THE SPORTY H

ey guys, Seth from Doc’s Harley-Davidson bringing you some information on some of our new custom parts from Harley-Davidson.

First of all, we have have a full new line of customization for the Sportster models including clip-on handle bars, bar-end mirrors, and rear mount foot controls. Harley has really answered the call from all of their riders, the new rear sets are a must when you want that aggressive stance when you are blasting around town on your custom Sportster. When you pair the rear sets with the clip-on cafe style handle bars, the bar-end mirrors and some other slight modifications, you have a custom cafe bike of your very own.

Another addition to the line of customization for the new Milwaukee Eight touring line-up is the Stage 4 with Harley’s giant 64mm diameter throttle body, forcing air into either your 114ci or 117ci engine that is paired with Harley’s largest lift cam, the astonishing SE8-515, giving your touring bike the throttle response of a sport bike. When you pair the new Stage 4 kit with Harley’s new auto tuning module and the high performance exhaust system, the streets tremble when you come riding up. These are just some of the ways you can customize your new bike or add some more punch to your current custom creation. If you have any questions or ideas for customization come down to Doc’s Harley-Davidson and ask for Seth in Parts! We are open 7 days a week and always glad to help. Let’s build your dream bike! Rolling Into The

Welcome back Full Throttle readers and riders! Most of our

bikes have been logging way more miles than normal this winter if you could even call this a winter? There have been more than plenty of opportunities to hop on the sled this season! Temps have been regularly peaking in to the 60’s and 70’s providing some amazing riding in a time of year we should all be bundled up and freezing our butts off! This not so terrible global warming situation has forced me to bump my time table for completion up a bit, the full time riding season is closer than I expected and I want this thing ready to go when the temps stay consistent and fair! We last left off talking about making some motor changes, color changes, as well as upgrading the transmission to a hydraulic clutch from a standard cable pull.

while jamming through the gears!

This hydraulic clutch upgrade wasn’t something I was planning on doing but it made a lot of sense. Many of the new models are coming equipped from the factory to keep up with the times. We simply applied some parts from a 2014 Rushmore StreetGlide such as, the outer transmission door to accept the hydraulic fitting, the pushrod, and the adjuster as well as a few other components to convert my standard clutch and transmission to a “smooth like butta” hydraulic set up! This reduces clutch pull and very much gives you that dirt / sport bike like response

I really wanted this bike to handle and ride better than any other Harley-Davidson I had ever owned. My Café Sporty can cut the corners but with a built motor and a 2.1 gallon gas tank it didn’t get me far from home, about 55 miles to be precise! Having this King ride like it’s on rails was a must and the six gallon Street Glide tank would keep me on the road farther and longer!! That’s right! I’m ditching the traditional Road King tank with its fuel cap, fuel gauge, and speedometer to run a clean Street Glide tank including a Bagger Nation dash panel and gas cap to really lean out the tank and profile. Who needs a speedo and a gas gauge anyway? Most likely me at some point and time but until then, we shall see? Back to sticking it the road! As I said I’m looking to staying in the saddle longer and riding harder so I needed apply the right tires and suspension. I wanted that sport bike feel so I opted for some Avon Cobra AV 71’s. They are designed for the power cruiser/custom/touring market

and this tire incorporates sport bike like technology for nimble handling with incredible stability and longevity, not to mention they are very effective in the wet and have a killer tread pattern! Now that I’ve got some rubber to wrap the rims we move on to ditching; forgive me for saying this Motor Company, the antiquated leaky rear air shocks and replace the tired front end components. Now within the past model year Harley has really stepped up their suspension game big time! With emulsion style rear shocks and newly designed front end components the Bar & Shield have really bounced back in this area, pun intended. I however am a big fan of Legend Suspension set ups. They carry a life time warranty and are made in the U.S of A! In the back I would be rocking the Legend Revo-A’s, these shocks are great for any rider. Whether its comfort you’re looking for or absolute control like myself, this set up is fully dial-able to any situation with the turn of a knob when proper sag procedure is performed. For the front end I would be entrusting my well-being to the brand new Legend Aexo dual nitrogen cartridge shocks. These shocks feature an amazing internal floating piston set up with a performance spring ratio that delivers a sport bike like ride! No more nose dive and you won’t even feel the pot holes and imperfections in the road. Essentially what this kit does is turn the damn good looking telescopic Showa front end into an inverted fork set up by simply changing the internal components. There are way too many benefits to cover about these products in one article so stop by the St Charles Harley parts department and ask any one of our professionals. In fact three of the five guys on the counter run the same set up and love it. The riding season is gonna be here before we all know it and this build is in the home stretch! Hopefully this build will only require one more article. As we all know it’s sometimes the smallest details that can give you the biggest problems. Thanks for stopping by and y’all enjoy the ride! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

THE STEAM How’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here to give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles HarleyDavidson. Hope you all enjoy this article and looking forward to what spring brings us. The weather has been a roller coaster but we have really enjoyed some nice riding weather this year already. This month I want to feature a 2017 Milwaukee-Eight road glide special with a “Steam Roller” front end. The stance this bike gives will make everyone come up close as you roll into the next bike night with the wide front end. Now lets get to some of the things we did to make this bike look and ride like a dream. The front end is rolling on a RC Components Dynasty Accent Eclipse 18” front wheel. Along with an 180mm Avon front tire and a matching 16” 180mm rear tire. To make sure this bike had the ability to stop that tread on the road we installed a 13” matching RC Components Dynasty Eclipse rotor and a 6 piston caliper. With having a single sided caliper it really opens up the wheel so you can see all the beauty made into it. We wanted to show off as much of the wheel as we could so we went with a wrap around front fender that follows the top of the wheel perfect. As for the sliders and slider covers, they had to be notched and shaved to allow the clearance from the fender and the wide wheel.

M ROLLER

Written By Zach White

As you move from the front of the bike back you will see how we eliminated the engine guard to give it a slim overall appearance. We went with the Trask V-Line handlebars to really give that low almost drag bar look and feel. On the bars we used Harley-Davidson’s GetA-Grip grips and edge cut hand levers. We lowered the front of the bike with progressive lowering springs and for the rear with one of LA Chopper’s new lowering kit. This gives the low stealth appearance and amazing ride it needed. This bike even with the 180mm front tire handles amazing from cornering to highway riding and every bump in between. Make sure to come in a check out this St. Charles Harley-Davidson MilwaukeeEight Steam Roller. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and looking forward to what we have coming next month as we customize another Harley-Davidson. Please come into St. Charles HarleyDavidson and ask for me, Zach White or give me a call @ 636946-6487 and also by email zach@stcharlesharleydavidson. com to set up a consultation. I’m here to make all your HarleyDavidson dreams come true!

GOT SAGG A

re you constantly being told, you got saggy bags, as your riding around town? Are your friends always telling you, you’ve got to fix your saggy bag’s? This is a real problem, lucky for you Steve Walters, founder and President of Got Saggy Bag’s had this same problem about 15 years ago, when he purchased two Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classics. Steve and his wife Bobbi CEO couldn’t stand looking at their saggy bags, and it seemed like every day they got worse. Steve knew he had to create something to fix this problem. That’s just what he did. After toying around with the concept he had in mind, he really started to think this is going to work. He was cutting plastic sheets and forming them under the lid of the saddlebag. Then using adhesive to stick the plastic sheet he cut under the lid of the bag. Steve had enough material to make about eight of them, and that’s just what he did. He took all of them to a local motorcycle swap meet. He sold every one of them in about 45 minutes. That was amazing. He knew right then that this was his golden ticket. He could just feel it. But when he later told his wife and best friend this, they almost fell out of their chairs laughing. That quickly lit a fire under him. He not only thought he can help every person with this horrific problem he once had, but he can also prove his wife and best friend wrong.

Well, they weren’t laughing a year later. Steve had taken his idea and turned it into a full-fledged company called, Got Saggy Bags. They are 100% dedicated to helping every person that has the same problem Steve did 15 years ago, Saggy Bag’s. Steve and his wife Bobbi had to now make a huge decision. Were they going to leave there jobs they had and make this their full-time job? Yes, absolutely! They both quit their jobs at the time and put all their focus on Got Saggy Bag’s. After having a lot more time to concentrate on their business they came up with another brilliant idea. The saddlebag restoration system. They quickly got their system patented and were on the market. So you ask, What exactly is the saddlebag restoration system. It starts with the Perimeter Kit. The entire lower bag system is installed with the bags on the bike. The key to the lower bag system is using the internal seams, pockets, and crevices as pressure points to force the bags into a perfect shape.

Page 36

www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

GY BAGS???

Written By: Andrew Blanton

The Saggy Bags Front and Rear Inserts line the end surfaces, and force the misshapen end surfaces of the bags back into their original shape. Installing the Perimeter Strip over the inserts applies significant outward pressure, locking the front and rear inserts into place, while providing a full floor to the bag. Due to design, the Perimeter Strip applies significant outward pressure to the Front and Rear Inserts keeping the bag in a perfect shape. None of the lower bag components require adhesive, screws or rivets. They all lock into place by design. Next is the Support Rail, Adding the Support Rail to the edge of the bag opening completes the lower bag Installation. You will notice the bag opening is larger than prior to installation and totally reinforced. The side of the bag will no longer sag inward toward the fender. By design, the Support Rail self-locks over the edge. No adhesive is required. Next is the Lid Insert. Installing the Lid Insert to reshape the lid surface is the last step. It requires the use of E-6000 Industrial Strength Adhesive that is supplied with your System. The Lid Insert Installation is the only part of the system that requires the bags to be removed from the bike. Using adhesive for the lid insert insures the surface will remain smooth and flat. In all you will notice about 10% increase storage area in the lower bag due to it being held open to its fullest size. Half helmets’ will still fit through the bag opening. The total system weight for both bags is less than three pounds. There are two main purposes for the saddlebag restoration system. In new bags, the inserts will keep the bags from ever shrinking, sagging, or losing their original shape. In older bags, it will restore their original shape by utilizing the patented inserts as shapers and stiffener supports. The benefit is greater storage capacity, greater weight capacity, and to bring it to, or keep it at that showroom look for the rest of the bags life. Steve and Bobbi stand behind their product 100%. They offer a lifetime warranty on their materials. Yes, you read it right, a lifetime warranty. No one else in the industry offers a warranty like that. So, if you’re finally at your breaking point and sick of everyone telling you, you got saggy bag’s.
