Back To The Track Hey everyone, Phil Bruno here from Doc’s H-D, and I want to tell you about a once in a lifetime experience. “Back To The Track” was a training event to which Harley-Davidson invited premiere dealerships to go to Las Vegas and experience their line-up of motorcycles and how they ride on a track at the Las Vegas Motor-Speedway. Matt Butkovich, Jared O’Neal, Brad Bryant and I were lucky to go and experience this great event. The feeling of just being in the Pit at the Las Vegas Motor-Speedway was unbelievable. Seeing pictures of some of the greatest Nascar drivers and celebrities that have been in that pit put a great perspective on how lucky we were to experience this event. From time to time we would hear the sound of a Lamborghini, Maserati, or Mustang trailing behind Nascar Drivers going 150 mph plus. In addition, there is a base constantly running training exercises with fighter jets. Watching them constantly training to make themselves better made us realize what we are about to be doing here. Brad Bryant described this experience best as he says, “There was a point where I pulled off the track, took my helmet off, and just looked around. Fighter jets and bomber planes going overhead, surrounded by mountains, Harley underneath me, and I just kind of felt like the moment was larger than I could have imagined.” Once we took into all the sights, we were able to start riding motorcycles. When we got there, we were met by the Yamaha Champion Riding School. They have many world champions- some were even current record holders- and we had these amazing riders as our instructors. As we walked up to the track, we realized not only are we going to be riding Harley-Davidson bikes, but we are going to be riding competitor motorcycles as well. Riding around the track was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I took around an Iron 883, Forty-Eight, 1200 Custom, Road Glide, Street Glide, Street 750, and Road Glide Ultra. The track varied, anything from a straight away all the way to a heavy U-turn. The feeling of riding a motorcycle on the track is hard to describe. Just having that track to yourself and able to focus on just how the motorcycle feels and responds to every command you give it, creates a whole new level to the riding experience. All Harley-Davidson models were impressive and handled that track with ease. When I was able to ride motorcycles with stereo systems, I blast the music. It set my mind and ease and let me feel the road, the motorcycle, and myself become one. The focus that I had singing to every song was just putting me more in the groove with just how much Harley-Davidson has to offer and how they ride. After I got done with my first ride with the music up, I realized I had been the only one jamming out and singing on the track. Because of that, everyone knew me as that 90’s Rap music dude (Ok, ok I snuck in some early 2000’s, as well). After we all finished riding, Jared, Brad, Matt and I all agreed that Road Glide Ultra was one of the best motorcycles ever created. It handled everything with ease, including the U-turns. After riding motorcycles for two days, Matt remarked, “‘Back to the Track’ was very eye-opening for me. There’s no doubt who engineers the best looking, most comfortable, well balanced, power-to-the-ground bike on the planet...Harley-Davidson.” Jared added in, “Harley-Davidson was the fastest bike on the track….period!” All in all, this training called “Back To The Track” grew my passion for Harley-Davidson and everything it has to offer. It taught us more about how to be a better rider and understand the Harley-Davidson product in a completely new way than anything we have done before. Feel free to stop by Doc’s Harley-Davidson and ask Brad, Matt, Jared or myself about this great opportunity that we were able to experience. From Your 90’s Rap Dude, Phillip J. ROCK

BREWS

W

“ hat goes better than Rock & Brews”! This was the statement that renowned Dave Furano, a concert promoter and merchandiser, said back in 2010 after a KISS concert while visiting with long time friends KISS Front Man Gene Simons and Paul Stanley. Dave had been in the concert promoting business since the late sixties. Shortly after becoming successful, Dave brought on his brother Dell to learn the business. The two of them together worked to create an extremely profitable concert T-shirt promoting business. Dave’s dream didn’t stop there, he always imagined himself owning a Rock & Roll restaurant and selling t-shirts. That concert back in 2010, he was accompanied by his brother Dell and restaurateur/hotelier extraordinaire Michael Zislis. That statement he made struck a cord….no pun intended. The five of them started brainstorming and between them having extensive concert, branding, restaurant experience and of course the world wide KISS fan base. ROCK & BREWS Restaurants was born. The first location was opened in April 2012 in El Segundo, California. There are currently 16 locations across the US and two locations located in Cabo, Mexico. One of those locations are in Full Throttle Magazine’s very own back yard, Chesterfield, Missouri; which is owned by a Mr. Kirk Williams. Kirk’s has a long standing history in the restaurant world. Having over 21 years of experience and owning 21 Wendy’s franchises across Kansas and Oklahoma, he was looked at as a leading candidate to lead Rock & Brews across the Mid-West. When Kirk was asked if he would be interested in a territory, he started doing some research on the company, visiting other operational restaurants; just getting a good feel for what Rock & Brews is really about. He quickly realized that this company is in it for the long haul and decided to jump in with both feet. A little over three years ago he opened his first location in Overland Park, KS. Then about a year and a half ago he opened his second location in Oklahoma City, OK. Then just this past November, his third location in Chesterfield, MO opened their doors. Kirk wanted to make sure that everyone who walked into his doors had a true Rock & Brews experience. As soon as you enter, you hear great Rock & Roll music from all the way back to the 1970’s. But you don’t just have to hear the music, with nearly 50 TV’s spread through out the restaurant, you can watch your favorite Rock icons and legends in action. Being that the second half the the name is “BREWS”, you can’t go without serving the best. They offer fifty to sixty craft beers on tap plus many more served up in bottles just waiting for you to try them. Here’s the best part, Rock & Brews likes to designate a special beer tap area for local brewing companies. So which ever location you are at, you will have an opportunity to try craft beer that was brewed in your hometown. Beer isn’t the only thing they have. There is a full service bar offering up yummy cocktails as well as their very own cocktail concoctions. Now, It’s not just all about the Rock and the Brews; it’s also about the FOOD. If you want to enjoy your

favorite comfort food or try something new, this is the place to be. From their HUGE soft pretzel to the delectable grilled salmon served with their amazing grilled asparagus. You can’t go wrong. I must say….. the Asian Wings are AWESOME and the Ribeye is out of this world! Hands down, there has been nothing that I have had that wasn’t sensational. The entire atmosphere is so laid back and relaxing. Whether you want to stop by for lunch, happy hour or dinner, there is nothing like the experience. We’ve covered, Rock, Brews and Food. What about other ways to enjoy your time while you are there? What if you want to have a party or some kind of group function? They have areas for that too. From the KISS room to comfy covered patio seating with fire pits. Just call them up and tell them what you are after and they will get it all ready for you. Okay…. I’ve saved the best for last. Rock & Brews is super KID FRIENDLY! That’s right, KID FRIENDLY! They offer areas around the restaurant that have all sorts of kid friendly games for their entertainment. So bring those kiddo’s for a fun filled night out. I asked Kirk if he is going to opening any more Rock & Brews locations around the St. Louis metro area. He indicated that it’s a possibility. So…who knows, you might just see one or two pop up in our home town. From Rock to Brews to Food to Fun. Gather up the whole family, gather up all your friends, gather up all your colleagues and make your way to Rock & Brews! You won’t be disappointed. For a list of all the locations visit www.rockandbrews.com to find one near you.

On February 25th & 26th held the Baddest Bagger Bike Show. This Bad Ass

show is the battle of the best Bagger builders all across the US. It goes from state to state throughout the year. This show was held in conjunction with Wide Open Bike Show in Kansas City, MO. Sara and I decided to put our newly rebuilt Harley-Davidson Streetglide Big Wheeled Bagger in the show just to show it off; with no intention of taking home any awards. Especially after seeing all the other bikes in the show. When you have builders like Sinworx from South Carolina, All-Star Baggers from Dallas TX, Curlys Custom cycles from Hobart IN and Xtreme Rides from Winfield MO; there was just no way. Then during awards, I was floored to see our picture up on the screen for 3rd place. To place among these bike builders was over whelming. Winner in the Stock class was Bill McBride with a 2006 RoadGlide. Winner of the Modified was Joe Rooney with a 2015 RoadGlide. The winner of the Radical 26” was Dave Mozingo with a 2013 RoadGlide and Winner in the Pro Class was Daniel Robey with a 2013 RoadGlide. They Also held an Audio competition, the winner hit an astonishing 125 decibels, Art Steele from All Star Bagger and Dave Mozingo from Sinworx tied for decibels and clarity. The show also featured special guest such as Josh from the TV show Moonshiners. What a great guy, carrying around his moonshine jug and being sociable to everyone. And Michael Ballard from Full Throttle Saloon. Anyone who is into the custom baggers, this is a “Must Go” show. You will be truly amazed at the talent. There is talk of it coming to the St. Louis area next year along with the Wide Open Bike Show.

ne of the area’s biggest and best biker hangouts, best BBQ, amazing and relaxing scenic views, and by far the best place to party is back and better than ever with its original Owner Steve “Quincy” Kasten. The Hawg Pit BBQ Barn in Grafton, IL is THE motorcycle destination on the Historic Great River Road, and they are ready for you. The real question is, are you ready for the biggest and baddest year EVER at Hawg Pit BBQ Barn? All of us at Full Throttle Magazine Midwest are 100% ready. With the start of their 8th season coming up quickly, you better get your butt in gear and get ready to eat the best bbq and have the best time. As most of us know Quincy leased out the Hawg Pit BBQ Barn last year. But there was a little problem. He couldn’t stand missing out on all the fun times, and he truly missed seeing all his friends. So, he’s decided to take back the reigns and plans on making this year the biggest and baddest year yet. There will be so many great events this year he doesn’t even know where to start. There will be jeeps, hot rods, rat rods, motorcycle shows, car shows, poker runs, great live music, and bonfires to just name a few. You don’t want to miss out on all this fun. Also, you never know who or what you will run into at the Hawg Pit. Maybe a celebrity, maybe a television personality, maybe a friend or two. But one thing is for certain you will make a new friend or two every time you visit the Hawg Pit. So, don’t be shy. You know, maybe it’s something they put in that amazing BBQ of theirs that makes everyone so happy and friendly, but it’s always a great atmosphere at the Hawg Pit. For all of us that know Quincy, we couldn’t be more excited for his return. Everyone that doesn’t know Quincy, he truly cares for every customer that walks through his doors. If you came last year and had a bad experience, he would really like for you Page 28

Oh yea, and the most amazing scenic views, from the ride down the Historic River Road, to just sitting out back around the fire pit with your friends and watching the river flow by. The Hawg Pit will officially open its doors for weekends only, Friday, Saturday, And Sunday, starting April 7th. They will open their doors and start serving food at 11 A.M. First Responders Appreciation Day

Surdyke Harley-Davidson had an amazing turnout for their First Responders Appreciation Day. There was plenty to do and see from food and drinks to family entertainment. But the best part was meeting legendary film and television star Erik Estrada. What an awesome guy. He was so down to earth and truly enjoyed spending his time with all of us. From the moment he arrived until the moment he left he really took his time with each individual, shaking their hands, giving big hugs and signing autographs. Before the meet and greet officially took off, “98-The Boot”, did a quick Q & A with Erik. Some interesting facts came out. For instance, Erik has been working in the law enforcement reserves for the last 18 years. His job is to work behind the scenes in an orchestrative sting operation, nabbing online child molesters. I say “kuddo’s to you!” Erik expressed how he always wanted to be a cop. When he was young, his mother’s boyfriend was a cop and with that came love and admiration for him as well as the position he held. When asked how he got into acting, he quipped that he got into acting by following a girl, that he liked, into an acting class one day. Appearently something struck a cord. He also filled us in on how he got into motorcycles. Believe it or not; it was when he landed the role as Poncho in the TV Hit series “CHiPs”. Even though, at the time, he wasn’t pursuing a career in law enforcement he ultimately got to play one. “CHiPs” ran for 6 season from 19771983 putting Erik on the map of success. elcome back Full throttle readers and riders! As we all are riding out what seems to be the last little effort winter has to offer we are all looking forward to consistently warmer weather and welcoming winding roads. I figured I’d give our readers a little break from the articles featuring my personal build “Hardly Dangerous” and take some time to check out some new product. Well to be perfectly honest I’m now the victim of the one conversion I hate having with my clients. BACKORDERS! In most cases it always seems to be the one part or parts needed to complete the whole build. This situation is always frustrating for me on the sales end but also for the customer because it may be the only option out there or even worse the one the client most desires. It’s hard to comprehend where your part is and why it’s not where it’s supposed to be. Is your part out there somewhere looking at the same night sky thinking about you too? Is it longing to be with you like you are for it? Probably not but these are things you think about when you hit a stopping point with no forward momentum on your build. So let’s talk about seeing the light! We all know about the LED lighting we can now have for our bikes to see and also be seen better but let’s take a step back and remember when and where that “Light Emitting Diode” craze started. Sometime in the early 2000’s most likely down the main strip of Daytona bike week or Sturgis, someone decided to put some lighting around a Harley-Davidson V-Twin. The chrome engine covers reflected and bounced that light all over the place added a cool feature that hadn’t yet really been explored in the motorcycle industry. From there on out every Chopper, Bagger, and custom Harley was rolling with lighting flashing in every color and fashion. Over the years this feature became kinda mundane and lack lustered as everyone seemed to have them. In the early days of the product you could only have one color as the technology was still progressing and the LED pods were huge and hard to hide. Fast forward through a few years of boring applications to the present with forward thinking technology and LEDs that are now in much more mass production than ever before. This now

brings us better technology and lower prices. LEDs are being used in everything from the motorsports and automotive industries to custom home lighting that is much more energy efficient than Edison’s bulbs.

Harley-Davidson now has stepped up their game and released the Spectra glow line that offers 7 base colors that offer up 500 customizable shades when the controller is purchased with their wireless remote. This line is effective on all models but is really aimed at the bagger line and offers internal speaker lighting, inner fairing lighting and lighted floor boards that all sync together. One company that caught my eye in particular this year at the Tucker– Rocky parts expo was XK Glow lighting.

This was a new level of lighting I hadn’t seen yet. They offer affordable and amazing systems for every need. This system links with your smart phone via an app. You will have many customizable color options including a chameleon mode that uses your phones camera to match any color you place it on! Pretty amazing to be able to match that custom paint you may have with the simple snap of a picture! It also comes with standard features like music sync that will pulse with music should you have it, it also offers a G force mode that will get brighter with applied speed or braking. They offer multi zone mode that allows you to have two colors at once. One of the best features I really like about this product is the “brake light mode”. When activated this mode links up to your brake lights and when braking is applied the entire bike lights up red on every pod no matter what color it was on previously, when the brake is released the lights go back to doing their Pink Floyd light show thing! One can even purchase the turn signal expansion pack to add the turn signal function that will light up yellow which every side turn signal is being used. This feature was one of the coolest and safest features I’d seen in our industry in a long a while as we all want to be seen when riding, especially at night. Never thought I’d use the words cool and safe in the same sentence? Weird? Should you have any questions about any of the products you have read about today come and see us at St Charles Harley-Davidson. Thanks for stopping by and yall enjoy the ride! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

The 1st Road King Special

H

ow’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here to give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. Hope you enjoy this article and looking forward to many more! Spring is has made it’s way to us and looking forward to another great riding season. The biggest bike nights in the mid-west start April 6th from 6pm-9pm and will continue the first Thursday of the month. We will have bigger and better things coming and can’t wait for you all to see it for yourself. The motorcycle I want to talk about this month is our stripped down clean black and chrome contrast Road King. As you look at it you would think it was the all new Harley-Davidson production Road King Special that Harley just released. They both have a lot of looks that are similar but this was built before the release of that bike so it makes it a St. Charles Harley-Davidson Road King Special. Some of the eye catching features of this motorcycle you will see is the Black front end and Nacelle along with the added blacked out Enforcer wheels. To bring out the stealth front end we accented it with Chrome bullet turn signals and brackets and cleaned up the front end by removing the passing lamps. For the comfort of the rider but to still give it an old school look we went with some Gimp ape hangers. These narrow stance apes really make that long ride very enjoyable. A few other things we wanted to do to make this bike its own was to add the black anodized Harley-Davidson Defiance foot & hand control collection. This new design is one of my favorites that the motor company has come out with. For the fuel tank we wanted it to have some contrast in with it and a clean look so we went with Harley-Davidson’s black flush mount fuel gauges and black fuel console with a black Covington Customs insert. These really brought out the color of the bike but still kept the contrast flow perfect. We added a lot more black to the already chrome on the bike and finished up the rear end with a narrow turn signal bar and bullet turn signals to match with the front. The list goes on and on with all the different modifies to this Road King. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and looking forward to what we have coming next month as we customize another Harley-Davidson for you. Please come into St. Charles Harley-Davidson and ask for me, Zach White or give me a call @ 636-946-6487 and also by email zach@stcharlesharleydavidson.com to set up a consultation. I’m here to make all your Harley-Davidson dreams come true!

Are you in need of a little vacation? Are you ready to put some miles on your motorcycle this season? Are you ready to eat some great food, enjoy a cold beverage and have a great time? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you need to get to Tirebiters Peanut Pub at the Lake of the Ozarks A.S.A.P.

Tire

Tirebiters Peanut Pub has been at the Lake of the Ozarks for over 20 years now and they are open yearround. I know what you’re thinking, open year-round at the Lake of the Ozarks, and they’ve been open over 20 years. WHAT??? Yes, it’s true, and there’s a good reason why. They have the most amazing food, the coldest drinks, the best service the Lake of the Ozarks offers; and the peanuts are free. Go and grab yourself a handful, crack them open and toss the shells on the floor, they don’t mind. Sounds like the place we all need to be. New owner Tom Morgan purchased Tirebiters from original owner Jim Ross a little over a year ago. Tom has always loved Tirebiters since the first time he visited years ago. His wife always told him that if Jim was going to sell, Tom should be the one to buy it. To be honest, Tom never thought it would really happen, but he always loved the idea. Owning a great bar at the Lake of the Ozarks is every man’s dream, right? Especially a bar like Tirebiters. Let me take you back quite a few years to when Tom first started coming to Tirebiters. Tom worked for a Budweiser distributor. As a bonus, the owner would take them on trips to the Lake of the Ozarks occasionally. He fell in love with the lake more and more every time he visited. Years down the road, Tom eventually owned his own Budweiser distribution company. He and his two partners were in business for about 6 years. In 2007 he felt it was time to sell his business and retire. Tom and his wife moved to the lake full time buying a nice boat and enjoying retirement. After a lot of relaxing and down time they realized that they needed to find something to keep busy. They decided to get into exercising at the local gym. Even though the exercising was helping them get to their physical goals, it wasn’t consistently keeping them occupied. They ended up purchasing a few Anytime fitness facilites to keep them busy.

While all of this was going on they still loved going to Tirebiters to hang out and grab a drink and a

Biters

bite to eat. Occasionally Tom would see owner Jim Ross and hassle him about selling. Tom never gave up on that dream. One day he got the call from Jim that he was ready to sell. Tom and his wife were ecstatic. After some negotiations, it all fell into place and Tom and his wife purchased Tirebiters. In the last year, they have done many things to make Tirebiters even better than it was before. They have done a lot of remodeling and the place looks amazing. They brought back the free peanuts, which is a huge plus. Have I mentioned they let you throw the shells on the floor; really, they don’t care! To expand their seating, they offer a great outdoor patio/deck area for relaxing. This deck is surrounded by lots of mature trees for more of that secluded feel. Tom cares for everyone who patronizes his establishment; making sure that everyones needs are met. Tirebiters now offers seventy percent of the restaurant to be non-smoking with a sectioned off designated smoking area. Forgot to charge your cell phone??? No Problem; there are two designated cell phone charging stations. Walk over, plug your cell phone or tablet in and while you recharge your batteries, so will your phone. They literally thought of everything. Music can cure whatever ales you. That’s why Tom’s plans is to offer live acoustic entertainment every weekend. They also want to get more involved in the motorcycle and motorsports community. Tom has had a love for motorcycles his whole life and has been riding for most of that. When we asked Tom about the name Tirebiters, he said it makes him think powersports and motorcycles. How tires can shred on hot pavement. Or right before a drag race the when the tires a spinning until they are smoking hot to get a better grip on the track. Tom and his wife have had the idea of owning Tirebiters for a long time, and there dream finally came true. We as customers couldn’t be luckier. They truly care for every customer. They have worked so hard to make everyone’s experience at Tirebiters a good one. All of us at Full Throttle Magazine Midwest can’t wait to get down there and eat some great food and have some fun. We hope to see you all very soon at Tirebiters Peanut pub at the Lake of the Ozarks. Look for it behind “Big O Tires” right off Business 54. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
