When history is made
We have some pretty exciting news to share with you.
Last month, the Full Moon Hotel was recognised at the Queensland Hotels Association Awards for Excellence, taking home not one but three awards:
Best Overall Hotel - Metropolitan
Best Hotel Bar - Jim's Bait & Tackle
Best in Training
We've been in hospitality for more than two decades. We started out at a little country pub that needed a lot of love, lived upstairs with three young kids, and did whatever needed to be done. Those early years taught us that great hospitality is built on people, not buildings.
That belief has carried us here, to the Full Moon, and to this moment.
The Best in Training award reflects something we've always felt strongly about: investing in the people around us. The Best Hotel Bar award is especially close to our hearts. Jim's Bait and Tackle is named after my grandfather, Jim Dowling, a lifelong publican and passionate fisherman, and was our way of bringing family history and Sandgate's rich coastal heritage into this space.
And Best Overall Hotel? That one belongs to every single person who has walked through our doors, worked alongside us, and helped make the Full Moon what it is today.
We are so proud to call this community home. Thank you for your support, your loyalty, and for choosing to spend your time with us.

Classics to try this July
This July, we're taking it back to the classics in Moonlight Bar. Whether you're revisiting an old favourite or discovering an iconic cocktail for the first time, our July cocktail specials celebrate four timeless recipes that have stood the test of time. Each pour has its own story to tell.
Grasshopper
A sweet, creamy cocktail with refreshing mint and rich chocolate flavours, the Grasshopper was created by Philip Guichet at Tujague's in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1918, and quickly became a classic after-dinner indulgence.
Paloma
Bright, citrusy and wonderfully refreshing, the Paloma combines tequila with grapefruit for a crisp finish. Widely regarded as Mexico's signature cocktail, it is believed to have emerged in the 1950s after grapefruit soda was introduced to the country.
Side Car
A timeless balance of Cognac, orange liqueur and fresh lemon juice, the Sidecar is a zesty, sophisticated classic thought to have been created in either Paris or London around 1922, shortly after World War I.
Boulevardier
Rich, bittersweet and spirit-forward, the Boulevardier blends whiskey, Campari and sweet vermouth. It was created in Paris in 1927 by American writer Erskine Gwynne and remains a favourite for lovers of bold, classic cocktails.

Diamantina Wagyu Rump with chimichurri butter
Wagyu is back on the menu this July, and this time it's better than ever.
Our 400g Diamantina Wagyu Rump showcases premium beef reared in the open plains of West Queensland. Boasting a Marble Score of 6-7, this cut delivers the rich flavour, tenderness and buttery texture that Wagyu lovers keep coming back for.

Maikel has been a valued part of the Full Moon Hotel team since 2019, bringing her skills and passion as a qualified chef into the heart of our kitchen.
Over the years, she has become a key leader within the team, known for her steady presence, strong work ethic, and commitment to quality.
Maikel takes real pride in her craft, with a particular love for cooking steaks and seafood linguini —a reflection of the care and attention she brings to every service.
We’re grateful to have Maikel as part of our team and appreciate the leadership and consistency she brings each day.
