Pearland Cart Use Automated Service FAQ’s

• When will the new service start?

New routes and service dates with the new carts begins Friday, October 1, 2021.

• Will I have to pay for my new cart?

No. Your new bin will be delivered without additional cost. Additional carts are available at an additional cost.

• What is my new service day?

For the vast majority of Pearland residents, service dates will remain the same. Less than 10% of addresses will see a day change. Check out the detailed service map here. You can also check on the new Frontier Waste App or on the Frontier Waste Solutions website by typing in your address.

• What will happen if my service day falls on a holiday?

All of the 2021 - 2022 holiday changes can be found here. We’ll also keep the Frontier Waste App updated with any holiday or emergency route changes. The holiday observance will be very similar to what the previous contract called for, and basically that is that if your service day falls on one of the six observed holidays, your trash will be collected on the next scheduled service day.

An example: If your trash days are Monday and Thursday, during the Memorial Day Holiday week, you would not receive trash service on Monday, and then all wastes would be collected on Thursday.

If your recycling was Monday on Memorial Day, you would wait one week until the next scheduled recycling day which we be the following Monday. Again, all service days and holidays can be found via the approved route maps, the City’s GIS site, the Frontier Waste App, and the Frontier Waste website.

• How do these automated trucks work?

The automated arm comes out, grabs the cart, and dumps it into the truck without the driver getting out.

• Is there a different truck for recycling?

Yes, the recycling truck will be a different unit, but both trucks will operate in the “Side- Load” mechanical arm function

• How do I need to set out my cart to be sure it works with the automation?

Be sure to place your cart facing the street with the wheels closest to the house. It needs to be at least 4ft from mailboxes, cars, or a second cart. It is also best to bag everything to be sure no loose trash flies out on a windy day.

• Who do I call for service questions?

You can call the City of Pearland at 281-652-1600. You may also call Frontier Waste Solutions: 936-258-9035 – and be sure to mention you are a Pearland resident.

• Who do I call for billing or administrative inquiries?

The City of Pearland: 281-652-1600.

• What if I have more trash than can fit into the cart?

Sometimes situations arise when you’ll have more trash than usual. For the occasional event, you can purchase a pick up of additional bags through a pink tag system. These can be ordered by calling Frontier Waste Solutions at 936-258-9035 or through their mobile app or website and selecting the option for Pearland pink tags. The cost is 75 cents per bag. If you will have additional trash beyond what fits in your cart consistently, you can subscribe to additional cart service for $5.95 a month, per cart rented.

• What should I do with the Green Recycle cart can I have now?

The Recycle Cart you have from Waste Management will be removed during mid to late September – you may use the new Recycle Cart from Frontier once your old one is gone, it will get serviced by Waste Management. Your new Recycle Cart will be green with a yellow lid, exactly as your old one is.

• What do I do with my old trash cans that I have used for placing trash out?

Your existing garbage containers belong to you.

There are a number of creative and environmentally friendly ways to repurpose used garbage containers and keep them out of the landfill, such as:

• Extra storage for tools, potting soil, mulch, yard waste

• Rain barrels

• Animal feed storage

• DIY potato/carrot planter

• Collecting recyclables to then dump in your Recycle Cart

If you have any great ideas to repurpose your old containers, please share them with us at admin@mykpb.org and let us know your ideas. If none of the above options work for you, you can potentially recycle your old trash cans.

Frontier Waste and Keep Pearland Beautiful are planning a potential “Recycle Your Old Trash Can” day that would take place during early October at the Stella Roberts Recycling Center in Pearland. This event would allow you to bring your plastic trash can (1,2,3,4,5 & 7) with the Recycling logo or your metal trash can. The trash cans would be washed and sanitized by an onsite service, and then placed in the recycle stream at Stella Roberts. If your trash can is a number 5 plastic type, or none of the above options work for you, you may place it out on your bulky trash day, place a note on it saying, “PLEASE DISCARD” and we will dispose of it in the bulk collection truck.

• What day are brush/bulk/green waste collected?

Brush, bulk, and green waste will be collected together, once a week. As with the other services, you can see the service days for your area via the Route Maps, City GIS map website, Frontier Waste App, or Frontier Waste website. Simply enter your address and you will get the proper information.

• Are there any items that I can’t get rid of through regular or bulky trash days?

Unacceptable Wastes are those that are classified as Hazardous or Special Waste and might violate or endanger any person, party, permit, condition, legal or regulatory requirement, substantial damage to equipment or facilities, or present a danger to the health or safety of the public or employees. These include, but are not limited to:

• Hazardous Wastes – chemicals, corrosives, paint, aerosols, lithium batteries, gasoline, diesel, waste oils, and similar solvents.

• Medical Wastes, used syringes, dead animals, solids or materials from irrigation or sewage lines

• Construction and Demolition Debris, soil, sod, rock, dirt, sand, brick, concrete, excessive dimensional lumber from projects, any inert solid materials, drywall, shingles from roofing project, and other similar “C&D” project material.

• What about my vegetative waste?

This falls under the bulky/ brush trash days and will be picked up accordingly based on service day and proper preparing of bundles and material.

• What about household hazardous waste?

Certain HHW items will be accepted via drop off at Stella Roberts Recycling Center and information about what is accepted, and how it must be prepared to be dropped off can be found by clicking this link Keep Pearland Beautiful (pearlandrecycles.com) and then clicking the HHW link.
