The writer Mar Romera teaches emotional intelligence techniques

The writer, speaker and teacher, Mar Romera, animated, in July, a training course aimed at professionals from Fuerteventura who are involved directly with young people and addictions. This activity was organised by the Service of Information and Prevention of Addictions (SIPA) of the Cabildo’s Council of Social Action.

The SIPA is organising this course to create new therapeutic alternatives and deal with current challenges related to addictions.

Mar Romera is an instructor, a writer and speaker, and a teacher, who graduated in Pedagogy and

Psycho-pedagogy. Furthermore, she is a specialist in emotional intelligence and the author of various books such as “Educar sin receta” (educating without a recipe), “La escuela que quiero” (the school I want), amongst others. She is also the president of the Francesco Tonucci Pedagogy Association. During the course, the teacher introduced participants to various techniques in emotional intelligence, focussing her speech on the value of emotions in the teaching process, quoting authors such as Aristotle or Darwin. She also pointed out the importance of identifying the motor responses that enable us to recognise different emotions. About thirty people participated, experts in various areas and institutions, such as those from the Teams for Minors and Prevention of the different ayuntamientos of the island, the Team of Risk of the Centre South group of municipalities, the Education Council of the Cabildo, SIPA, the Cabildo’s service for Minors, the project “Previene Salud” (Health prevention) of the Cabildo, Adsis, Yrichen, as well as the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Centres of the island and the mental health units of the Canarian Health Service.
