What’s the timeline / process of you receiving a job through to completion look like?

As I work for a residential builder the wider process of sign up, design, construction and handover typically takes 6-12 months. I am a small cog in a very large machine! In relation to my particular job, once a new job hits my desk, my time line is typically a few weeks. During this time I research my client’s needs and put ideas together, meet with them for a full day to select all fixtures and finishes for their new home and afterward document all items required and source custom items if needed. During this time I am also their main point of contact for anything design related.

What motivates you as a designer? Besides passion?…

Is there a product or design feature you regularly use within your projects?

We do the drop down bar feature as we are the only supplier who can design and build this product. We use a lot of LEDs and back lighting of marble in our designs to create a high end finish.

Are all-white, handle-less kitchens a thing of the past?

What coloured cabinetry is here to stay?

There will always be areas where white handleless kitchens suit the clients well, however with the handle range being so much broader than it was a couple of years ago, There has been a big shift away from entirely handless kitchens.

Neutral earthy tones as well as contrasting black, white, timber and textures are here to stay.

How do you see the kitchen cabinet industry evolving over the next 3 years?

I see the kitchen becoming a work of Art in the home.

Customers are very concerned about look over practicality as the Butlers Pantry is for the mess and work space. The kitchen is becoming a show piece.

I’m really in to modern farmhouse styles. Not only the aesthetics but the lifestyle. I love to slow down and want to encourage that lifestyle. I want people to feel joy, and enjoy the little things and moments. I truly believe a beautiful external environment helps to create and nurture a beautiful internal one. I want people to love the space they’re in and then be able to bring their best to the world.

Do handles warrant a budget? Or is it part of the overall cost of build?

The deserve a budget, especially in a high end kitchen. They are like the jewellery on the cabinets, and they need to work with the overall look so they are very important to get right, and sometimes this means “splurging” on handles!

With advanced designs in cabinet fixtures and hardware, which kitchen accessories are adorning your kitchen designs?

A lot of my clients are looking for a kitchen design that will not date, is beautiful and practical, so for me its all about satin cabinet doors in soft colours, durable bench top surfaces and stylish accent hardware that will complement and set off the design. Joinery handles in my mind are like jewellery to a little black dress, they complement and lift the room to the next level and should never be overlooked or underestimated.
