El Cabildo de Fuerteventura, a través del Servicio de Cultura, ha otorgado el contrato de suministro para la adquisición de dos obras pictóricas del reconocido artista Juan Ismael González Mora. Las pinturas, tituladas ‘Nivaria de los navegantes, 1952’ y ‘Retrato de mi tío el violinista, 1945’, formaban parte de la colección de la Galería Artizar, de la empresa Pintomares S.L., y han sido adquiridas por 80.000 euros. Esta iniciativa se enmarca dentro del compromiso del Cabildo de exhibir las obras del artista, nacido en Fuerteventura en 1907. Por ello, en el año 2003, la Institución Insular inauguró el Centro de Arte Juan Ismael (CAJI), en Puerto del Rosario, dedicado a este autor quien, junto a Óscar Domínguez, son considerados los dos grandes pintores surrealistas de Canarias. Desde su inauguración, el Cabildo ha adquirido diferentes obras del artista, creando una colección propia del pintor. Hasta la fecha, el CAJI cuenta con alrededor de cuarenta y siete piezas de arte.
Las dos piezas que se han adquirido ahora son fundamentales para la colección. Una de ellas es un retrato del tío del artista, quien era violinista, y es considerada una de las más importantes dentro de la serie de retratos que realizó el autor. La otra es una pieza clave dentro del surrealismo español. Con estas adquisiciones, se eleva el nivel de importancia de la colección de arte Juan Ismael y se le otorga un mayor valor patrimonial al Centro de Arte.
Two new paintings from the painter Juan Ismael for Fuerteventura

The Culture Council of Fuerteventura’s Cabildo has given its approval for the purchase of two paintings from the well-known artist Juan Ismael González Mora. The paintings are called “Nivaria de los navegantes” (the navigators’ Nivaria) from 1952 and “Retrato de mi tío el violinista” (Portrait of my uncle the violinist), from 1945, which were part of the collection of the Artizar Gallery, of Pintomares S.L., and were acquired for 80.000 Euros. This initiative is organised within the Cabildo’s commitment to exhibit the artist’s creations, who was born in Fuerteventura, in 1907. This is why, in 2003, the Cabildo inaugurated the Juan Ismael Art Centre in Puerto del Rosario, dedicated to this artist, who, together with Óscar Domínguez, is considered amongst the greatest surrealist painters of the Canaries.
Since its inauguration, the Cabildo has acquired va- rious creations of the artist and created a collection for this painter. To date, the Juan Ismael Art Centre exhibits forty-seven pieces of art.
The two paintings that have just been added to the collection are fundamental. One of them is a portrait of the artist’s uncle, who was a violinist, and is considered one of the most important paintings within the series of portraits he painted. The other is a key painting for Spanish surrealism. With those two new paintings, the level of the Juan Ismael art collection becomes more important, which adds to the Art Centre’s asset value.
In addition to the paintings, the Juan Ismael Art Centre also possesses a collection of his poetry manuscripts. Juan Ismael González Mora was as much a painter as he was a poet, his manuscripts represent an important part of his artistic legacy.
