The Senior Epworth League will have a very interesting program this evening. Miss Flossie Barrineau will be the leader. There will be several special numbers; a quartet of young people from the First Baptist Church will sing, Miss Eula Hopf will play a piano solo, and Miss Charlotte Talley will play a violin solo.

The attendance at the League services has been very gratifying and we hope more of the young people will rally to the support of this League and its work.

The men of our church should not forget that the Men's Club will meet on its regular date in September-second Thursday night. A great deal of interest is going to be taken in that meeting, and every man in our church ought to be there. Watch for some big "doings".

The Sunday School of this church is probably the oldest Sunday School in the city. The first mention of it we find is in a letter written by the pastor, Dr. Cook, dated November 28, 1824. He has been here nearly a year, and is reporting the results of his work. He said: "We have also, lately commenced a Sunday School, particularly for the in­ struction of the colored population."

The next mention is in a letter written by the pastor, Rev. Chas.

Hardy, under date of April 30, 1827: "By the blessing of Divine Provi­ dence, I have succeeded in forming a Sabbath School society, and have a school of about forty children'. Several young persons have volmi.­ teered their services in this important undertaking. May the blessing of the Lord God be upon the institution and all connected with it."

So you see the ·young people early lent their aid to the church.

Yellow fever was epidemic in the citv during the fall of this year, and in another letter dated September 11th, he writes: "As the yellow fever assumed a malignant cast, and the most of Americans left the city, it was thought advisable that I should spend some time in the country. I accordingly, left town on the third inst., and shall not, it is probable, return until the approach of the cold sea­ son. The Sabbath School was continued, though under somewhat dis­ couraging circumstances until I was taken sick, and when I left town instructions were given, if possible, to continue it, but I think from the dispersed condition of the children that it will be discontinued until things become more settled."

On January 23, 1828 he writes: "The Sunday School is still running with an enrollment of sixty-six.

On August 6, 1828, the presiding elder Josiah Evans writes: · "As to Pensacola, we cannot say there seems to be much religion there, though we have a Sabbath School in operation, attended by from fifteen to thirty scholars."

The pastor that year was Isaac Boring. At the end of the year he wrote: "On Sunday December 14, 1828, I attended Sabbath School for the last time. The School numbers about twenty. May the Lord bless and preserve the children."

In 1830 the pastor was Rev. John W. Talley. On his arrival at Pen­ sacola, it is related that-"In the Sunday School, then a bright, young girl, was Miss Octavia Walton, afterwards Mrs. LeVert, whose mother was a member of the church there."

Following the mention of Junaluska in this bulletin recently, several of our members have gone there for their vacation. It is not too late yet for anyone who wishes to go, even if you do not care to take in any one of the meetings.

Remember the prayer meeting next Wednesday night.
