Just finished the weekend of the STL Motorcycle show and had a blast. The weather tried to hamper things but most people came out and found the show to be a great experience. One of my favorite things about the show is the Vintage Bike display. I’m a sucker for the old bikes and especially if there’s a springer front end involved.

There was a great showing this year of the Vintage bikes and it brought back some great old memories of riding some of those same bikes. We are already looking forward to next year’s show and we thank Joe and Michelle Rusch for making this show happen.

We are working our way through the winter months and it can’t be over soon enough for me. Even though we have not had a terrible winter I just am not the winter type. I’ll take 90 and sunny any day over the cold and drab winter days. We have begun to get things organized for the “Historic Route 66 Bike Night” that will be happening on Weds nights at Bobby’s Place in Valley Park starting in April. There will lots of new things going on there this year with free drinks, weekly give a ways and special events throughout the summer that we will tell you more about as we get closer to the spring. We are confident this is the place you’ll want to be every Weds night for the best weekly bike night in town. Watch for more details soon and check out the “Historic Route 66 Bike Night” Facebook page to stay informed. I look forward to seeing you there.

I assume everyone has seen the news that Victory is no longer manufacturing bikes. The parent company Polaris has made the decision to stop production of Victory to concentrate on their Indian Motorcycle brand. Polaris will continue to supply parts for a ten years period, along with providing service and warranty coverage to Victory dealers and owners. “This was an incredibly difficult decision for me, my team and the Polaris Board of Directors,” said Polaris Industries Chairman and CEO Scott Wine. “Over the past 18 years, we have invested not only resources, but our hearts and souls, into forging the Victory Motorcycles brand, and we are exceptionally proud of what our team has accomplished”. Polaris stated it was the incapacity to gain a profitable market share the reason that made Polaris shut down its motorcycle brand. Although I have never personally owned a Victory I am always sadden to see an American Motorcycle Manufactures throw in the towel. Our best to Polaris and their Indian Motorcycles, which I do really like. I have owned a few Indians over the course of my many years of riding and collecting.

It is incredibly eye-catching, to say the least! What a stunner! The Legacy Limited paint set with all of its splendor is impeccable, with just the right amount of metal flake and flowing with beautiful smokey graphics tracing from the front fender all the way to the rear fender.

elcome back Full Throttle readers and riders! January has come and gone with only a few ice storms to speak of. Most everybody is booking the hot spots and pre ordering Valentine’s Day roses as the day approaches but as for me? All I can think about is that spring is only 65 days, 13 hours, 5 minutes, and 39 seconds to the very moment I put these words to the keyboard. Cleary my wife knows I’m joking! I was nice enough to book us a table at the White Castle, very romantic! Not true but funny.

I left y’all hanging last month as I struggled to wrap my head around the build I had envisioned in my head. As I had mentioned, it needed to be the “Swiss Army” knife of motorcycles. I tend to ride to work daily weather permitting, so having some bags on this Road King was nice, I also wanted something with some pep and that is fun to ride. I’m not looking to be the fasted bike out there but I was wanting a powerful motor that would take me quickly on the highways as well as the Missouri back roads. And speaking of the back roads I would need a suspension system that could handle my aggressive riding style but most importantly she also had to be drop dead gorgeous while doing so.

Our technician Kyle and I rolled the bike up on the lift sometime in late November. We started by removing all the paint and sent it off to Liquid Illusions to be completely redone.

This left a sad naked frame and motor. There was no reason to stop there so the tear down was continued right down to removing the case covers, front end and about a hundred others pieces to be powder coated black at Gateway Powder Coater. What exactly is powder coating you ask?

Powder coating is great alternative to simple paint and in fact is far more resilient. Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free flowing dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a “skin.” Because powder coating does not have a liquid carrier, it can produce thicker coatings than conventional liquid coatings without running and sagging.

You can have any color in the rainbow you want but I went with black on black like Johnny Cash on most of my parts. I’ll be throwing some color in there as well but that’s a surprise for later as she come together.

the rocker boxes, cylinders, pistons, primary covers and cam box. As I said before I wasn’t looking to be the fasted but I did not want a displacement bump and have a little fun! I opted for the Screaming Eagle High Compression 103 Pistons for some torque and added a SE SE259 cam to the cam box. This cam is designed specifically for EFI (electric fuel injection) models and has proved tried and true from in the factory in the stage 4 kit from Screaming Eagle. I upgraded the springs and tappets while the heads and cam box were apart. After putting together the motor components I had to have the right pipe and air cleaner to flow with the motor! I opted to go with the Cobra Power Flo air cleaner accompanied by their black 2-1 pipe for optimum performance. Not to mention they both look amazing on the bike! After all this goes together Ill have Dave our Dyno tech do his work to complete the motor build, luckily I was able to get the original Screaming Eagle race tuner for my build before they went the way of the dinosaur.

While the primary cover was off Kyle recommended I go ahead and upgrade the compensator sprocket and I wanted to throw some Screaming Eagle clutch plates into the clutch basket. As we talked about the transmission and whether or not it needed any love an interesting question came up? Would I want a hydraulic clutch? I mean it was a great point? It meant less clutch handle effort, a cleaner look at the handle bar, and minimal cabling. I had cemented in my mind that I wanted a super clean look. We went about ordering all the hydraulic components needed from a later model touring model and applied it to the bike.

As she sits waiting for the rest of the powder coating and the bars to be completed there are a few more kinks in this bike to work out with only 60 some odd days left to go. I’ve yet to fill y’all in on every detail but the build is still in process and is in the home stretch. After she all goes together the hard part comes into play; the fine details. How’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here to give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. Hope you enjoy this article and looking forward to many more! The 2017 year has started with the 3rd annual St. Louis Motorcycle Show January 14th & 15th at the America’s Center inside the Dome.

It was a great turn out with the weather that was in the area. It’s always great to see new and old clients and friends. Thank you to all that stopped by to say hello.

Let’s get on to the article and talk about one of our builds from the motorcycle show.

This bike started off as a 2017 softail slim. We have been brain storming for the past few months on putting a springer front end on one. After a lot of yes and no back and forth we went for it and WOW! Harley-Davidson has had several different springer’s throughout the years but the last was in 2011, the Cross Bones. Which is one of my favorite springer’s they came out with but my all time favorite was in production from 1995-1997 and that was the bad boy. Both of these springer’s had black springer front ends with a touch of chrome. These two bikes where in the back of my head as we all brain stormed on what all was going to be done to bring out the “old school” and still keep the new in it.

We decided to stick the skinny 21” front wheel and black springer front end with some chrome accents. Instead of running the headlight on the top of the shock we went to the bottom to give it some clean lines from front to back. The narrow base of the ape hanger handle bars with a 90 degree point at the bottom but the traditional old school round curve at the top was the perfect fit for what we had in mind. As for the exhaust and air cleaner we went back a forth with a few different options before we decided with the black round air cleaner and some clean up sweep black exhaust. This bike from front to back is in my eyes everything you would want out of a springer and so much more. So now I have a new favorite springer and that is the all new 2017 St. Charles Harley-Davidson Slim Springer!

Come in and check this bike out and as one goes we will be building another that will always have a different look to it. There’s An ALI

There is an invasion taking St. Charles and the surrounding areas by

storm. This is no Sci-Fi movie or Fiction story made up in a Hollywood think tank. Sitting snug and cozy in a strip mall that resides just in front of St Andrews cinema is a small shop that will abduct your senses. As you draw closer your palms will sweat with anticipation. Your eyes will widen.

Your mouth will begin to water. Your stride will increase to almost a run.

You pull open the door and an explosion of sensory overload hits you in a matter of seconds. You have entered in to the newest and most promising tactical gear and gun shop St Charles County has ever known. You have entered – Alien Armory Tactical.

Upon entering you will be positively amazed at how many items can fit into this store. There are rifle bags, custom shirts, jackets, toy crossbows, nun chucks, duffel bags and tactical gear galore. Need a morale patch for your plate carrier or tactical vest – done. Don’t have a tactical vest for your new morale patch – look no further. While you may be taken in by all the gear and accessories, the true amazement comes from behind the counter. Here you will find the most brilliantly designed AR-15’s you have ever laid eyes on. We’ll get into more detail about those later.

The true guts of Alien Armory Tactical comes in the form of Frank and Dustin Bahr. These two cousins have spent the better part of a decade custom building AR’s to centerpiece at gun shows from St. Charles to Kansas City. Their passion and desire to expand became larger than an average gun show booth could hold, so they set out to open a store that would both showcase their work and offer gear and firearms to those who share their passion. They not only have an array of firearms from Glock, CZ, Springfield Armory, Sig Sauer, SCCY, and Smith and Wesson (to name a few), but offer them at prices that cannot be beat and are comparable to internet distributors.

“Alien Armory Tactical is successful because of our supporters” states Dustin. And there is no lack of support for these two. Good friends and family take time from their schedules to come by and help out with customers, sales, and firearm repairs daily. Doelan Wilcox, a fellow FFL holder and longtime friend, runs his own business but still volunteers at the store and gun shows. Doelan brings a lifetime of firearm experience to the table allowing him to work with customers to find the right firearm to fit their needs and wants. Travis Rife is another longtime friend and fellow firearm builder who volunteers his time. The list of friends and supporters does not stop there. Robert Murphy spends a good portion of his down time helping out at the shop and gun shows as well. He loves the builds, the products, and helping out customers with selecting gear, accessories, and firearms. “It’s like being in the ultimate man cave” he says. His broad range of firearm knowledge surpasses that of most manufacturers making him a valued addition to the team.

The next two individuals are more than just supporters, they are also supported by Alien Armory. Bridgette Miller and Steve Forrest are competition shooters that compete in USPSA, IDPA, and 3 Gun matches every month both locally and out of state. They recently returned from Florida where at the Limited Nationals they competed against more than 300 of the World’s best shooters. Before they even opened their doors, Dustin and Frank reached out to

Bridgette and Steve to discuss the sport and how they can contribute. After a brief meeting the Alien Armory Tactical Shooting Team was formed. In addition to being competitive shooters, Bridgette and Steve are also NRA certified pistol instructors. They will be offering classes on basic pistol knowledge and marksmanship for all novice gun owners and by summer will be offering CCW classes as well.

Now let’s get back to those brilliant AR builds. Frank and Dustin do not skimp when it comes to creating every rifle you see hanging on their wall, and no two are alike. These masterpieces are created using some of the finest products in the industry such as Alex Pro Firearms (APF), Odin Works, Rise Armament, Fortis, and Spike’s Tactical to name a few. Each AR-15 is assembled by hand and on-site. No outsourcing here. While a titanium or nickel-boron bolt combined with a stainless-steel barrel and skeletonized hand-grip may look outstanding, the real artistry comes when a special paint, or Cerakote, is applied. This is where the personality of the firearm is created and the life is breathed into it. This is where the standard, ordinary, black rifle becomes its own entity. Applying Cerakote is no easy task and requires the mind of an artist combined with the hand of a craftsman. Dustin and Frank take no chances and leFT this in the hands of true professionals David Tucker and Nick Wedemeier.

David and Nick can trace their love of firearms back to their childhood. Nick is a true patriot having served in the US Army and has since retired after being wounded in the line of duty. David was introduced to firearms by his grandfather and like so many gun loving Americans, his passion grew rapidly throughout the years. Being involved in the firearms industry was not enough for them. They wanted to do something that set them apart from others.

They not only set themselves apart – they set the standards. This duo turns out the sickest Cerakote designs you will ever see. Cerakote is a state-of-the-art Polymer-Ceramic composite that can be applied to surfaces like plastic, wood, metal, and polymer to create a near indestructible coating. It is available in a multitude of colors which allows David and Nick to tap the absolute depths of their imagination to create anything from one solid color to multiple colored battle worn designs. If you can imagine it, David and Nick can make it happen. They have worked alongside Dustin and Frank for numerous years creating the most badass collection of Cerakote and stippled firearms the industry has ever seen.

Dustin and Frank feel truly blessed to have achieved the success they have seen throughout their time designing and selling firearms so they only feel it necessary to give back where they can. Alien Armory’s primary charity they contribute to is Backstoppers. Backstoppers is an organization that contributes to the families of fallen or catastrophically injured police officers, firefighters, volunteer firefighters, and publicly-funded paramedics and EMTs. Frank, Dustin, and their team are in the process of building two custom AR’s that will be themed after the brave men and women of Law Enforcement and Firefighters. They will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to Backstoppers.

TILTING MO If you are in the market for a new trike, Full Throttle Magazine

wants to inform you about one of the newest, hottest, three-wheeled innovations in the motorcycle industry. It’s the Trio 3-wheel conversion by Tilting Motor Works. Gene’s Gallery in Springfield, MO is one of the first dealerships in the country to sell the conversion kits, for install by their factory-certified technicians. If you’ve never heard of Tilting Motor Works, this article is a perfect read for you. What sets them apart from the rest is, dual wheels are placed in front instead of in back like a traditional trike, and they lean. So the Trio offers many of the stability and safety benefits of three wheels, without sacrificing the handling and countersteering of a traditional motorcycle.

The lean is the thing. A trike that can’t lean into turns, or even a Can-Am Spyder, requires much more reach and strength to operate than a motorcycle. Both the rider and the passenger have to fight centrifugal forces when cornering, and that can get exhausting. While some gung-ho riders don’t mind wrestling a regular trike or a Spyder through the turns, many people find they just can’t ride comfortably at the same speeds they did before, and they have trouble keeping up with their 2-wheeled friends.

Riding a Trio is effortless by comparison. Like a 2-wheeler, it takes just a nudge to initiate a turn. Because the front wheels ride on rounded motorcycle rubber instead of car tires, the rolling resistance and pavement noise are much reduced. And when you really need that extra rubber on the road, this vehicle shines.

Coming downhill into a turn on a regular trike can be hair-raising, since you only have one contact patch up front to redirect a 1200lb vehicle and another few pounds of rider. With the Trio you feel more secure, with the extra rubber up front where you need it, both when turning and when braking. The coaxial suspension is a neat bonus, sucking up some big hits with minimal impact to the rider, little handlebar feedback and no fork dive.

Because of the performance benefits, the best way to make a trike that leans is to put the third wheel up front.

Sounds easy, right? Well, it’s not. Harley-Davidson itself tried for 5 years and 5 generations of prototypes before giving up and parking its Penster project in the museum. The tricky part is to make both front wheels tilt in tandem. That’s exactly what founder and CEO Bob Mighell set out to create with the Trio, and Tilting Motor Works has been successful in patenting the key aspects of the geometry that make it possible.

A lifelong powersports enthusiast, CEO Bob Mighell made his first ride across the United States at the age of 18 to study mechanical engineering at Dartmouth’s Thayer School of Engineering. Later he obtained his MBA at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. He is the founder of World Medical Equipment as well, and in 2012 and 2013 he set successive world speed records for 3-wheelers at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah using a Tilting Motor Works front end.

Gene’s Gallery is one of the first three dealerships in the U.S to sell and install the Trio. Gregg McNabb, owner of Gene’s Galley, first heard of TMW from a friend at the Route 66 Bike Show. Gregg was very interested in the kit and how it worked, so he started doing some research on the internet—and the more he read, the more TMW piqued his interest. He really liked the fact that 9 out of 10 of these kits were sold to Harley Davidson owners.

Gene’s Gallery has always sold a high volume of Honda Goldwings and other metric bikes, and this allowed him to get into the Harley Davidson market as well. While a lot of Harley guys feel self-conscious puttering around on a regular trike, they’re embracing the narrower profile, the speed and the performance benefits of the Trio.

Gregg also really liked that it handles just like a traditional motorcycle. This had never been achieved on a heavy touring motorcycle, and it sounded almost impossible to many motorcycle enthusiasts. There are a couple of small, very light 3-wheeled scooters that lean, but not a 900 pound Harley Electra Glide. Gregg knew right away that if these kits performed like they said that he wanted to get involved. So Gregg got in contact with TMW and sent his technician off to Snohomish, WA to get certified. When his technician returned, Gene’s Gallery was officially in the TMW Dealer Network. Gregg couldn’t have been happier.

If you are interested in the Trio, Gene’s Gallery sells and installs two different kits. The standard kit is $9,995 plus about $800 installation. The advanced kit it $12,995 plus about $1,000 installation. The difference in these two kits is that the advanced kit is equipped with TiltLock. The TiltLock feature is switchable; when switched on, it keeps the bike vertical at speeds below about 6 mph or when stopped. It releases automatically as you get under way, so you don’t have to keep switching it on and off all the time. With TiltLock, riders don’t have to put their feet down at a stop or support the weight of the bike. It’s great in stop-and-go traffic too, like at a motorcycle rally, because you can tool along at low speed without throttling up and down and putting your feet down all the time.

When the TiltLock feature is switched off, the Trio can fall over. If you have trouble, it’s likely to happen in a slow-speed parking-lot maneuver when you start leaning into a turn and don’t give it enough throttle. Of course your 2-wheeler will go down too if you ride it that way, so it’s probably just a matter of training yourself to remember that 3 wheels don’t mean the rig stands up by itself. If you do drop the bike, it usually only goes over about 45 degrees before coming to rest on a floorboard or a crash bar. With TiltLock the bike can even stand itself back up again from that position.

The current production unit is designed to fit all models in Harley-Davidson’s Touring line including the Road King, Road Glide, Street Glide and Electra Glide models. TMW is also equipped to handle many Softails, such as the Heritage Softail Classic, the Softail Deluxe and the Fat Boy, and even the occasional Dyna or V-rod.

Gene’s Gallery can also convert the Honda Gold Wing GL1800 and the F6B. Other bikes will come online over time.

They say if you don’t look below the handlebars while you are riding, you wouldn’t even know that there are two wheels up front. The Trio rides exactly like a traditional motorcycle, with a lot of added safety and performance benefits.
