Love Talk

Understanding W e hear it in most of our songs, our great stories and

movies are written for it, but are we actually taking time out to really learn about love all our lives. Are we studying what love is, the stages of love and how to maintain it once we get it? For as much as we are consumed with this topic, I really have not seen to many really seek to learn about it, understand it and live it until the heart breaks. Lets change this narrative.

16/F-STYLE CHICAGO /

When relationships aren’t going well, we want to repair them quickly. But we can’t fix in a day something that we’ve created over months or years of withdrawals. We can’t talk ourselves out of problems that we behaved ourselves into. In addition, relationships are so important to us that we’re almost always interested in their status. It’s easy to get anxious to know how things stand. But if we try to find out too soon, we risk making a withdrawal. Testing a relationship too soon is like pulling up a young plant to see if it has taken root. As we mentioned above, deposits should be made for their own sake, as an expression of love, not measured for their effect. The effect will come,

but only if we have patience to allow it to take its natural course. When we live the primary laws of love, we encourage people to live the primary laws of life Primary LAWS These are fundamental and timeless principles that express the orderly and lawful nature of life. We become effective by following these primary laws The primary law of love. It is that love must be unconditional. There are also “ primary laws of life,” laws that express the value of such principles as integrity, creativity, self discipline, and appreciation. The nature of these pri-

mary laws is such that learning to live any one law helps us live them all. As we become more able to express unconditional love, for example, we also become more able to live with integrity, creativity, self discipline, and appreciation. This interconnection among the primary laws is also a factor in our relationship with other people. When we love people unconditionally for example, we also encourage them to live with integrity, creativity, self discipline and appreciation. That is what is meant by “ when we live the primary laws of love, we encourage people to live the primary laws of life.” Often in our relationships we want to control other people. At the same time, we resist their attempts to control us, scarcely remembering that if we resist control, they no doubt resist it as well. The fact is, neither we nor they can be controlled by anyone else. We are each responsible for our own control. We can be influenced, however, and we can influence others. Influence comes from a Latin word

meaning “ to flow,” which suggests how influence and control are different. Control is based on force and creates resistance. Influence is based on those primary laws of life and love and allows people, of their own free will, to flow in a direction that leads them to cooperate with one another.

“When we live the primary laws of love, we encourage people to live the primary laws of life”

When we make sincere deposits in a relationship, we set up conditions that allow us to have influence. But we don’t gain control of the other person, because those same conditions also allow us to be influenced. This MUTUAL influence is what makes relationships effective, and it comes from making emotional deposits rather than just always thinking of yourself and take and withdraw depleting the others emotional bank. We can control nothing in a relationship but our deposits or withdrawals, but that’s really all that we need to control. The choice is yours!

Industry Imagine a universe where only Black people have superpowers! According to Deadline, you won’t have to imagine much longer because Warner Bros. just acquired the “Black” series which portrays what life would be like if only Black people had those special powers.

NEWS

According to Because of Them We Can, creators Kwanza Osajyefo, and Tim Smith III originally came up with the concept more than a decade ago, gaining visibility after a Kickstarter campaign raised over $90,000.

36/F-STYLE CHICAGO /

An adaptation of the “Black Mask” comic series, “Black” has released an entire universe of books and comics that feature original artists and writers like Jennifer Johnson, Liana Kangas, Jamal Igle, and Khary Randolph. DC’s Titans, Bryan Edward Hill wrote the script for “Black” which centers a young man who not only survives a horrific event but comes to the realization that he belongs to a larger group of gifted people as well.

Those individuals partner to fight against a clandestine association who seeks to possess and control them – the main character then finds himself in the middle of a war for control of humankind. Osajyefo hopes that this series will provide a more accurate representation of Black people in the media. “Part of the inspiration for ‘Black’ came from my experiencing the lack of representation in comics publishing and how that directly relates to the scarceness of Black characters,” said Osajyefo. “For most comics’ history, white outcasts have been used as allegories for marginalized groups while claiming to reflect the world outside our window, ” he continues. “‘Black’ strips away this veneer to juxtapose superpowers with race while allowing Black people to see ourselves authentically in media and inviting wider audiences into parts of our experience. We’re ex

cited to bring this story to everyone through film and thankful to Studio 8 for believing in it.” While there’s no set date on when “Black” will come to the big screen, we’ll be keeping our eye and ears open. We’ve recently added more TV shows and movies. Enjoy great titles for everyone: Action & Adventure, Documentaries, Comedy, Children & Family, Sci-Fi, and more. Plus, catch up on full seasons of hit TV shows from the beginning.

his year FS Magazine has had the amazing pleasure to experience this amazing New Girl Group. Remember the name Herstory! They are the brain child of Chicago’s own grammy award winning John Hill. With his guidance the group is now brushing shoulders with the record label of J. Prince of Rap A Lot Records who have had artist such as the legendary Scarface, Too Short, Do or Die, The Geto Boys and many more. Because of Hill’s efforts he has secured the group to be on the top 40 charts and he is just getting started. I have personally seen this young group work together, create together and play together. They have truly become a family full of great laughs and many great memorable moments. Being in their late night studio session and hearing their arsenal of songs I have to say you better not sleep on this dynamic Trio! They have so much coming to the table and best believe the industry will truly embrace their sound and soul. It’s hard to explain the feelings of the moments shared with this family but trust me when I say, I have seen many groups in this Chicago Industry and this group by far break the mold! Good talent, no egos and real talent! Their Music will be in rotation on the FS Music Channel so you will never miss a song! So who is Herstory? What are they about? et me first tell you that this young woman is far beyond your typical model. She is a Navy vet, ran track, plays flag foot ball, an educator and so proud to say my fit sorority sister who is also a personal trainer, but more over not so common to many industry models she truly has a heart of gold. Let me tell you this story. At our last shoot I had two bags that had to weight close to 87-90 pounds. We were on the first floor of the building but the building had steep steps. I carry the equipment bags all the time, I know they are heavy for me and I must say I am pretty strong. Seeing that I was tired Ari grabs one of the bags against my demands and without struggle she carries it down the stairs faster than I could ever. ( In my Kat Williams Voice) It was at this moment that I knew this was an amazing woman!

FS What got you first interested in the modeling industry? -Honestly, I was doing a favor for someone by taking pictures for him to put on fliers to help promote his fitness business. When I saw how those pictures came out, I wanted to see and take more. Partnership with Marcus Fizer on his photo projects has provided a lot of opportunity for me to identify, unlock, and develop my abilities. FS did you have any mentors in the industry and if so what was some memorable advise they gave you?

-I never saw myself being able to access or be successful in the modeling industry, so I never looked up to anyone. I don’t currently have any mentors, though I would love to have one. I think it’s important to have someone to bounce ideas, experiences, and thoughts off of. I do, however, have friends in the industry that have my best interest at heart. Those people I stay in contact with about my journey. 67/F-STYLE CHICAGO

FS If you where given super

powers what would you want them to be and how would you use them? If I was given a super power, I would choose Telekinesis. I would love to have the ability to move objects with the sheer power of mind control. Sadly, they wouldn’t be put to good use. I would just use them to do regular, household chores.

brown—Diet Mountain Dew and Fresca are colored with brominated vegetable oil, a chemical used in rocket fuel and flame retardants. 3. Sugar-Free Snacks Think you’re doing better by eating “sugar-free?” Think again. If you’ve become thicker around the middle since turning 30, it may be a sign that your liver isn’t functioning optimally. Avoiding toxins like artificial sweeteners will help the vital organ work more efficiently, and in turn, slim your middle. To jump-start the

detox process, kick foods made with fake sweeteners (like sugar-free gum, candies, and snacks) to the curb and go for low sugar or things made with real/raw sugar. Hot Dogs 4. Salami and Hot Dogs Men, pay special attention to this: A 2014 study published in the Journal Epidemiology found an association between eating processed meats like salami and hot dogs to lower sperm count. And interestingly enough, the meat’s saturated fat content—a nutrient previously associated with poor sperm quality—wasn’t to blame. For a safe bet, limit the amount of processed meat you consume.

Try to get all-natural and grass-fed, both of which limit the number of hormones you’re eating.

Its always good to have a make up artist who also can be your model when you are in a creative mood. As a photographer energy is very important to me in a shoot.

Its always good to have people on your team that get you and is there to actually help the creative process. This is what I found in Monica. Not only does she do make up flawlessly but she was also there to hold lights when needed and went above and beyond the call of duty for the shoot. I highly recommend using both her product and services . Just playing around in the studio this is what we created in under 30 mins. There will be so much more of her work coming soon in next month’s FS issue
