The Road to Customization

hen you own a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, you want that Motorcycle to reflect you and your style. The great thing about HarleyDavidson’s the fact that they are the most customizable bikes in the world. The possibilities are almost endless. Harley-Davidson offers many collections to change the styling of your bike. You can change anything from your timer cover, derby cover, or hand grips, all the way to getting a custom paint set. Not only is customizing your bike fun, it also helps your bike stand out in the crowd. No one wants to go to a bike rally and find five other bikes that look exactly like theirs. The collections that Harley-Davidson offers include the awesome looking Defiance collection. The collection is offered in multiple finishes to match your styling, including Black Anodized Machine Cut, Black Anodized, and Chrome. When this collection was introduced in 2017, it spoke for itself. The collection, defined by sweeping curves, deep longitudinal lines, and a contemporary H-D Logo really raises the customization bar. The rich textured black rubber traction surfaces allow the rider to be comfortable while maintaining grip and control. This year Harley-Davidson released two brand new collections; the Dominion collection and the Kahuna collection. The Dominion collection is a premium, leading-edge collection that was created to take your bike to a new level of customization. This robust, but simple system is offered in gloss black anodized or bronze powder coated base components and features interchangeable accent pieces to kick your bike into high CONTINUE ON PAGE 5

2018 Lake of the Ozark Bikefest is now in the books. What a fantastic event this year’s Bikefest turned out to be. With the weather sunny everyday, with not a drop of rain, it was without a doubt the best weather I remember in the twelve-year history of the event. The attendance was the largest group of bikers to ever make it to the lake. Riders began to arrive at the Lake on Weds and by the Friday the lake area was taken over by the Page 3 & 5: The Road to Customization huge number of bikers ready to have a great time. Everywhere we traveled taking pictures and talking with riders there were Page 6: Cruisin’ Calendar huge crowds and the bikers were all having a blast. Lake Ozark Page 10-11: Historic Route 66 Bike Harley had a continuous crowd of people filling their lot and Night store and visiting the great group of vendors that were offing Page: 14-15: 115th Anniversary H-D there goods in the Harley’s Vendor Village. There were two additional vendor villages that kept a steady flow of bikers Rally interested, one at Camden on the Lake and one on the strip. Page: 20-22: Bikefest All the bars and restaurants everywhere at the lake seemed to Page 26-28: “Big” Changes on the always be busy. The strip was certainly taken over almost the Horizon entire week by bikes and bikers looking to have a good time.

gear. The Kahuna collection is offered in both a rich gloss black or a smooth, glass-like chrome finish. The surface is interrupted by a powerful raised bridge that draws the eye from leading to trailing edge. A red Bar & Shield logo adds the finishing touch.
Customizing your bike doesn’t stop at looks. You want to make sure your bike feels right for you. There are many options to optimize the fitment of your bike at your disposal. If you’re tall and need to come back further from your controls, we can install a Tallboy seat. Your bike might also be able to have extended reach forward controls installed. Maybe you want to ride for hours without having to stop except to get gas. The Hammock seat might be a perfect fit for you. You might be a rider who is always riding two-up and needs improved suspension. We have options from both H-D and aftermarket companies.
A lot of riders enjoy listening to their music while they’re riding. Harley-Davidson has some options for you in the audio department. If your bike doesn’t come equipped with an audio system, we might have the perfect option for you. The Boom! Audio Bluetooth Cruiser Amp and Speaker Kit provides amplified music through two great sounding handlebar-mounted speakers. If these awesome speakers don’t pack enough punch for you, we also have the Boom! Audio Bluetooth Cruiser Amp and Speaker Expansion Kit. It adds two additional speakers to the sound system that are mounted on your sissy bar, really giving you that extra boost of sound. On newer touring models that come equipped with audio systems, you’ll have upgrades available to you as well. The Boom Audio Stage II systems give you the very best motorcycle sound experience. You are able to crank this sound system up to max and you’ll still have crystal clear audio. This audio upgrade is almost deafening, so you won’t have to worry about wind noise with it cranked up! No matter your customization needs, the Customization experts here at Doc’s HarleyDavidson are the ones you can trust to get the job done. The Harley-Davidson Anniversary rally in Milwaukee, WI has
once again come and gone. This year marks the 115th year. Every five years, Harley-Davidson puts on a massive spectacle where everyone from all over the world comes to celebrate another milstone from one of the largest motorcycle manufactuerer in the world. While everyone enjoys all the sights in and around Milwaukee and all the events going on around the city; the parties never stop and goes on all day long and into the night. All day and all night you hear the roar of the Harleys running up and down the road. Thursday night was the kick off for the rally. Parking across the bridge and walk almost a mile just to get to the museum. This 115th year anniversary is, by far, probably the best rally I have attended. Every Dealership had something going on, some even close down a mile or two of the road leaving only access for motorcycles to exit the highway and go to their event. There was everything from flat track racing on the beach, hill climbs, wall of death Bike shows, Concerts and bands everywhere. Brady street seemed to be the place to be after all the events came to an end for the day. Everyone flocked to the block party for the night time fun and shenanigans. There was a sea of people with guys showing off their custom bikes blasting their tricked out audio and flame throwers while everyone danced in the streets. The police sat back and let everyone have a great time as the crowd policed themselves with no issues. The bike parade was so impressive to see; They set up nearly 7000 bikes to take off from Miller park and road to Veterans park. Nearly four to five miles long, taking around four hours to complete. This parade is where you can see every country, the State police motorcycle doing manuvers and just some of the coolest bikes. If you never been to Milwaukee for this rally, it is a must to go. The 120th will be the next, although they have this every year the weekend of Labor Day but on a much smaller scale.

BE A RESPONSIBLE RIDER Remember, Multipurpose Utility Vehicles (Side-by-Sides) can be hazardous to operate. Always wear your seat belt, helmet, eye protection, and clothing appropriate to the driving situation. Keep doors and side nets closed. Never carry a passenger in the cargo bed, stay off public roads, obey cargo limits and guidelines, and never drink and drive. ALL MUV DRIVERS SHOULD WATCH THE SAFETY VIDEO“MULTIPURPOSE UTILITY VEHICLES: A GUIDE TO SAFE OPERATION.”Be sure to follow the Owner’s Manual directions when carrying cargo or towing a trailer. Avoid excessive speeds, and never drive faster than conditions permit. All Pioneer models are recommended for drivers 16 years of age and older, and tall enough to wear the seat belt properly and reach all the controls. The passenger(s) should also be tall enough for the seat belt to fit properly and brace themselves, if needed, by placing both feet firmly on the floor while firmly grasping a hand hold. Whenever you drive off-road, make sure you follow all the“TREAD LIGHTLY”guidelines, and always stay on established trails in approved areas. Keep your off-road area clean, use common sense, and respect the rights of others. We strongly recommend that you use only Honda approved accessories that have been specifically designed and tested for your vehicle and do not remove any original equipment or modify your Honda in any way that would change its design or operation. “BIG” CHANGES M
ost of you reading this article know about or have heard of Big St. Charles Motorsports/Harley-Davidson. Why? Because they are the largest motorcycle dealer in the nation. Yes, you read that correct. In the NATION!! They truly are so much more than that as well. Let me tell you how they got this BIG title and why they are a Motorsports enthusiast dream and destination. I also have some very exciting, BIG news about a new Harley-Davidson Dealer. In September of 2008 Brad Holzhauer was working his hardest and doing everything in his power to purchase Bob Shultz Motorsports. Brad has been in the motorsports industry for a long time, opening his first Yamaha franchise in 1993. He is no beginner to the industry. Brad had been looking to expand and thought this was the perfect opportunity to do so. After lots of negotiations, later that month, Brad closed on the dealership and Big St. Charles motorsports was born. No one had any idea that this dealership would grow into the largest motorcycle dealer in the nation. A few years after Big St. Charles opened, the business next door closed its doors. It was a large sporting goods/outfitters store. This gave Brad the perfect opportunity to purchase that building and make it an exclusive Harley-Davidson retailer. It didn’t take long for this to happen. In a little less than a year St. Charles Harley-Davidson had its own amazing building. Big St. Charles carries tons of major brands. Including Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM, Polaris Slingshot, CanAm off-road, Can-Am Spyder, Sea-Doo, Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle. They stock thousands of parts and accessories and have two full service shops. They also offer a beginners riding course for new riders. Now you know why they live by the motto GO BIG or GO HOME.
Don’t we all like motorcycles, burnouts, brews and babes? Page 26

ON THE HORIZON
Written By Andrew Blanton
Sounds like a good time to me!! Big St. Charles has the largest bike night in the Midwest that occurs, the first Thursday in April and continues through September. During Each bike night they also have The Big St. Charles Motorsports Calendar Girl Search Event hosted by The Rizzuto Show 105.7, The Point and catered by Shamrocks Pub & Grill. Each event features FREE food, drinks, vendors, as well as a unique theme and amazing entertainment. If you have never been you are missing out on a great time. Once you attend one, you will be hooked. You will want to attend all of them.
NOW, for the exciting news about the new Harley-Davidson Dealer I mentioned. Recently Brad (owner of Big St. Charles Motorsports) had been thinking about expanding again. He heard there was a Harley dealership in O’Fallon, Illinois that was thinking about selling. Brad called them up and they got into some negotiations. The next thing we knew, there was an announcement that Frieze Harley-Davidson had closed, and Green Mount Road Harley-Davidson had opened.
Green Mount Road Harley-Davidson plans on doing everything that St. Charles does. They will stock tons of accessories, parts, bikes, and have a full-service shop with certified technicians. They will be bringing in tons of new motorcycles, and I mean tons. They have forty new Harley’s in route as we speak and close to one hundred used Harleys. If its parts you want, parts you shall have! They will have anything you need or want for you Harley- Davidson.
When you pull up to Green Mount Road Harley, the only thing you can think is WOW. It is huge, and it is gorgeous. When you walk in you will be greeted immediately by one or more of their amazing staff. They are so friendly and so helpful. But, they also give you your space to walk around to soak it all in. There is so many bikes there, you will need a minute or two to glance around. If you like one of the bikes and are interested in purchasing one, they have free test rides for qualified riders. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

Green Mount Road Harley-Davidson is your new destination in Illinois. You will feel like part of the family right when you walk through the front doors. If you have ever been to St. Charles Harley-Davidson or St. Charles Motorsports you know that they will treat you like family, no matter what. You will feel the same at Green Mount Road Harley. Whether you’re purchasing a motorcycle, parts, accessories, or just stopping by to look around or attend one of the many awesome events. You will feel right at home at either location. They are a true destination for motorsports enthusiasts. From day one, they operated with one promise, make the customers happy, and they are great at doing just that.

2019 H-D Model Year and the Future
H
ow’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here to give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. As our last bike night for the year has come to an end with a big bang the Fall is around the corner and the trees will slowly be changing. Hoping for the Winter weather to come in late in the year so the streets don’t get messed up with the salt on the roads. This years Annual Dealer Meeting was held in San Diego and WOW! What a lot of new things ahead of us in the Harley-Davidson world. I want to touch base on some of the new product and bikes this year and the ones coming in our near future and the new approach Harley is going after. The newest bike to hit the open road is the all new Softail FXDR 114! This bike when it first came out on the stage made me think V-Rod. Once the floor opened and I could get close and sit on the bike my thoughts seemed correct to me with major changes. This bike is putting out 119 ft lbs of torque and with it weighing in at 637lbs that’s a lot of power for such a light bike. Some of the ways Harley was able to take the weight off the bike was with an all new aluminum swingarm & subframe along with Alloy and Composite components. Get right off the stock Slip-on and put the all new Titanium with Carbon fiber end cap and muffler shield from Screamin’ Eagle which is half the weight of the stock and you can see what you get. More performance and shedding the pounds. As it may appear to be a solo riding bike you do have an option for a pop on passenger seat & pegs that still allows you access to the little storage compartment. Make sure to come in a check this bike out in person, especially if you are a V-Rod fan and was upset when Harley let the family go because you will be very pleased. On to the touring and trike family’s and some of the changes that was made. All Special models now come from the factory with an 114ci Mil Eight motor. Also you will have the option to get the all new 6.5” GTS touch screen that will work with all touch screen gloves. Also it is made of the same glass surface as most of the smart phones that we have. Another feature that will make the Apple product riders happy is the ability for CarPlay. You will have to purchase either the push to talk harness and a plug in headset or the WHIM and blue tooth headset which I like the best so you have a clean look on the bike as that hides inside the fairing. All CVO’s have the WHIM from the factory so you are ready for blue tooth communication. For the Tri-Glide and Free Wheeler they have all new suspension & what you have all been waiting for Reflex linked brakes with ABS! Another awesome feature is Traction control so those wet roads will be a breeze! Let’s move on to some of the new Parts that are available and on display at the dealership. For safety Harley came out with an all new 7” LED Daymaker Adaptive headlight. This headlight has 12 LED spot lights that activate with the lean of the bike and help give you light in the places the previous LED lights wouldn’t. You would have noticed this more as you are riding in the mountains or banked roads and some of the road becomes lost in front of you. Another new product that a lot of the new heritage owners have been asking for the passenger is floorboards and the brackets are finally here. New luggage is available also and is called the Black Standard Line. This has the Signature #1 logo in the corner of the bags. These are available for handlebar, sissy bars, swing arm & two styles of throw over saddlebags. Every year Harley comes out with some limited paint sets. This year they had three different styles which only have 150 sets each. The names of them are Tagged, LA Jolla & Grandstand. The Grandstand was my favorite and we wanted to try and get one on the showroom floor. Well we got the call and had the option of choosing which bike we wanted it for. We chose the Streetglide Special! This Black Denim & Fierce Orange paint that is separated with a hand applied brush aluminum look really popped as soon as I seen one on the floor. We are expecting to see it sometime in December and will be on the showroom floor once it arrives. A couple more new paint to match items that’s new this year is the Road Glide fairing spoiler. This makes the outer fairing flow nicely all along the front of the frame and
Page 32

around the oil cooler. Also what a lot have been asking for on the touring bikes are paint to match mid frame deflectors. Now you don’t have to go to your local painter in hopes to match your color. Two new Screamin’ Eagle products that I really liked this year was the new Timing cover that you can put your motor size and what stage you have in the heart of the beast and show off your bragging rights. Also Harley had a really cool display that featured some of the major aftermarket exhaust company’s slip-ons along with a stock exhaust set up and the all new Screamin’ Eagle Street Cannon’s. Wow what a deeper sound they had and it was nice to really hear the comparison right in front of you. They truly had a deeper sound then any of the aftermarket companies and really made you think twice about the myth of Screamin’ Eagle slip-ons aren’t loud enough. The last of products I want to talk briefly about is two new Collections. The Kahuna is available in Gloss Black & Chrome with options from Derby covers to all the foot controls and both Heated and non heated grips. The other one that really stood out to me was the Dominion Collection. This one is available in Anodized Gloss Black and Bronze. This kit has a lot more option then ever before. From all the motor covers, foot controls, the smallest DOT mirrors and grips. The cool thing about them all is you can mix and match different colors off accent trips from brushed black, Bronze, Brushed orange & aluminum. Also on the engine parts you have an option of the HDMC engraved in the trim pieces. Now for what we have all been hearing about and some have seen the first prototype. The all new Electric motorcycle coming in August of 2019, LiveWire! This torque machine has no clutch and will put you back in your seat at the twist of the throttle. We are signed up to be a dealer and will have our shop looked over the next couple months and will know by the end of the year if we will be the first of 150 dealers to have the opportunity for the all new family of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. As the first one is released Harley plans to expand the line with smaller electric bikes by 2022. We have been told that the electric battery charging stations will fully charge a bike within 2-4 hours on the “pumps” and have an adapter for your 110 outlet that will charge in 8-10 hours. Also in the mix of the electric bike Harley-Davidson tossed us all out a little teaser of what is to come the year of 2020 and that is the all new middle weight bikes. The first of these bikes will be the Adventure Touring 1250cc Pan America. This bike will take you on and off road so you can go anywhere your heart desires. Next is the 1250cc Custom. This bike gives you a bobber look with an all new motor that I hope makes some amazing power and you never know might be the next Harley flat tracker. Also changing things up completely will be the 975cc Streetfighter. This will bring the crotch rocket group into the Harley world and beyond. As we didn’t get much info on pricing or specs and didn’t get to touch and feel the newest lines to come the next couple of years a close up view really got me excited for Harley’s future. The future of Harley-Davidson and going after the younger group and riders that would never would of come to the Harley side will. I also think the current riders will as well once they get to see and ride one. I can’t wait to site and ride one of these new bikes once they are released. Come in to many of our fall events we have planned and check out all the new product first hand. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and please come into St. Charles Harley-Davidson and ask for me, Zach White or give me a call @ 636-946-6487 and also by email, zach@stcharlesharleydavidson. com to set up a consultation! I’m here to make all your Harley-Davidson dreams come true!

THE “SS” NOVA Page 44-45

THE “SS” NOVA
he Chevrolet NOVA is a very well known car and loved by many, it has been around for years. It was introduced in this First Generation body style in 1962 and was pretty much the same body style up until 1965. With most body styles and models, you had a lot of options to from which you can choose. If you had an options number, you could get anything you wanted. Some people would opted for the NOVA / Chevy II; an upgraded model with an upgraded price tag. What made this ride even sweeter was the Hard Top SS options on your order. These little Chevy II body styles have gone through a lot of life style changes over the years, whether it be a Custom, Gasser, Race car, a full out Show car or even if they were kept stock, they looked great. But for Jerry Neuhaus he chose to go with a Restomod, which means you build it the way you want it so you can drive and enjoy it. That is exactly what Jerry and his wife Debbie do as often as they can. Here’s a little back ground on Jerry. Jerry has loved cars his entire life. When he was 24 years old he worked at a transmission shop. Sometimes people Page 44
www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
would bring in cars for work, and never pick them up. One day, Jerry’s boss said he had 3 cars to take to the dump that people did not pick up. Jerry ask what kind of cars they were. His boss told him one was a 1966 Chevy Impala station wagon. Jerry said he would take that wagon off his hands. Jerry fixed up the station wagon and drove it for about six months. One day a friend ask him if he would sell the station wagon because he knew someone who needed a bigger car for his family. Jerry said he might, so the guy came over and looked at the station wagon. Jerry could not believe it when the guy pulled up in a 1963 Chevy Nova SS. After the guy test drove the Station Wagon, the guy said I want this car, “What do I have to do to make this deal?” Jerry said Give me $50.00 and that 63 Nova you are driving. The deal was made and they were both drove away happy. This was 43 years ago. Jerry really liked the Factory look but we all have to make changes of some kind, so he started with the body. Jerry and his son Jerry Paul replaced the two quarter panels, did some body work and painted the car with Sikkens paint. Crager SS wheels and BF Goodrich tires were added for the overall look. They drove this SS many years in the Basic-Nice cruising mod. He noticed a large group of their friends started going out of town for three day car cruise and shows. There might even have been a little street racing involved but after finding an old Gasser a little faster than he thought he came home for some upgrades. Now it is a Little Nasty SS with plenty of THUMP to play with. He added Dart heads, a roller cam, headers, Flow Master mufflers to his 350 cubic inch motor and added 3:73 gears to the rear end. A 4L60 transmission is scheduled to go in this winter. This SS has been a very special part of Jerry’s life since he was able to spend a lot of time working on it with his Son, Jerry Paul over the many years he has owned it. In my opinion he needs to line up with those Gassers again to see if all that work he has done over the years truly panned out.
