CBR LGBTIQ COMMUNITY CONSORTIUM The Consortium is a partnership of four agencies brought together by the common goal of ensuring health, wellbeing, access, social inclusion and equity within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) community. The Consortium is a robust, inclusive partnership demonstrating the ability of four Canberra based organisations to work together and build a strong foundation that supports the LGBTIQ community into the future. The Consortium will encourage and build resilience by harnessing the strengths and resources of the LGBTIQ community, including families, friends, supporters and allies. Working with their established services, the Consortium will further develop a comprehensive suite of programs for the LGBTIQ community in the ACT. This will be achieved through the collaboration of existing partners and stakeholders, while identifying and cultivating greater involvement of the LGBTIQ community, and engaging mainstream agencies, government, other community groups and business communities to achieve these goals.

THE AIDS ACTION COUNCIL
A PEER BASED, GRASS ROOTS ORGANISATION ACTIVELY WORKING IN THE ACT AND REGION WITH THE VISION OF CONNECTED AND SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITIES THAT ARE FREE OF NEW HIV TRANSMISSIONS, MARGINALISATION, DISCRIMINATION AND STIGMA. We work to help end HIV transmission by supporting access to testing, early treatment and promoting safe sex. The Council provides information, education and health promotion to support the whole community to understand HIV and its associated personal and social impacts. We run support groups, workshops, and workplace education sessions; offer counselling and peer support; and deliver a range of information services and events for the broader LGBTIQ community, including our much-loved annual Fair Day. Counselling is provided for all members of the community regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, cultural background, religious belief or economic circumstances. Through counselling we provide assessments, support, advocacy and referral for a range of issues including: coming to terms with your sexuality, emotional and physical health, relationships, employment, education and accommodation. Within the counselling service we prioritise:
Peer education workshops cover a range of topics and provide an opportunity to discuss issues that matter in a semi-structured, respectful and confidential environment. Recent workshops for gay, bisexual and same-sex attracted men have included: • Online safety
• People living with and/or impacted by HIV
• Mature Aged Gays Men’s Network (40+)
• People experiencing same sex domestic violence or homophobic violence
• Sex Positivity
• Sex and gender diverse individuals and their families
• Same sex relationship issues • Sexual identity issues
Here at the Council we are also lucky to house the Sex Worker Outreach Program (SWOP). SWOP educates sex workers about safe sex practices, and works to have easily accessible resources for culturally and linguistically diverse sex workers. SWOP also aims to change community perceptions of sex workers, and lobbies for legal frameworks and the eradication of discrimination against sex workers. You are welcome to drop in for a chat with the SWOP worker. Calling ahead is a good idea to make sure they are available.
• Genesis for newly diagnosed HIV positive Sex Positivity embodies a progressive attitude towards sex and pleasure. Advancements in the prevention and treatment of HIV present a meaningful opportunity to engage gay and bisexual men in new conversations about their health, supporting them in getting the sex they want. For women who identify as lesbian, bisexual and same-sex attracted we have our regular and very popular Stepping Out workshops. Workshops offered for the whole community are based on need and demand, and currently include financial literacy, mindfulness meditation, resume writing and legal issues. We believe peer education is a bedrock for educating, supporting and engaging with the community. We complement our peer-work with an evidence-based approach to ensure our programs and services are founded on latest research and respond to emerging needs of the communities we work with.

Whatever you do, you will be helping us look after the health and wellbeing of people in our communities.

A GENDER AGENDA A GENDER AGENDA IS A PEER-BASED COMMUNITY ORGANISATION THAT WORKS WITH, AND ADVOCATES FOR INTERSEX, TRANSGENDER AND GENDER DIVERSE PEOPLE. FRIENDS, FAMILIES AND ALLIES ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR COMMUNITY. Our Vision is for a world where intersex, transgender and gender diverse people live without discrimination or fear. AGA offers social support, information, advocacy and resources along with a regular calendar of events. We also provide training, education and policy advice services to organisations, educational institutions and government, as well as being involved with law reform. Our Program Calendar has a wide variety of community events ranging from workshops and discussion groups to community dinners and weekly drop-in sessions. We also facilitate regular youth and family’s groups. Through our programs, AGA is able to offer a safe place for members of the intersex, transgender and gender diverse communities in the ACT and surrounding regions to connect. We offer a number of resources that we regularly provide to services, organisations and individuals.

These resources include our popular ‘Gender Questioning Children’ brochure and our ‘Navigating Diversity’ booklet. We also have a small specialist library for members to utilise. You can get involved in A Gender Agenda in a lot of ways, and we welcome everyone who supports our Vision! By becoming a Member of AGA, you will receive regular updates on activities as well as receive our regular newsletter ‘Happenings’. Whilst we encourage membership, you do not have to be a member to access our services and programs. There are also volunteer opportunities with AGA. Our volunteers help out doing all sorts of things ranging from setting up for community dinners to running our library. AIDS GARDEN OF REFLECTION THE AIDS GARDEN OF REFLECTION IS A LIVING TRIBUTE TO THOSE LOST TO AIDS AND IN SUPPORT OF THOSE LIVING WITH HIV. Designed as a place of contemplation, the garden provides an opportunity for families, friends and supporters to honour those lost to HIV and AIDS, heal, reflect and develop hope. The garden provides a sense of calm and comfort, a special haven featuring a curving arbour with red flowering climbers and a shallow rock pond. A series of benches and rock seating arranged throughout the garden enable visitors to reflect individually, or in small gatherings.
