APPLAUSE Suntory Blue Rose
Suntory made the impossible possible—using biotechnology to create the world’s first blue rose in 2004.
Blue pigment does not occur naturally in roses, as they don’t contain delphinidin, the plant pigment that produces the colour blue. For centuries, horticulturists tried and failed to create a blue rose. Driven by our bold spirit of ambition, Suntory embarked on a journey to create the world’s first blue rose in 1990.
After many challenges, we finally succeeded in 2004. We named our blue rose, Applause, which, in the language of flowers means dreams come true. Today, the Suntory Blue Rose Applause continues to delight customers around the world.
