Isabel Macht: A Renaissance Woman
from Fall 2023
BY CHARLIE TRYDER
Playing athletics at the high school level requires time management skills for any student-athlete, but for Isabel Macht, a three season athlete, a student council president, a musician, an actress, and an outstanding student taking a challenging curriculum, it was essential for survival. Isabel believes that it is her involvement in athletics that enabled her to hone her time management skills to a new level at Fryeburg Academy.
In the fall, Isabel runs cross country, and in the winter, she communes with the natural world while nordic skiing through the Maine woods. In the spring, Isabel returns to running as a member of the track team. It is not lost on her that she has a packed schedule, “To participate in athletics I have to make sure that I take care of classroom things like homework and practicing music. I happily do it all because I wouldn’t want to go to school without athletics.” one of the humanities. While discussing his primary academic interest, it would not be surprising to see him study something social studies related, “History has always interested me. I took AP US history last year and I’m taking AP European history this year.”
In this fall of his senior year, while finishing his college applications, Ethan shares the following message for future Raiders, “Start preparing for college. You don’t have to pick one immediately, just make sure your transcript and reels are getting done.”
Being the practical soul that he is, Ethan summarizes his FA experience straightforwardly. He recognizes that life sometimes is predestined and we have little choice at times, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make the choice to savor the opportunities we have, “Although I didn’t have much of a choice going to Fryeburg Academy because my father works there, I wouldn’t have chosen differently if I did.”
Ethan’s impact on the FA student life scene has been significant, though perhaps a bit understated. The reality is that all too often the squeaky wheel gets the oil, and Ethan just keeps moving forward with a quiet determination. He is the guy who goes about his business, contributes generously, and appreciates the opportunity that he has been given. Sakash, who hinted that Ethan’s approach to music paralleled his athletic and academic approach, sums up Ethan’s presence at FA succinctly, “He’s a perfect example of the athlete, scholar, musician.”
