NEW YEAR, NEW PRODUCT

he time we all have been waiting for is upon us. The all new 2020 product release has arrived and there are quite a few head turners coming our way. From new collections to some powerhouse performance parts; there’s bound to be something that catches your eye. The Screamin’ Eagle High-Flow exhaust with Street Cannon Mufflers is now offered in a couple of different variations. There have been so many occasions that we have been asked about a gloss black finish for an exhaust system. Well your requests have been heard and the High-Flow exhaust is now offered in gloss black! Combine the exhaust with the Slash Up/Down/Out- Gloss Black Muffler End Caps and your exhaust system is sure to have a beautiful custom look. Not into the blacked-out look? It’s all good. The system is also offered completely chromed out or in a Stainless-Steel header with Satin Black Mufflers. If you’re looking for an increase in performance for your 2017-later Touring model, you’re in luck. The Screamin’ Eagle Milwaukee-Eight Engine Stage IV 114CI or 117CI to 131CI has arrived. “Go big or go home. With the largest displacement of any Harley-Davidson® Stage Kit, this 114CI to 131CI Stage IV Kit was designed to deliver maximum horsepower – all the way to the redline. Packaged with patent-protected cylinder technology, it allows for the largest bolt-on engine upgrade to any MilwaukeeEight engine. Features new CNC-ported heads with 1mm bigger valves and fully machined combustion chambers. Coupled with the kit's high-lift SE8-517 cam, high compression pistons and a 64mm throttle body and intake manifold, this combination delivers a thrilling 131 ft-lb of torque and 121 HP rear-wheel output when paired with Screamin' Eagle® Street Cannon Mufflers. It’s designed to run wide open at high-end RPMs and provide a significant boost of torque from cruising speed. You’ll feel the difference as soon as you twist the throttle.” Only have a 107CI engine? No problem. Harley-Davidson has also released a 107CI to 128CI Screamin’ Eagle Milwaukee-Eight Engine Stage IV kit. “This Stage IV Kit was designed to deliver maximum horsepower – all the way to the redline. Features new CNC-ported heads with 1mm bigger valves and fully machined combustion chambers. Coupled with the kit's high-lift SE8-517 cam, high compression pistons and a 64mm throttle body and intake manifold, this combination delivers a thrilling 126 ft-lb of torque and 121 HP rear-wheel output when paired with Screamin' Eagle® Street Cannon Mufflers. It’s designed to run wide open at high-end RPMs and provide a significant boost of torque from cruising speed.”

I’d like to say hoorah and finally. We are past the December and January hump and spring is just that much closer. The last few weeks of winter always seem to drag on and on. I have said it before, I am not a winter person. I always question every year why I don’t live in a yearround warmer climate. The answer is always the same. I love being near all my family and I love the city I grew up in. With the first day of Spring less than 2 months away, I’m counting the days and ready to ride on a regular basis again. As we move closer to the spring season and with less than 60 days until the first Bike Night, we are working with our friends at Bobby’s Place in Valley Park to make this year’s Wednesday evening Bike Nights Bigger, Better and full of fun things to participate in each week. We would love to hear any thoughts you have on making “Historic Route 66 Bike Night” a better event and more fun. Please send me an email if you would like to make any suggestions. After all this night is put together for all of you, the riders. So, let me know your thoughts and any suggestions you might have. My email is publisher@fullthrottle-magazine.com. I always like to remind everyone that Lake Ozark Bikefest is the largest gathering of motorcycles in Missouri every year and this year promises bigger and better things. The event has grown year after year and everyone involved wants to thank all of you, the biking community for always coming out and supporting this event. Rooms at the lake are already starting to book up so make your reservations now so you have a guaranteed room at the best rate. If you look on Full Throttle Magazines Facebook there is a link to all the latest and best hotel room rates during Bikefest. Dates for this year’s event are Weds September 16th through Sunday September 20th. With so many things to do and see at the lake it’s my favorite bike event of the year. If you can’t have a great time at Bikefest you really can’t have a good time, period! Be sure to watch and “LIKE” our Facebook page to see the events and rides that are happening each week. We work hard to try and keep our site up to date with the rides, events and fun that’s going on. Check our Crusin’ Calendar in the magazine for a list of events and happenings also. As always, ride safe my friends and I will see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob

you. This all new collection is defined by its slotted design and high-tech, industrial look. The intense black rubber inserts on the controls are set against a matte graphite finish or black anodized finish that compliments black or bright finishes. Pieces of this collection include hand grips, foot pegs, rider footboards, brake pedal pad, brake lever, shifter peg, and shift lever. We have more good news for those of you looking for a blacked-out finish. The rest of the blacked-out Streamliner collection has finally arrived! The black Streamliner Hand Grips really look awesome. Did I mention they come in a heated version as well? The new additions of the collection also include the rider footboards passenger footboard and mount kit. Brake pedal, shifter peg, and of course foot pegs. Are you looking for a way to give your touring model a performance look? Or maybe you’re not a big fan of footboards. Well if you have a 2009- later Touring model you’re in luck. The all new Board-To-Peg conversion kit is here. This simple kit allows you to install foot pegs onto the RIDER position of your bike. There is also a Board-To-Peg conversion kit available for 2018- later Softail models that come equipped with floorboards from the factory. With all these new additions to the already massive offerings from HarleyDavidson for customization, there’s sure to be something that catches your eye. To find out more come in to Doc’s Harley-Davidson and talk to one of our Customization Specialists or give us a call at 314.965.0166. We’ll help you find that style or performance boost you’ve been looking for.

Chic Chat Special Edition W

ell, hello again. I hope everyone had a FANTABULOUS Holiday season. It’s crazy to think that we are already a month into 2020. As Barbara Walters would say, “This is 2020”. And as this year approached, I heard so many times… “There will be better vision in 2020”; yuk, yuk, yuk! But enough of that. My best friend and I were chatting the other day and she asked me if I was going to write another Chic Chat article. I told her that I jump in from time to time to say hello. But, it got me thinking….What if? So my brain starting turning a bit and I thought of something that might be of interest. Now, this IS a motorcycle and car magazine for sure…BUT, that does not mean that we are not sensitive in our feelings and emotions…right? A lot of us tend to hide that part of ourselves from the world because, heaven forbid, we seem vulnerable!

…….NEWS FLASH……

For you dudes reading this article……chic's dig men who are vulnerable. Think about it!

So that being said, here we go. The one thing that we all can relate to is “Are We Enough”? Are we enough at our jobs? Are we enough to our partners in life? Are we enough for our children? Are we enough to our friends? Are we enough to our parents? I can go on and on. Everyone needs that affirmation, that praise, that pat on the back. But what if those things never happen? What if you are in a situation and/or relationship that you never hear those words or experience those actions? What do you do? When you go through life, you are going to fail at one thing or another. That is a promise. Not to sound harsh…it’s just the truth. Whether it’s at your job, a marriage, school work, other relationships and so on; it will happen. When someone fails, it immediately catapults them into the feeling of, what’s wrong me? Did I not do enough and/or why am I NOT good enough? A sense of self-doubt sets in. But it’s Page 20

Are We Enough?

Written By: C. Blanton

what we do with that failed experience that can drastically change us. People in the world get their kicks by putting other people down. To be politically correct “Bullying”. Not to jump on the “Me too” band wagon, but bullying has always been and will always be. I do not believe any movement current or future will change that. But it’s how we react and/or respond to it that can make a change. In those situations you certainly will not receive praise or those kudos. But, what if there are other situations that are not as extreme? You have, what you consider, a good partner relationship. You do your job at work. You go out and have a few laughs with friends. You are raising your children to be good people. But no one ever really tells you that you are enough or even shows you the actions of affirmation. What kind of thoughts go through your mind. Do you start to have self-doubt? Do you start to think, who am I doing all this for? You start to have a bit of a pity party with a party of one….YOU! Yes, all those things can happen. And at one point or another through your life probably have. With all those different emotions that course through our veins , can put us on an emotional rollercoaster and all you want to do is get off that thing, run and hide. Unfortunately, that’s not reality. Facing down fears, adversity, change, bullies or anything else is a way to help and possibly heal that less than worthy feeling and attitude. Now please…don’t get me wrong here. Receiving kudos or affirmation from another is an unbelievable feeling of worth and there are moments in life that it’s just as important for the person speaking those words as it is for the person hearing them. Having that back and forth communication is vital in any relationship. What I’m referring to is having a high self-esteem, having confidence in yourself and speaking words like; I am good enough! I am worthy! I am a good person and is good to others, loves others and cares for others. I know I’m good at my job! I am a good husband/wife/parent/ friend! Holding yourself high and giving yourself praise is just as important as hearing that from others. Always remember, YOU hold the power to your own self-worth. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

How's it going Full Throttle readers? Zach White here to give you the latest

and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. This year has started off on a good note and we are looking forward to all the “BIG” things to come. Mother Nature has brought us a wintry mix, along with some very warm southern temperatures. It is crucial to check your tire’s PSI, add some fuel stabilizer in your tank, and plug that battery tender in. I know I say this a lot, but it’s something that can easily be forgotten. The last thing we want is flat spots on our tires, rough running conditions, and the worst, on that nice winter day the “click, click, click” when you hit the start button. This month at the dealership we keep the dead of winter a little more enjoyable with a variety of events and workshops. We start off the month with a “Stop the Bleed” class on Saturday February 1st @ 9am. If you haven’t made it to one of these potentially life-saving classes make sure you call Sandy to sign up. I got the privilege of taking one last year and highly recommend it.

I will be hosting our last two seminars for the season. Saturday February 8th @ 10am I will educate you on Tires & Suspension. On Saturday the 22nd @ 10am, I’ll finish off the seminar season with New Aftermarket products. I was able to go check out what the leading companies are bringing to the table for 2020 and I’m ready to share that knowledge with you. We will welcome a couple top leading sales reps from the aftermarket world for this seminar as well. Be sure to RSVP with myself or Sandy. Last, but definitely not least, we have a special event that's just for the ladies. On Thursday February 20th we will have our annual “Ladies Intro to Motorcycling” event from 6pm-8pm. The first 200 ladies will get a wine glass & charm. Bring a friend to be entered for a chance to win a $200 gift card for yourself and a free riders training class for your friend. We will also have free food & drinks. Get here early and let the fun begin. Alright, now let’s get down to some of the other “BIG” things to come. As most of you know on July 18th, 2019 things got a little hot at Big St. Charles Motorsports. Our Motorsports service department caught fire and couldn’t get under control. The fire was so hot that it melted bikes, tools, and just about anything it came in contact with. Luckily, the fire itself didn’t spread past our service department, thanks to the amazing heroes who worked so hard to stop it. What did escape past the service department was the smoke, which totaled just about everything in its path, including bikes, parts, and clothing. With the quick thinking of our HarleyDavidson Sales Manager, he was able to shut the doors from Motorsports to Harley and stuff blankets and towels in the vents to keep the smoke out of the Harley building. If he hadn’t done that, things could have been way worse. We have all been working under the Harley building and parking lot for the past 6 months. Things have been tight and we have got to know each other really well; maybe a little more than some would have liked. Thankfully, business went on as normal as possible and no one was out of work during the reconstruction. We have

become a stronger family in the Motorsports world and stood beside each other to keep the business running. We can’t thank everyone enough for the patience as we rebuilt. We know it hasn’t been the smoothest transition, but we got through it and now we are ready to keep pushing forward. After the holiday rush, we could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Things started coming together quicker than ever. Some long days and nights were put in by employees & the construction crew to get the showroom ready. We had a deadline and one BIG party we planned for the return of the Supercross races in St. Louis. As many of you know, we made that deadline, and had a soft opening and Supercross pre-party and autograph signing on January 10th. It felt so good to see customers in the Motorsports building again, and we enjoyed all the compliments on how great things are looking. After the Supercross party we knew we still had a little more work to be done before we could officially open. With everyone working in full force, we completed the job. On January 16th, we had our inspections and got the sign of approval to officially reopen Big St. Charles Motorsports. If you haven’t by to check it out yet, I personally invite you to. It is bigger and better than ever! We are hoping to open the redesigned Indian Building this month. We will still be running Indian out of the Motorsports building until then. Our Motorsports service department took on the major damage, which has caused it to be completely rebuilt. It will most likely be late Spring before that project is complete. It will also be bigger and better than ever before. In the meantime, all service will still be run out of the Harley building. It has been a long 6 months, but we got through it all as a team! Come in and check out the new Big St. Charles Motorsports building and let us know what you think. We will be having a Grand Reopening after the Service Department is complete. Thank you all for helping us get through this together. We know the parking and building itself on the Harley side has been a little hectic. We made it through the hardest part and now we’re ready for Spring and the riding season. Thanks again for taking the time to read this. If you come to St. Charles Harley-Davidson, be sure to ask for me, Zach White. n 1964, American auto manufactures were rolling out cars in the millions. They offered sports cars such as the iconic Corvette, land cruisers and luxury models to your hearts content, but something was missing, a muscle car. John DeLorean, Pontiac’s Chief Design Engineer saw this need, but as usual, the shirt and ties of GM had in place a clause that “no big engines in small cars” were to be a stand alone car. Well, he figured a way around that using the mid line Tempest. As an option of $295, the 389cid/325hp package became available, labeled as GTO. A mid size car with bigger motor and now a grand touring production car ushered in a new era, the muscle car was born. The car here is kind of a rare treat in its own right, a 1964 Pontiac Tempest Custom convertible owned by Charlie and Cathy Davis of Brighton, IL. Purchased new in 1965 at Quality Pontiac in Alton, IL, as a leftover model, Charlie’s mom and dad had a cool car. This is the car that Charlie learned how to drive in, as did Cathy at a later time. As time goes, unfortunately they lost Charlie’s dad and the car was sold to Charlie for a dollar. Charlie and Cathy used the car as a family, daily driver for many years, but as a lot of things in life, repairs and family happens. The car was not forgotten, but put to the side as life moved on. After raising the children and progressing in this thing we call “life,” Cathy began to encourage Charlie in fixing up the old car. He was able to get the mechanical portion of the car in sound order, but the exterior/interior was out of his realm. He sought opinions from people about where to take it and who would do the best work for the dollar. After several interviews and estimates, he chose Tony’s Rod and Custom. The car had rust in the typical places of GM cars of that era, but what was scary here, as Charlie was driving it to Tony’s, he felt part of the frame give way up front and limped it there without further damage. This project started out as a frame on restoration, with the typical processes of disassemble, bag and tag of parts, remove interior and all exterior trim, plus convertible top. With the interior out along with the carpet, the rusted floors were exposed and repair work began. Charlie and Cathy came out to see progress and made a request. He knew that it may take points away at a shows, but that didn’t bother him. He asked, if the melted spot on the dash bezel could be left that way, clean the knobs of the dash to the best of their ability and restore the steering wheel? Puzzled, Tony had to know more. Charlie proceeded to tell about how his mother left a lit cigarette in the ashtray and had a small fire that melted the lower part of the bezel. The knobs and steering wheel are the items that his mom and dad

had their hands on and he wanted to know that they were still with them after all these years. As he said, “Once you replace with new after market pieces, their gone.” This was challenging, but well worth it and a true testimony that automobiles are still a part of our families. With the rust repair coming along well and all the panels getting massaged, the look on both of their faces when they would visit, told it all. They could see the Tempest Custom coming back to life. Now that the bad frame section was repaired, the front clip was able to be removed. Repainting the engine and engine bay area was not part of the original plan, but with everything out of the way, it only made sense to do it now. When they came in to check on the progress, they both shed a tear seeing a new looking engine and bay area. This is what it is all about. After many hours of sanding, primer and more sanding, the body was then prepped and ready to be covered with the Martin Senour Cameo Ivory single stage urethane. It’s hard to get a clean undistorted reflection in a white color, but this one has it. After all of the color sanding and buffing stages were completed, they were elated with what was in front of them. Charlie then asks, “Can the frame and bottom of the car be cleaned and painted, since everything else looks so good?” He at least knew this was scope work and will make for a better restoration, so it was done and the results were well worth it. As the final assembly began taking place, a situation with the body molding arose. Seems the trim is not reproduced for the Tempest Custom model, therefore it had to be restored. Knowing this would be a huge cost to send off, be repaired and re-anodized, Tony came up with a solution. He repaired the dents and flat spots, then sprayed all of the aluminum trim pieces in Mercedes Benz silver. It gave all of the trim a consistent look and from 10 ft away, you wouldn’t know it was painted. With re-assembly going well, the two-toned red interior was looking sharp. Tony’s refurbished the seat frames and tracks, then covered with new foam and vinyl coverings. The last hurdle of this build was the convertible top!!! Unfortunately, the upholstery shop did not show up, so Tony decided to tackle the job. Lots of reading and watching videos helped in this process. This is no easy process and well worth the money for the pro’s to do. Not one to compromise, the top fits extremely well and helps set it off when the top is up, but that is not very often. All of the stainless steel trim was then sanded and polished back to a new shinny luster. This is a very simple 326cid, 2-speed power glide trans Pontiac Tempest Custom convertible that has brought many years of enjoyment to the whole family. Now, that Charlie and Cathy are retired, they enjoy taking the car out to cruises and shows sharing their story to other car enthusiasts alike. The car has done well at POCI (Pontiac/Oakland Club International) events along with local shows. It was also a Featured Car at the HRIA (Hot Rod Industry Alliance) trade show in Indianapolis. Dennis Gage of My Classic Car TV program stopped by to talk with Charlie and commented “With all of the cars I have seen in my lifetime and I’m a Pontiac guy, I’ve never seen a Tempest Custom convertible, now I have.” Charlie has maintained all of the mechanicals, so it will be able to have many more years of family enjoyment. God Bless!!! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
