LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER The summer seems to be flying by too fast. We just wrapped up our 7th annual GGG and thank everyone who attended. The weather was certainly a humid and hot one but everyone had a great time despite that. Dee Rock and the band weathered the heat to lay down an awesome day of music. All the vendors showed their goods and had a great day. The bike and car show contestants were troopers, hanging in there all day to get their trophies. We look forward each year to this event and the fact that we can donate money to one of the greatest groups around, Bikers Against Child Abuse. I want to also recognize our good friend Mayor Mark Furrer for all the extra work he does to help make GGG a great success. And certainly not last, we want to thank the great line-up of Sponsors for this year’s event. Ferguson Roofing, Doc’s Harley Davidson, Gieco St Charles Office, Handlebars, Halfway Haus and Event Partners. I want to give a big thank you to our sponsor Sunset Ford who has been an awesome group to allow us to use their facility for the event for the 4th year. Keep an eye out for details about next year’s 8th Annual GGG. It will be here before you know it. I hope everyone is planning on attending this year’s Bikefest at Lake of the Ozarks. Tan Tara is offering special rooms rates while the rooms last so be sure to call them and mention Full Throttle for a discounted rate. We will have our Vendor Village set-up at the Famous “Dog Days” right on the lake. If you are vendor and want to be at the only Vendor Village on the Lake, email me or call today because there are only a few spots remaining. This will be a great year to make the rally. I have already been assured the weather will be perfect and the fun will be plentiful. Also remember to pick up your Passport book for a chance to win a Brand New 2015 Harley Davison Breakout Motorcycle. Cindy and I will be leaving for Sturgis at the end of July and will bring back lots of pictures and stories for everyone to enjoy. We have been going to Sturgis for over 14 years now and enjoy the riding and all the great people we get to meet. Although this is a work trip we also consider it a vacation and we are certainly looking forward to the time on the bikes and the fabulous riding that South Dakota has to offer. If you are planning on going to Sturgis we certainly hope you enjoy the trip as much as we always do. Remember to ride safe and be aware of your surroundings there. As always my friends, ride safe and see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine.

Sorry Boys, No Men Allowed!

Ashley Fiolek Motocross Racer

Throughout the last several months, I have been publishing various articles and information about many different women who have shaped and influenced women and motorcycles and how they are perceived in today’s world. Bring it forward to modern times, because of those women in motorcycle history, young girls like Ashley Fiolek could fulfill a lifelong dream. What makes Ashley’s story so special is the fact that she is completely deaf. She was born without her hearing, in 1990 in Deerborn, Michigan. Even without her hearing, this did not hold her back. At the very young age of three years old, her parents put her on a Yamaha PW50 with training wheels. With the guidance and supervision of her parents, she started learning how to manipulate and manage the bike. At the age of seven, she began racing. Throughout her young life she worked very hard developing her speed and agility around the dirt tracks. At the age of 18, she was the 2008 WMX Pro National Champion after her first professional win at the WMX Pro National Hangtown. She continued competing in many races throughout the following season in 2009, winning races that included Moto 1 at Hangtown and the Moto’s at Glen Helen. She even went back to compete in the 2009 WMX Pro National Championship at Steel City Raceway in Delmont, PA, finishing seventh with a fractured collarbone due to a fall during the race. She took that championship home again in 2011. In 2012 she crashed and suffered a concussion and broken tail bone. After a short time off to recover, she was back in the saddle again competing at RedBud MX in Buchanan, Michigan, going after her next title, which she took overall.

Page 8 www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

Following that championship, she took two more; one in Washougal, WA and one in Southwick, MA; then, took home the 2012 Pro National Championship at Lake Elsinore, CA. Ashley, at such a young age, accomplished so much. In 2008 she was the first female motocross racer to make the cover of the TransWorld Motocross magazine. She became the first female to be signed to the American Honda Racing Factory team and was nominated for an ESPN ESPY Award. At the age of twenty she published her autobiography, “Kicking Up Dirt”, co-written with Caroline Ryder. In 2011 she and her motocross riding were featured in a Red Bull commercial. Ashley was the 6th athlete ever sponsored by Red Bull to appear in a commercial advertising their energy drinks.

presented a TEDx Talk.

In 2012 she was also featured in an issue of Vogue magazine and was

Ashley retired from the competitive sport in 2012 due to the fact she longer felt as if this sport was giving woman the support needed for them to compete. Since retirement she appeared on Conan and in an episode of Switched At Birth, as a motocross racer who develops an interest in the main character. In July 2014 she began working as a motorcycle stunt performer for a touring Marvel Universe Live show. Life, even at the smallest of measurement, can be so grand. Now at 25 years old, Ashley has accomplished so much despite her handicap; a does not look back with any regrets. Written By: C. Blanton

ver the years you’ve seen this car at all the cruises and shows, and photos of it have appeared in several magazines. But never has a breakdown of what’s behind this gasser

This is definitely one car you cannot pick your nose in while driving down the road, because someone is ALWAYS looking, trying to figure out what the hell it is! Being so compact and light, yet having ass to boot; it does big wheelies and scares the living shit out of people who ride in it. I’ve witnessed this first hand! At 11 feet long and 4 ½ feet wide, weighing 1900 lbs with est. 600 hp, this gasser looks like an old Zinger model toy brought to life. Fortunately, I was able to get the scoop rather easily because this little red fireball belongs to my brother, Tom Aguilera. Here’s what he has to tell us. FTM - How did you find this car? TOM – I kept seeing it pop up on Craigslist. Got curious and clicked to see what it was. FTM - Seeing the condition it was in of a whole lot of nothing; what prompted you to buy THIS one? TOM - Right away I had a killer vision like no other. I wanted to make a traditional drag car that looked like from late 60’s to early 70’s. NO ONE ELSE has something like this. So I knew it would be unique and original. I sold the car I was building for my ex-wife. Half the money went to pay for the divorce; the other half went to build this car. FTM – Everyone approaches this car perplexed out of curiosity. Let’s hear about it. TOM - It’s a 1956 Lloyd Alexander 600. The manufacturer is in Germany called Norddeutscher Automobil und Motoren GmbH (North German Automobile and Engines, LLC) My engine is a 462 big block Chevy with 600 lift Elgin cam; LS5 heads with Crane roller rockers and stud girdle; 10.5 comp TRW pistons. Intake and carb is a Wieand Tunnel Ram with two 750 Holley Double Pumpers. PerTronix III ignition, 400 Turbo tranny with 3800 stall speed. Rear end is a 9 in. Ford with 3.70 gears and a spool. Suspension consists of ladder bars, 3 way adjustable coil-over shocks, and a Panhard bar. I made the headers to look like old Mickey Thompson super scavenger headers. The front straight axel and all of the front suspension, 2 x 3 frame, and the 1 5/8 – 12 point roll cage are all

handmade. Also homemade 12 gallon fuel cell. Dodge A100 Van bucket seats and battery box. Rear wheel wells have been stretched 4 inches to fit the 15 x 10 Vintage US Indy slots and 29.5 x 10.5 slicks. Front wheels are 15 x 4 Cragars. Headlight buckets have been reworked, and front bumper is a reworked Opel Kadett rear bumper. Tail lights are Opel Kadett reverse lights. FTM – Now on the rear of the car you have a split paint job, where the silver has some sort of red design within it. And the quarter panel has this crazy looking character. How did you do all of that? TOM - I painted the whole car myself actually. I sprayed the red flake body and silver flake roof. I did a lace pattern on the roof and sides with an old table cloth I got at Goodwill. The cloth worked like a stencil. It was my fiancée Tia’s idea. So I drug her around to different locations searching. Actually a transvestite in her purple rain outfit helped us pick it out. Just giving credit where credit is due. Justin Giboney (JAG) did the artwork. Told him I wanted a guy in a straight-jacket all whacked out of his mind looking. This is what his talented mind came up with. Turned out cooler than I imagined. I can’t forget to mention Mason Henson. He helped me whenever I needed something machined. He machined the rear wheels for a different bolt pattern, also whenever I needed a special bracket. FTM – How did the name “Clown Car” come about? TOM – As I started building, the size of the car reminded me of at the circus when all the clowns piled in a small car with their routine. It just stuck from joking around, so that’s how it’s now referred to. FTM - Well thanks for taking the time to give the low down on the “Clown Car”. Everyone wonders about it. Now we know.

Free Women’s Introduction to Self Defense Class August 2nd Sepetember 13th

The Title 2 Firearms Collecting firearms can be fun, but at a certain time you reach a saturation point. After all you can only have so many AR15’s, AK47’s, 1911’s, Glock Pistols, etc. Another interesting item to add to your collection is Title 2 firearms, often called Class 3 firearms, or NFA items. These items include Short Barrel Rifles, Short Barrel Shotguns, Suppressors, Machine Guns, destructive devices and “any other weapons” (AOW). These Title 2 firearms are the most highly regulated weapons that you can purchase. To sell these items, a firearms dealer must pay an additional yearly tax, so not every firearms dealer is able to sell these items. Southern Armory does have the licensing to assist you in purchasing these weapons and is happy to explain the legalities of ownership. Short Barrel Rifles and Short Barrel Shotguns are weapons that have a butt stock that can be shouldered with a barrel length of less than 16 inches for rifles and 18 inches for shotguns, or an overall length of less than 26 inches. Suppressors (sometimes called silencers) are rated up to a certain caliber, they come in different sizes, have different features, and are made of a variety of materials which directly influence the price. These items simply attach to the end of your firearm. There are different methods of attachment. These suppressors reduce the report of a firearm to a hearing safe level, unlike portrayed in movies where the shots are barely audible. Hearing safe is approximately 120 dB, to put this in perspective the siren on a firetruck is approximately 115 dB at 15 feet. Machine guns will continually shoot until your finger is removed from the trigger or the magazine is empty. In 1986 the NFA registry for new machine guns was closed, in turn limiting the number of machine guns available for ownership privately. Destructive devices such as mines, hand grenades, and claymores are legal to own but they are expensive, require a $200 tax to pay and are a single use item. “Any other weapons” (AOWs) are firearms that do not look like firearms such as: cane guns, pen guns, umbrella guns, wallet guns etc. In Missouri these are perfectly legal to possess as long as you comply with federal law. Federal law dictates that you are not able to purchase these items if you are a prohibited person, these people include felons, members of the armed services discharged under dishonorable conditions, and people adjudicated mentally incompetent just to name a few. To acquire NFA items you must undergo an extensive background check, which may include finger prints, photograph, and a signature from the Chief of Police where you live, along with a $200 tax paid to the bureau of alcohol tobacco firearms and explosives. To learn more about the enter the legalities of ownership of these items please visit our website at www.southernarmory.com and sign up for a free class. This class is a complete overview of how to purchase, possess, and sell, NFA items, as well as how to destroy an NFA item and what happens to an NFA item if the owner dies.

What goes through your mind when you see a totally jacked up truck with cool shiny chrome wheels and big knobby tires racing down the road? Or a bad ass Jeep Wrangler with a bright LED light bar stretched across the top? Are you a little envious? I bet you’re thinking, “That looks like so much fun to drive!” Pur Performance, being the largest independent retail parts and installation shop in the Midwest, is the best place in town to go to, to turn your ordinary truck or jeep to an extraordinary truck or jeep. Kevin Shine, the owner of Pur Performance, has been working on all types of vehicles ever since he was sixteen years old. He grew up around cars and at the age of sixteen, he started working at his father’s Shell service stations. Back in the sixties and seventies, full service filling stations are where you would take your vehicles to have work done. Back then, “Shell” would offered classes on how to deal with the customer’s issues and sell product as well as provided mechanic certifications. It was all about the mechanical skills not like today where you can hook your car up to a computer to find out what is wrong with it. Kevin began to work for his dad part-time as a mechanic and by the time he graduated from high school, he worked full time. In the late 1970’s four wheel drive vehicles started to become more and more popular. This intrigues Kevin; he started working on the trucks and jeeps that came into the station; he found his niche. He enjoyed that so much, by the time he was twenty years old, he decided to venture out on his own and start his own business specializing in four wheeled drive vehicle. He set up shop down on First Capital in St. Charles, Mo called “First Capital 4WD.” He specialized in installing lift kits, big oversized tires, adding unique accessories, as well as high performance kits, really making these trucks one of a kind. Kevin stayed at the same location for about twenty years; until in 2001, Lindenwood University wanted to expand their campus. They approached Kevin with an offer he couldn’t refuse. Being that he now needed to find a new place to set up shop, he came into another great opportunity he could not pass up. He purchased the building where he is currently located; 3725 Harry S. Truman Blvd, St. Charles, Mo.

LUMALEDS

This store was much larger than his store on First Capital so his inventory was lacking just a bit. With this new location, and a whole new name, business continued to improve. And with such a higher demand, he quickly filled his store up with more and more inventory. He went from having about $10,000 worth of inventory to now grossing over $2 Million of inventory and parts. Through the course of several years and having the knowledge of more mechanics working for him, Kevin was able to expand even further. He decided to start working regular cars. “It’s the same performance parts. Whether it’s a truck or a car” With adding in the new element, he was a true force to be reckoned with. But wait, he didn’t want to stop there. Not only does he do the cosmetic and performance aspect of your truck, jeep or car, we works on the maintenance side as well. If you need a simple oil change, mechanical diagnostic, state inspection, tune up, or anything in between; and with eight bays, a state of the art dynojet chassis dyno, and over 25,000 square feet facility of inventory, Pur Performance is truly a one stop shop. Kevin Shine is a true entrepreneur. With this unique niche market, he has continued to grow Pur Performance to what is it today. About a couple of years ago Kevin met a man by the name of Steve Miller. Steve has a background in marketing and was a Rep for a company that sold parts to Kevin. Steve, seeing that Kevin offered a great service to such a niche market, had an idea to partner with Kevin in a business that could continue to benefit Pur Performance as well as many other retailers out there in this same industry; LED Lighting. Steve has a vast knowledge in the LED light market and had much to offer. Kevin agreed and in September 2014, LUMALEDS was born. LED lights are smaller, run cooler, run brighter, and run longer than any other vehicle halogen bulb out there. With a high-tech design, not only will they give your vehicle a killer look, the functionality is top notch. You can have installed a simple light bar, spot lights or even a bright lollipop design attached to your Bull Bar front grill guard. Anything you want; on top or even the under carriage. You will be amazed the difference it will make your vehicle look. Lift Kits, custom wheel, high performance tires, “bat out of hell” engine, window tinting, custom bed liners, or custom lighting; the next time you want to get “ALL JACKED UP”. Call Kevin at Pur Performance. He’ll make sure your roll out in style.

Sturgis...... Article By Marshall Tucker

Sturgis…It’s crazy to think

it’s already here again. By now, everyone who is going is probably heading there just about now. For those who are trailering, like Bob and myself, are packed up and heading down the highway with excitement and adrenaline for the week ahead.

The ones who like to say, “I road mine to Sturgis”, have loaded their bikes down with everything they can possibly fit. I’m sure they most likely have exceeded the weight limit for their bikes. But, that is the farthest thing from their minds as they just want to get there and have an awesome time. This year is the 75th Anniversary of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally; the largest motorcycle rally and races in the world. But, why do people continue going there? People from all over the world, during some point in their lives; want to be a part of this experience. For some, even if they don’t own or have ever owned a motorcycle in their lives, want to absorb the atmosphere; they want take it all in. For those of you who have never been or even heard of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, may not quite grasp what the experience is all about. My father is going for the first time this year. He has been riding for about 6 years now and every year I’ve try to get him to go. This year, he is going with a group he belongs to called “Road Riders for Jesus”. “This is a mission trip.” he says. I was happy to hear he was finally going. But, to explain to him exactly what to expect is a whole other story. It’s exciting, it’s adrenaline rushing, it’s the big open sky, it’s nature, it’s the winding roads, it’s the racing to beat the rain storm that is vastly approaching, it’s the not knowing exactly where that rain storm is heading, it’s witnessing the beautiful rainbow form after that www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com Page 42 Page 42 www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

...The Experience

Written By C. Blanton

storm passes, it’s the crowd of crazy people, it’s the roaring of hundreds of thousands of motorcycles racing down every road, it’s the walking around and shopping, visiting every vendor, it’s the live music everywhere, it’s finding that perfect spot to park your bike after riding up and down the gauntlet on Main Street, it’s the planning for all weather conditions (except for snow, although one year it damn near got close), it’s making sure your go and visit FULL THROTTLE SALOON, it’s heading to the Buffalo Chip for an amazing concert from famous headlining acts, it’s going to visit Hewlett, Wyoming for the “No Panties Wednesday, Ham N’ Jam” festivities, it’s riding the Black Hills to take in the spectacles of Mount Rushmore , The Crazy Horse Monument, and Tatanka, it’s making sure you don’t get run down by a buffalo while you decide to stop to take a picture one, it’s feeding the burrows on the side of the road in the wildlife loop of Custer State Park, it’s being on the look out for the guy with the dog, the cat, and the rat (tips for pics), it’s seeing those family vacationers who have no idea what “Sturgis” is and they look like a deer in headlights when they first see all the motorcycles, it’ the night life when it gets a lot more crazy, it’s history, it’s the beauty, it’s everything. The rally spans from Wall, South Dakota to Hewlett, Wyoming and everywhere in between; Rapid City, Custer, Hill City, Keystone, Deadwood, Lead, Sturgis, and you can even find Nemo. So you see, everything that I have described to you is what I’ve experienced, what I’ve felt. It might be different for you or your neighbor. But the one thing that is for certain, it’s a must on your bucket list. 75 years…….Clarence “Pappy” Hoel, the founder of the rally is probably smiling down on all of us with complete joy at what he has created. Bringing people from all over the world together to experience this one common thread of existence.

“’57 Chevrolet! Sweet, Smooth And Sassy!” “Chevy puts the PURR in Performance!” “You get more to be proud of in a Chevy!”

These are just a few slogans for the ’57 Chevrolet when they were introduced & they are all still true today. Although Tom Smith is too young to remember these from 1957; but one look at his ’57 Chevy and you know he loves them. Tom is a true car guy & he loves a lot of cars, but he has a special connection with this one. It all started back in 1979 when he found an ad in the news paper for a ’57 for sale. (remember news paper car ads)? He went to look at the car and it was really nice - too nice. He couldn’t afford it but he saw another one inside the shop where this one was located. It was in need of some repair. It had a broken windshield and the whole left side was damaged. This was more in his budget except it wasn’t for sale; they said they were going to fix it. Tom told them if they ever wanted to sell it to call him. Three days later he got a call. For a low price of $400.00 it was his. The ’57 ran & drove fine. At the time it was green, black interior, 283 cu. in., 3 speed transmission, factory power steering and power brakes. So Tom drove it as is for a few years until it got hit head on by a drunk driver. This was a good time for a complete makeover. He took the car completely apart. This time it went back together with a 350 cu. in. and a 4 speed. The new paint was Hugger Orange with Gold Micro Flake in the clear. Something about this poor ’57; its days were numbered and a few years later it caught fire as he was driving it. Damage was done to the hood and a lot was damaged in the engine bay & firewall. Tom was no stranger when it came to taking the car apart, again. He totally stripped it down and even took the body off of the frame this time. We all have bad times in our lives, but Tom was having some really tough times and he lost interest in the car for

nge Crate about 14 years. So it just sat. The day came when he had to decide to fix it or sell it. Me for one; I’m glad he decided to keep it. For the next 4 years he worked on it when he could and the end result really turned out a fantastic Bel Air.

So many cars this nice travel in a trailer; and there’s nothing wrong with that. But the only trailer in his driveway is for camping, so this ’57 is Driven everywhere! Places include Memphis, Indy, Des Moines, Chicago, Kansas City, Springfield IL, and Springfield MO. When Tom took Car Shows serious he did very well. But now since he loves driving the car so much it shows a little wear, so it is shown Display Only. I guarantee it still gets a lot of attention. A part of the reason Tom loves driving this car so much is due to all of the changes he did with his last re-build. It starts off with the 468 cu. in. with J&E forged pistons, Comp Cams cam lifters & push rods, Chevrolet aluminum heads, Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley HP 830 carb and MSD Pro-billet distributor. To get the power to the pavement he has a Tremec TKO 5-speed and a 9” rear end with 4:11 gears and Moser axles. To make sure it stops, he has 4 polished Wilwood calipers with 13” drilled & slotted rotors. To handle all of our great roads around town and those long trips, he has rear Chris Alston ladder bars & dual adjustable coil over shocks on all 4 corners. He even updated the steering to a Unisteer rack & pinion with a Billet Specialties Revolver steering wheel to maneuver the 20X10 rear & 18X17 front INTRO-Wheeler series wheels. For the living area, since he is behind the wheel a lot, he has ’95 Firebird bucket seats for comfort, a roll cage for safety and really nice Beige Ultra leather and Ostrich to finish it all off. Come back next month to see how nice this “Sweet, Smooth And Sassy!” 1957 Chevy really is.
