Circus Expansion Project
We are excited to be celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Flying High Circus and to share our plans for the future of this beloved campus landmark and student activity. The Circus began in 1947, Florida State’s first year as a coeducational campus, as a novel way to provide a physical activity for men and women to participate in together. Over the years, it has grown into an enduring FSU tradition and engages students in unique out-of-classroom experiences. Since its debut performance 75 years ago, The Circus’ core values have remained constant and is a wonderful example of FSU’s motto – Vires, Artes, Mores. The Circus continues to teach students strength under pressure, the dedication it takes to master a new skill and the importance of teamwork and trust. The Flying High Circus has also grown and developed over the decades. Shows that were first performed in the old campus gymnasium and outdoor fields now have a home under our beautiful Big Top. Students can participate in over twenty different acts, design imaginative costumes, and learn every aspect of production.
As the Circus continues to grow, so grows the need for a new center, for bigger and better teaching space, for more storage space of our growing equipment inventory, and public amenities for our sold-out shows. During this milestone year, we will be launching our campaign for the Flying High Circus Project to provide room for continued growth and expanded opportunities for our students. Whether you are a Circus Alumni, a proud parent, or an adoring fan, please consider a donation to the FSU Flying High Circus Expansion. As the Circus celebrates its 75th year, we will kick off an expansion campaign to ensure the permanence of the Circus on FSU’s campus and broaden its footprint. This expansion will provide larger practice facilities, a ticket office, public amenities, merchandise space and so much more for our growing Circus program.
Recognition To celebrate and recognize your philanthropic commitment to this project and to the future of the FSU Flying High Circus, we are creating a brick program. Bricks and pavers will be featured in the new Circus Pavilion entryway and provide the opportunity for you to leave your legacy to the Circus. Significant gifts will also be recognized on a donor wall on the interior of the new pavilion.
