Venus the sperms, Mars the menses and the Moon the overall welfare of the foetus. Mercury: The Umbilical Cord The umbilical cord is ruled by Mercury. Through this umbilical cord, the foetus gets life from the body of the mother. Hence, Mercury, being significator of our mind and brain, also represents the umbilical cord as well as the circulation of the baby, thus signifying a link between the mother and the baby. Detecting the Release of a Fertile Ovum We know that a female generally produces one ovum a month while a drop of semen generally has thousands of sperms. During the process of ovulation, when the egg or the ovum sets out with aspiration of being united with one of the millions of sperms, one cannot predict the fate of that ovum. Whether it will fertilize or die before arriving at its destination is too difficult to say. It is commonly known that it comes out almost at the middle of the menstrual cycle. A simple way of fixing the day is in practice. When a female in the mornings tends to have her body temperature about 0.5 degree higher, that is the likely day of its release from the ovary.

Although any sort of sensual play is prohibited during menses, but pregnancy (fertilization of the ovum by the sperm) in this period is not impossible. Similarly instances of conception taking place in the last week of the cycle are not unknown. In the case of a normal cycle, sages had considered prime likelihood of bearing a child right from the fifth to the twentyfirst day of the cycle. Astrology might help determine the day of ovulation with some ease as well as accuracy. Progeny by Choice The following description is applicable to those who are physically intact, with their generative organs anatomically and physiologically normal. For full details, readers are advised to go through our book written in Hindi, viz., Sukha Santana Deepika. Step-1 •

Take note of the rashis (of the natal Moon) of the couple.

Erect a chart of the planetary position for the moment of starting of menses.

Check for whether the Moon transits in 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12 rashis from the natal Moon of the female.

In that month, the ovum has great possibility of getting fertilized as and when the Moon establishes any of the above-mentioned relation with Mars.

Without relation with Mars, the ovum ends in nullity.

Badarayana states ‘At the time of menses, the Moon transiting in any of the Anupachaya rashis from the natal Moon of a female, and having relation with Mars, manifests conception of a child. This is not to be applied to those who suffer from infertility or disease, have achieved menopause, or are with undeveloped organs.’ Step-2 •

Similarly the Moon should transit in 3, 6, 10, 11 rashis from the natal Moon of the male.

The fertilization ensues when such a Moon establishes any relation with Jupiter and/or Venus. Especially, relation of the Moon with a strong Venus is highly extolled.

Without relation with Jupiter/Venus, conception does not occur even if the couple enjoy sensual pleasures normally.

This method may be applied to check at the time of conception.

Contrary is the result if the Moon obtains a reverse position.

In simple words, we can grasp the matter in this manner. When the natal Moon of the couple meets the above-mentioned conditions, they should proceed further for parentage. The Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Venus should be strong in disposition and free from any malefic conjunction. Any weakness of these planets may give rise to adverse situations in conception or in gestation.

Alternate Method-2 Add Lagna, Yamakantaka, Gullika and the Moon at menses. Similarly consider the rashi in the sum for the Moon. Supportive Yogas Aartava (menstrual bleeding) happening every month means an ineffective menstrual cycle while the same indicating conception is labelled as Garbhartava (the cycle promising conception). In modern era, it has become the dream of each and every one to travel abroad. Many of them aspires to settle even in foreign land. But is it possible for each individual ? We will try to find out astrologically whether the planets present in the horoscope of a particular native promise this or not. Foreign travel can be classified under two distinct heads : • Occasional or frequent travel overseas. • Long term or permanent residence abroad. According to Sloka 8 and chapter-vi of 'Jatak Parijat', when the lord of ascendant occupies 12th house and Mars is conjunct with the Moon in a malefic sign identical to 10th house one goes to foreign land. -The ascendant lord at any of duhsthan (6th, 8th or 12th) is known as 'Dehakasht yoga' and invites the native for bodily sufferings, privation, over-exertion and general physical debility. It also include Moon & Mars conjunction in a malefic sign in 10th house. This is quite opposite to 'Amla Yoga' which is said to confer good reputation etc. Another stanza in chapter-xi of "Jatak Parijat" says 'when the lord of 12th house from the house which is occupied by lord of ascendant is in depression or weak, the native having such configuration goes to foreign country. In above stanza the emphasis is on 12th from the house occupied by lord of ascendant. When this 12th house is influenced by way of placement or aspect by different planets the results are as under : 20

Vedic philosophy was always of the view that the world is full of illusion and Brahma is the truth, light or consciousness. The world may be illusory but it is hard to believe that we all live in a non-real world. As we know our birth, death, miseries, pain, difficulties, happiness and so on and so forth are all real even though some Buddha, Zen master, seeker, guru, philosopher said that the world is illusory but that does not bother mankind because man lives and what happens around him is as real as it could be. The real trouble begins when a quantum physicist says that the world is a projection of the mind as a matter of fact it does not exist. The physicist echoes the same sentiments of Vedanta. 26

Quantum Physics penetrated the universe and changed the understanding of the Universe entirely in the last century. On the basis of that Einstein could foresee and develop the theory of relativity and later on scientists like Stephen Hawkings and others are exploring the world as never before. If the quantum physicists were exploring the cosmos in the last century then today they are trying to establish scientifically they influence of cosmic consciousness of each and everybody on this earth. Quantum physicists are taking a leap further and are speaking the language of Vedanta and are saying that the world is an imaginary place. The new hypothesis is that the world exists because of your imagination otherwise it is not there. The physicists are also working on sub-particle of electron, neutron, proton and quark. Their findings of quark and other particles are astonishing. They have noticed that the same quark is appearing in more than one place. Since human body is also made of these elements it suggests that the same human body can be present in more than one place at the same time. The Indian philosophy of Vedanta is based on this principle. Vedas and especially Upanishads know for sure that this world is a maya or delusion and existential reality pervades all over but can be seen only by crossing this illusory world. a (spirit) and prakriti, (nature) but it was a sheer choice of Ishwar to create this world and prakriti provides and gives intelligent support to the spirit. Ishwar (spirit) can exist without the support of nature but this luxury, prakriti cannot afford. In other words it is the leela or creative play by Ishwar, where things look as they are happening in reality even though they are not actually happening. About 1200 years back Adi Shankaracharya has said in his doctrine of Advaita that “jagat mithyam, brahma satyam”. The world is illusory and Brahma is the truth, light or consciousness. If we go back to the origin of the world, then Brahma was alone there in the Universe and did not create the world for a very long time. One day he was in a blissful mood and thought to himself ‘let me be many’ and the world started happening. In other words, the world is the creation of the mind of Brahma. Brahma did not use any other primordial force other than his mind to create the world. Science also gives the same kind of logic about the creation of the world based on its scientific analysis called the Big Bang. Many analysts and philosophers derive the analogy between the Big Bang and Brahma as almost identical. Brahma was alone in the Universe for time immemorial and was least interested in any action whether of mind or physical. He was very happy in his state of ‘yog nidra’ (slumber), which went on for a long time and one day he suddenly woke up and with the thought of creation and existence started taking place. Scientists also apply the same kind of logic that the world was dense, filled with gases and different elements and immense heat, and then when it could not bear itself any longer then the big bang happened which brought life to the earth. Quantum physics has given a new tool to the scientists to explore the universe and its existence right from the beginning and how it will unfold itself in the distant future. Science is not leaving any stone unturned to do research in the physical as well as metaphysical world. The beauty of science lies that it can explore unknown areas objectively as well as subjectively with the same pace and enthusiasm. Since scientists remain unattached to a great extent through the process of his research which helps them to know the hidden truths to validate their theories to a great extent. Science has also understood that a subatomic particle is made of two things energy and intelligence. The real source of creation is the energy and intelligence of an atom. Science wants to dissect the energy and intelligence and see them function separately which perhaps is not possible. The world is made of five elements and these five elements are fire, earth, water air and space and human beings are made of eight elements which include these five elements and mind, intellect and ego. The combination of these eight elements gives rise to gunas in an individual’s personality. The three gunas are sattva, rajas and tamas. Sattva means purity, truth, light, intelligence; rajas means dynamism, action, aggression and ‘I’-ness, tamas: inertia, ego, dullness, ignorance. The imbalance or excess of these gunas leads one to form ones samskaras or attributes. All of us act in this world based on one’s samskaras or attributes. According to Bhagwad Gita, an individual is himself his own friend and his own enemy. Further, Krishna says man has six enemies (ripu). If other people become inimical then their enmity can be traced to the root of their activities; but Krishna says the real danger of man is man 27

These six ripus are: Kama or desire Krodha or anger Lobh or greed Moha or delusion Madh or pride mixed with arrogance Matsarya or jealousy Besides these six ripus, man has three additional confinements. First is the confinement with outer influence and due to this man drags himself into the outside world. The second confinement is ‘I-ness’ or man’s ‘I’ the ego. Due to over indulgence Man usually forgets his real self and starts believing that he is just a body. The third confinement is the mind itself. The basic difference between man and animal is of mind / intellect. All animals are bestowed with special instincts and qualities. The basic qualities are directly connected with a specific element. The earth element represents touch; when one has to tame a wild elephant then the female elephant is brought near the male elephant and with a touch he starts chasing her. The touch sense is so strong in the elephant that he goes mad and wants to hold her at any cost. This is how he is tricked by hunters; they dig a pit and trap the elephant. The fire element denotes attraction (roopam). The moth’s fatal attraction to fire is well known. Air represents smell; the bee / bhanwara is drawn to the fragrance of flowers and gets trapped in it and loses his life. The element water represents juice/ras. Fish is attracted towards the bait on the fishing line and gets caught in the hook. The partridge / Chakora goes crazy when he sees the full moon and flies in the sky and loses his life. All the five senses play a very important role in the life of a human being. The imbalance of one element can create havoc in nature; one can very well imagine if there is a chaotic functioning of all five elements then what would 28

a happen. All of us are deeply engrossed and influenced by these elements. Besides this with our mind we create a different beautiful world of our liking and want to spend the rest of our lives in that cozy environment. Intellect also plays a very important role in our life and we can ward off all the difficulties with the use of our intellect. With the use of mind and intellect one automatically becomes an achiever. It is next to impossible to not get an inflated ego when one is such an achiever. Man utilizes his mind, intellect, senses and ego to move ahead in life. These give shape to his mind’s creations and help him to accomplish what he desires. Once his creations and needs are fulfilled then there is a sense of achievement and accomplishment and here is where his ego comes into play. New avenues and new dimensions open up for him and this increases his confidence and also inflates his ego. He begins to think that he is infinite so he also feels that he has the ability to decipher the infinite with his mind. Using their scientific mind physicists want to unlock the mysteries of the cosmic consciousness. They are not wrong in thinking that they can achieve this because they have gained confidence over the years as they have already unravelled many ambiguities of Nature. There seems to be a parallel between what the scientific minds are thinking and Brahma’s creation of the world with his mind. It therefore seems possible as they are using the vast and inexhaustible mind to reveal the intricacies of cosmic consciousness. Modern day quantum physicists have gone further in their study of the atom where in the sub-sub particles they have seen that one sub-particle is available at more than one place. a present at more than one place at the same time. In their discoveries the scientists are trying to establish that this is a general phenomenon and no mystery is attached to it. Man is made of sub-sub particles quark; and once this secret is known then a single man can also be present at several places like the great saints. This reminds us of the legend of Lord Krishna dancing with several gopis and no gopi ever complained that Krishna was not with her when dancing the raas leelas. The same facts were revealed by more than 16,000 wives of Lord Krishna and none of them ever felt that Krishna was not with them. They all had their own story to tell about their togetherness with Krishna. Physicists in their zeal and enthusiasm are not stopping only here but are going further to decipher the cosmic consciousness and this could be realized by every human being in his body, mind and soul on this earth. It looks like a sci-fi fantasy but physicists are in reality working on this and hope that one day each and every human being will understand the cosmic consciousness or Brahma or enlightenment or Krishna consciousness or Christ consciousness or Buddha consciousness and become a realized soul. The world is made of Ishwar (spirit) and Nature (prakriti). Nature (prakriti) is an important element but the formation of the world cannot happen without the direct cooperation of Ishwar. Here lies the magic of duality and non-duality. The world although seems to be of dual nature but at the same time non-duality persists more than duality. At the same time ordinary mind cannot understand and grasp the duality and non-duality. Unless the mind ceases there is no way to grasp the duality and non-duality at the same wavelength. Existence or consciousness pervades all over the universe. Mind is the sharpest instrument that nature has given to mankind and with the help of mind man has been able to understand many horizons and cross many frontiers which only mind can reveal. When the limitation of mind ceases, only then it can grasp consciousness. Cosmic consciousness is beyond the capacity of mind so only when mind ceases to exist then existential consciousness reveals itself. Isha Upanishad says that mind can reach out anywhere wherever it wants within no time. For instance if mind thinks of the moon it is there, if he thinks of the sun and the galaxies then it is there in the next moment. In this bargain mind consciousness takes fraction of seconds to reach where it wants to reach but consciousness is already there. If mind wants to grasp the consciousness of the universe then it has to cease completely otherwise there is no hope. r

Ganda Mool Nakshatra – Need not be afraid of S.P. Gaur, Sunil Jain, Gurgaon

People are scared to learn that their child has been borne in Ganda Mool. They feel some kind of calamity would befall, on the family in near future if shanti pooja is not done on 27th day of the birth. Therefore those who consult an astrologer for birth horoscope would invariably go for 'shanti'. In the past when parents were not so particular about horosocpe of the newly born, would obviously not perform Ganda Mool shanti. Astrologers, on their part, would always recommend for 'Mool Shanti' even if the nakshatra charan 'phala' is found to be positive. Even when examining the horoscope of an elder person, Ganda Mool nakshatra comes to the notice of the astrologer, generally the astrologer would blame the Ganda Mool nakshatra for all the problems faced by the native and recommend for Mool shanti. Thus Ganda Mool nakshatra is treated at par with other doshas like Kaal Sarpa, Pitri, 'Dhaiyya' or 'Sadhesati' of shani, Manglik doshas etc. Ganda Mool Shanti should be performed upto 27 months or maximum 7 years age of the child, thereafter it is irrelevent.

Birth Nakshatra is part of the Panchang In astrology five parameters of Panchang are applied to assess the auspiciousness or otherwise of any event. This is extensively used in forecasting of Muhurta time for any important event of life. The birth of a person is the most important happening of his life. The configuration of planets at birth time form the horoscope from which we can decipher the quality of one's entire life, the good and bad periods of life, health, longevity, educational and professional field, financial position, family relations etc. In fact astrology enables us to reply to any query raised by the native about any aspect of life. The birth time horoscope is equivalent to the seed of a plant which contains all the information about the sprouting of the seed, the size and colours of its branches, leaves, flowers, fruits, the blooming time, its utilities as a gift of nature. The five parameters of Panchang are : 1. Tithi, 2. Vaar, 3. Nakshatra, 4. Yoga, 5. Karan Thus birth nakshatra is one of the five consttituents of Panchang. It is the nakshatra of the Moon at the time of birth. Every component of the Panchang is important. There are good tithis and bad tithis. Apart from rikta tithis, chaturdashi and amavasyas are considered inauspicious in krishna paksha. Among the Vaars, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday are not auspicious. There are ten yogas, out of 27, which are supposed to be inauspicious. Among the Karans, Vishti Karan or Bhadra is highly inauspicious while sthir karans such as Shakuni, Chatuspada, Naag and Kinstughna are also not so auspicious. Similarly 34

among the nakshatras, six nakshatras out of twenty seven, are supposed to be inauspicious. Three of these viz. Ashwini, Magha and Mool belong to Ketu and another three viz. Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati belong to planet Mercury. These six nakshatras are referred to as Ganda Mool nakshatras. In our opinion, Birth Nakshatra is the most important constitutent of the birth time panchang. Moon in astrology is as important as the ascendant. Moon's rashi is called the birth or Janma rashi of the native. Moon's nakshatra is the basis for calculating the dasha cycle of the native because the first Vimshottari dasha belongs to the lord of the Moon's nakshatra. In muhurta calculations, the Moon's rashi of the person is taken into consideration. Again for studying the impact of transiting planets, Moon's rashi is taken as the lagna and accordingly the auspicious houses of the planets are decided. In this way Moon's nakshatra is highly important factor to influence the life of the native. Gandanta time is inauspicious 'Ganda' in Sanskrit language is the 'Sandhi' time or the knot tied between two important parameters of time for connecting one to the other. As a knot, to tie two pieces of thread, is a weak spot, similarly Gandanta time is a weak link between two astrologically important factors. We can find from the above that lagna Gandantas also specify the same nakshatra pair as contained in Nakshatra-Gandanta. The ghati represents 24 minutes of time. We also find that all kinds of Sandhi kaal or transitional periods are considered troublesome, confusing and destructive. The concept of Gandanta is extended to Sun's sankranti (ingress into next

rashi), Bhava-Sandhi, Dasha-Sandhi, Sandhya time in early morning and Sun's setting time in evening. These are supposed to be delicate and sensitive times. Any event happening at transition time can cause havoc in the life of the concerned person. We all know when one Ritu or season ends and the other begins e.g. summer-rainy, autumn-winter, winterspring etc. the immune system is weak and is challenged by seasonal change. It may not be out of place to mention here about "Mansagari" granth which has been used extensively by astrologers to write the life long predictions of horoscope. To our knowledge, this is the only classical book which gives results of the birth in a Panchang/ Avkahada specific manner citing yug, Samvatsar, Ayana, Ritu, Goal, Maas, Paksha, Tithi, Vaar, Nakshatra, Yog, Karan, Gana, Yoni etc. The treatise gives highly positive results of all Ganda Mool nakshatras except Ashlesha.

Again some scholars have recommended Mool nakshatra's results in different manners e.g. dividing the 60 ghati period in 8 unequal parts ranging from 4 to 11 ghati denoting different parts of a tree, some have given results monthwise and some have used Tithis and vaars for Mool nakshatra's good or bad results.

Purpose of the Research study •

Whether the persons born in Ganda Mool nakshatra have experienced the same good or bad results as mentioned charan wise?

Whether those who went for Ganda Mool shanti escaped the bad results or their good results faced any hinderance if 'shanti pooja' was not done?

Whether Abhukt Mool cases sufferred extra ordinary, problems in life, if they did not perform 'Mool Shanti'?

For this purpose we scanned the horoscopes of nearly 150 known persons and could lay hands on 40 cases of Ganda Mool nakshatras. We prepared a format and asked for their confirmation of the nakshatra charan result (good or bad) and whether their parents had performed Mool shanti. We also identified 10 celebrities who were born in Ganda Mool nakshatras and made a guess about the good or bad results faced by them. We segregated the cases into Good (auspicious) or Bad (inauspicious) categories in accordance with the charan wise expected results. Results unfolded •

Out of 50 cases, 14 cases were to experience good ressults (28%) while in 36 cases (72%) bad

Out of 32, only 5 persons experienced bad results while 27 did not experience any bad results. Out of these 32 ordinary persons 20 (62.5%) had performed Ganda Mool Shanti. Out of 36, there were 4 celebrities, none of them experienced any bad results. Among them only one was, Hindu, 2 Muslims and one Christian. Therefore 'Shanti' could not have been done at least in 75% cases. All the 4 cases fall under Abhukt Mool category. Abhukt Mool nakshatras are supposed to give worst results but facts are different. Out of 12 ordinary persons 11 (91.67%) did not experience any bad results. Out of 4 celebrities, all of them or 100% experienced good results only.

a Only 8 (66.67%), out of 12 ordinary cases, had performed 'Shanti'. Among the 4 celebrity cases, only one was Hindu as stated above. Conclusion From the above analysis of factual cases, it is apparent that in majority of the cases, the result experienced were opposite to expected bad results while good results were experienced in abundance. Abhukt Mool cases showed no different results. Out of 16 such cases, adversity was faced only in one case. Similarly role of Ganda Mool shanti is also suspect. Without shanti good results were experienced and with 'shanti' also bad results were

faced. In nutshell we can say, Ganda Mool Nakshatra criterion, on its own, is not at all a reliable factor to decide the fate of a person. There are many factors much more important and much more reliable for analysing a horoscope. We would also like to appeal to serious students of astrology to go for research with bigger sample size and test the Ganda Mool Nakshatra or similar conservative theories in real life experience so that we can discharge the role of a guide or a consultant more effectively for the benefit of the society.

In the present atmosphere numerous macro and micro branches and faculties of education have emerged. Several minute branches have come out of a particular subject. So it has become difficult for the astrologers to find out astrologically the subject, a native will choose. Biotechnology is one such subject which has become popular in recent times. Let us try to find out the planetary significations and combinations for the study of Biotechnology in the present research article. Biotechnology consists of two terms Biology and technology. It is the use of living systems and organisms to develop or manufacture useful products. Biotechnology encompasses a wide range of procedures for modifying living organisms according to human purposes. Biotechnology has applications in four major varied industrial areas including healthcare, agriculture, industries and foodstuffs. Thus Biotechnology is the application of science and technology to living organisms. Therefore, the role of many important planets signifying the particular area come into play. Jupiter is the planet of living organisms (the Jeeva). Saturn and Mars are considered to be the technical planets, so their role is also prominent. In Biotechnology chemical processing also takes place, so the Rashis and the Planets representing water element also come to the forefront. Moon is considered to be the planet representing water elements. So, it is essential to take into accounts the combination of all above mentioned factors while deciding the study of Biotechnology by a particular native. 40

For the knowledge and convenience of the readers, it has been illustrated by the following two examples where the natives got the education of Biotechnology due to the combined effects of various astrological factors viz. the concerned planets, rashis and the favourable dashas for the study of Biotechnology. Example 1 : DOB : Oct. 25, 1984, TOB : 7.00 hrs, POB : Secunderabad – B.Sc. (Biotechnology) in 2002 and M.Sc. (Biotechnology) in 2005. In Birth Chart, fifth house from Lagna and Mercury is Aquarius. Fifth lord, Saturn is exalted in Lagna and is in nakshatra of Jupiter, the planet of living organisms (the Jeeva). Saturn is conjoined with Moon, Mercury and

Thus there is combined influence of all the planets required for the study of Biotechnology i.e. Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and Moon. In Navamsha chart, 5th house is Cancer, a watery sign owned by the Moon and aspected by Saturn. Fifth lord Moon is placed in Aquarius with Rahu and aspected by Saturn and Jupiter. Kitchen : cooking with energy Kitchen is the most important room in a house since it affects the Health & Wealth of the whole family. According to Vaastu, the best place for a kitchen is the South-East corner, as South-East is supposed to be the place of Fire God. From the practical & scientific point of view as well, it is considered to be the proper place for a kitchen as beneficial infra-red rays come from East and ultraviolet rays, which are harmful for germs like bactereia, virus etc, come from South. The other option especially for west or north facing houses recommended by Vaastu is the NorthWest area, being the air zone which is vital for burning activity. The other acceptable directions can be East & South Zone also so as to prevent the smoke and cooking Fumes from flowing into the living / working area & affecting the health of the inmates.

Direction for Cooking For good taste, as also for ensuring proper health of the family especially ladies, the cooking hobs should be ideally positioned in such a way that one is facing east while preparing food. In case of a kitchen placed in North-West corner of the house, one can face west also while cooking. Cooking while facing Northeast/North results into heavy expenditure, difference of opinion & mental unrest. In many situations the problems of survical, pain in the shoulders have been cured simply by avoiding cooking facing South/ Southwest. Another important advice to ensure good health especially to reduce backaches & pain in the legs is to avoid a door at the back while cooking or fix a convex mirror in front to reflect the door area.

Five elements in kitchen The sink should be placed in the Northeast(Water element) or North or East, the gas stove and other electric appliances are to be placed in the Southeast(Fire element) or Northwest(Air zone). Heavy and full height cabinets are to be built in the Southwest zone (Earth element). The Centre (Space element), North and East of the kitchen should be kept open. The fridge and the storage cupboards are best arranged along the southern and western walls. Colours The best colours recommended in Vaastu for the kitchen are all shades of yellow, 44

off- white or cream colours . Colours like blue and black should be totally avoided. The roof must always be painted white. Bedroom Bedroom is supposed to be a place for romance and relaxation. Vaastu says that the bedroom should be as far away from North and East direction as possible. The more you are closer to South and West, more you will find peace and comfort. That is why Southwest or south area is best suited for a master bedroom. Never place your head towards North while sleeping since like poles repell each other. It should be towards South, as it ensures good health and peaceful sleep(since our head being North pole is attracted by earth's South pole). Placing your head in East or West is also beneficial depending upon the location of doors, window & toilets. Maximum furniture should be kept on South and West side of the bedroom.

Bathroom : cleanse & rejuvenate The bathroom or toilet adjacent to the Southeast corner in the East direction is very useful as the morning Sunrays coming from East side falls on our body & kills the germs. It can also be constructed in the West or North of Northwest or in the South directions, leaving the Northeast & the Southwest corners. The seat should be preferably placed on North-South axis. Bathroom should not be placed in the Northeast or Southwest zone of the bedroom. The washbasin can be placed in the Northern or Eastern area. The geyser can be placed in the Southeastern, South or East or Northwest zone of the bathroom.

Preferably, there should not be any reflective surface in the bedroom to ensure harmonious family life & better health. In case, there is no other option but to have a mirror/T.V/Computer etc, place it in such a way that it does not reflect the bed or you can cover the mirror with cloth before going to sleep. As per Mayamata, an ancient text, the bathroom should be beautiful, free from dirt, hair, and decorated with flowers, plants & fragrant substances. The Colours should be light, refreshing such as light blue,green, offwhite etc. A lot of natural light, air & ventilation is the basic requirement of this part of the house. Drawing room / Living room Living Rooms are the areas where guests are entertained in the first instance, the dĂŠcor of this room reflecting to greater extent the status of the occupants. in Mid East or Mid West as the kitchen in Northwest or South east will be able to serve these rooms comfortably. For North/Northwest facing houses, it can be located in Northwest and Northeast also. For South facing houses, living room can be located in Southeast as well. In living room, doors in the East and North are the first choice. It must not have any door on the Southwest side. Maximum furniture, showcases, heavy articles should be placed in the Southwest, South or West zone. T.V. should be in the Southeast zone or either in the South or West. It should not be in the Northeast or Southwest corners. The furniture of the living room should be square or rectangular but not round, triangular, oval shapes or hexagonal. The Portraits/Statues of cruel animals, weeping and nude children/women, scenes from war should not be displayed as they create disharmony amongst the family members.

Light facing in upward direction like bracket light or wall mounting light is recommended in the study room as it lifts the energy in the evening hours. The bed can be placed in Southwest,South or West corner. The main door/window to this room should not be exactly behind the student otherwise it will disturb concentration and can arouse the feeling of insecurity. If the children are small, the interiors can be bright and enlightening. Balconies Balconies are provided at upper floors for multipurpose uses like sitting, drying up clothes or placing small plants or flowe pots. As a general rule the balconies provided in Northeast, North, East, West of Northwest and South of Southeast of the building will bring happiness,stability & good health where as structure in Southwest, East of Southeast and North of Northwest should be avoided.

Align your Chair Once for All

More often than not, Vaastu Consultants will advise you to place your office chair in such a way that you face towards the North-East.North- East is called Ishan Kone in Vaastu Science and it is understood to have the qualities of both the North and the East. Now imagine that if the North-East in your office is a dead brick wall,will you like to face a dead wall ? Imagine further that there is a window in the North-East and there is a door in the opposite direction that is South-West ; if you place your chair in the South-West zone with a view to facing North-East, it will again not be correct since there is an opening behind your chair which will lead to a sense of insecurity and surprise for you. Let us paint another picture. Let there be a solid wall behind your chair and let there be a window in the North-East but there is a window in the North-West as well and this window gives you a view of the pleasant greenery and moving traffic ; would you avoid the window in the North-West which gives you a more energetic view just to adhere to the principle of facing North-East as per Vaastu? If you do so, you are working against the common sense. Let us imagine one more scenario. view, will you accept this situation ? No. The reason is simple. The entrant to your office will have a look on you first as he is entering your office from your left or right side. But the necessary requirement is that you should have a first look on the entrant rather than the other way round because the advantage of a fraction of a second which you will thus get will provide you an opportunity to read the body language of the entrant. You should have an edge over the eye ballcalibration. In view of the aforesaid, can we describe a Placement, Vaastu friendly, which otherwise goes against functional requirement and aesthetic sense ? Can Vaastu concepts be illogical and against reason and common sense? No. If we go through the ancient treatise of Samrangan Sutradhar, Mansara, Sthapatya Veda and the Maya Mattam, we will find that a Vaastu advise is a synthesis of space, time, individual, geometric axis and geomagnetic axis. Therefore, to say that we should always face the North-East while sitting in an office is grossly incorrect. But unfortunately, the scientific concepts of resonance between geomagnetic axis & geometric axis and aesthetic concepts of circulation area and ambience are not well understood. With a view to giving out a definite and unconfused plan of aligning the chair of the head of the office, we will have to set out the

Vaastu necessary requirements and the order of priorities in which they are to be adhered to. The first requirement is that your chair should have a solid wall behind it. The second requirement is to place your chair in such a way that you get a look of the entrant first rather than he having a look on you first ; this requirement has a sub section as well and that is that line of sight collimation should not be direct. It means that your chair should not be directly opposite to the entrance; it should have an offset, howsoever little it may be. The third requirement is that you should have preferably a pleasant view of the surroundings, traffic, water bodies and the greenery from your sitting position. We will also club the necessity of having adequate circulation area and freedom of movement in this requirement.

a The fourth requirement is that if there are more people sitting in the same office, the chair of the head of the office should be towards the South-West of the chairs of the sub-ordinates . The fifth and the final requirement is that you should face North-East. These requirements are in the order of priorities in which they have been mentioned. It can readily be conceded from the aforesaid that facing North-East gives additional benefits only after the necessities of having a solid wall behind, an energetic view in the front, a preferential look on the entrant and an adequate circulation area have been met with. We have so far finalised the position of the chair of the Head of any office in definite terms. Now the question arises what should be the size and type of the chair. And allied to it is the question of the type and size of the table. What should be the illumination intensity in

a the office, in general and on the table, in particular ? What type of sound vibrations should be introduced commensurate to the location and type of the office ? What all objects must be placed or introduced in the office to make the area vibrant, result oriented and conducive to both the Office Bearers and those who call on them? A very very brief answer just to the type and size of chair is given in the succeeding paragraphs. The chair of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) should not be revolving type. The revolving Chair has a metallic spindle which conducts the free negative charges vehemently present in the air owing to the electrical gadgets like inverter, stabiliser, computer, refrigerator ,Uninterrupted Power Supplier(UPS) etc. These electrons get conducted in our body. The Body conducts them to the Mother Earth. So far no harm done. But if we are relaxing on the chair for a long time when our metabolism is at rest and if it so happens regularly for a long period of about three to four months the conduction of free negative charges in to our Body, reduces our Resistance Power. We become more susceptible to catch diseases from the air and water. Our immunity declines. Therefore the Chair should be made of Wood. Now a question comes in is , that if it is necessary to have a revolving chair with a metallic spindle in view of the functional requirements ,should we sacrifice the functional convenience?. NO. There is no problem which is bigger than Man or there is no problem which does not have a solution. This chair should have the hand rests. Its back rest should be higher than the head of the CEO. A thought can be given here as to why the Back Rests of the Chairs of the Judges, Administrative Officers, King and the PATI-PATNI in a wedding reception are kept higher. Now coming to the making and material of the wooden chair. It is suggested that the wood of the chair must be from the same tree or in more general terms, of one type only. The reason is simple. The molecules of one tree or one mass , generally say hello to each other like the children of one mother are more akin to each other than other children. Formaldehyde or fevicol should generally not be used in making this special chair because they emit VOCs i.e Volatile Organic Compounds which are not compatible to the human system. Instead, BABUL KA GOND should be used. A word about the shape of the Chair. The Square and Rectangular shapes are good; they bring prosperity and earthly pleasures of life. However, to have harmony, a curve should necessarily be introduced one way or the other. But it is difficult to introduce a curve in the rectangular chair. What can be done is to have a curved head of the hand rest of the Chair i.e handle. Next question arises about the size of the Chair. The length or the breadth or the height should have a ratio inbuilt in them, called divine ratio. Divine ratio is called PHI and its value is 1.618 which can be approximated to 1.6. This corresponds to the spiral form in which the entire nature, our ear, our womb, the conch, the trees etc. are manifested.
