Aruba has so much to offer, so make sure you connect with its people, culture, and sights and discover what makes this, One Happy Island.
The island of Aruba is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a country that counts Dutch nationals as its citizens. In the beginning, the island was populated by descendants of the Arawak tribe of Venezuela.
Europeans first arrived in the 15th century, followed by Spanish rule until 1635, after which the British ruled for a few years, who were then replaced by the Dutch. In 1986, Aruba obtained a separate status as an autonomous country in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Antilla is a sunk German freighter located a few minutes away from Malmok Beach, Aruba’s most popular dive site.
An insight into Aruba’s gold mining past can be found at Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins on the northern coast. The Aruba Historical Museum is housed in Fort Zoutman.
Aruba has so much to offer, so make sure you connect with its people, culture, and sights and discover what makes this, One Happy Island.
Aruba’s fresh seafood pairs beautifully with the fluffy pan bati, a sweet pancake with a savory taste. Pastechi is a pastry stuffed with cheese. Veggies or protein can be stuffed inside. Keshi yena, a Dutch-inspired dish, is usually made by hollowing out Gouda cheese and stuffing it with a spicy chicken filling.
In Aruba, Balashi and Chill are the most popular beers. Aruba Ariba is a classic island cocktail made with Coecoei (an Aruban liquor), vodka, banana liqueur, and local rum.
A colorful city, Aruba’s capital
Oranjestad is home to the island’s largest shopping and dining area along its Main Street, which is lined with colorful, Dutch-style buildings. In addition to iconic worldwide brands offering leather, jewelry, designer fashions and more, guests can find local stores stocked with Aruban crafts and Dutch favorites such as cheese and chocolates. In this shopping paradise, you can find the products of Aruba’s best artists and craftspeople.
Over a dozen different types of cuisine are available at restaurants, cafes, and bars in downtown Oranjestad. Aruban classics, Brazilian, Chinese, Dutch, Indian, Italian, Japanese,
Mediterranean, Mexican, steak houses, and more are only a sample of the eatery choices.
Since Arubans are close to South America and influenced by three
different cultural reigns, they have developed into a highly diverse population of almost 90 different nationalities that combine to create an inviting, welcoming community rich in cuisine, art, sport, and lifestyle.
Aruba is part of the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao).
Aruba’s official language is Dutch, but the majority of the population speaks Papiamento, a Spanish Portuguese-Dutch creole.
The capital of Aruba is Oranjestad, located on the western coast of the island.
Aruba is home to the only natural flamingo population in the Caribbean.
Aruba is home to the Arikok National Park, which covers approximately 20% of the island.
The culinary scene in Aruba has seen tremendous growth and evolution in recent years with a renewed focus on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and incorporating international flavors and techniques. With a diverse array of dining options ranging from street food vendors to high-end restaurants, Aruba has become a destination for foodies from all over the world.
Dinner at Papiamento Restaurant is an experience no one will ever forget. Surrounded by a lush garden, around a turquoise, sparkling pool with twinkling lights in the tree branches, the setting is magical.

Q: What continues to inspire you to grow your family business, and why Aruba?
Dan & Raj Chugani: We have several answers. Number 1 would be to make our Parents proud. We grew up in very humble surroundings and started this business to give our kids a better opportunity. Today we are blessed to have a successful business with our many faithful clients and have a legacy that will be continued by our children.
parents. Kay was short form for our Dad’s name and our Mom’s name started with S, hence Kay’s. We truly believe their blessings are with us as we have grown to 6 Caribbean Islands and 9 retail stores.
Number 2 is to ensure that we make Aruba better. We hope to inspire by giving back and to create a lasting legacy on the island and to make a better community for our future generations.
Q: Where did you start and where does the name Kay’s name come from?
Dan & Raj Chugani: We are a family owned and operated business in the Caribbean for 35+Years. We founded the business in 1989 on St.Maarten. When deciding upon a name, we wanted to incorporate the blessings of our
Q: How have you handled the changing retail environment in Aruba and growth of your family business?
Tesh Chugani: We believe in a saying that we repeat to our entire team often, Expansion with Integrity! When we choose to expand, we ensure that first and foremost, that we have the right team in place to pass on our mission statement of “Luxury with a Family Touch”. We also ensure that our production factory and family design team are ready to ensure that each store has all designs and unique gemstones with no compromise to our quality of product.
Q: What continues to motivate you on a daily basis in Aruba 35 years later?
Tesh Chugani: This is simple, I have a deep passion for our clients that walk through our doors. There is a true meaning to our saying, “walk in as a friend, leave as family.” It never ceases to humble me when everyone leaves the beach on their vacation time see our new jewelry collections, shop for family & friends, and share family updates. The success of our family business would not exist if it wasn’t for their loyalty and commitment to our mission statement.
