Frontiers is proud to present two very exclusive private mothership departures for 2023 hosted by Lance Peterson.

Guests will be accommodated aboard the El Rey, a 116’ deep sea marine yacht built in 1987 and fully refitted in 2016 and 2022. She offers the best of both worlds: off-the-beaten-path exploration perfectly blended with superyacht amenities. Guests have access to five suites: a master suite, two VIP cabins and two twin cabins. She is also capable of carrying up to 7 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

Her sportfishing companion is Let’s Go, a 42’ Freeman. Combining the oversized cockpit with a very large fuel capacity, the Freeman 42LR has quickly becoming the “go to” long range fishing platform! The ability to comfortably cruise at 45kts opens the playbook on untapped fisheries. Whether it is tournaments, fun fishing, or a day with the family, the Freeman 42LR provides class leading performance. Freeman builds custom boats for those who demand the best in quality, comfort, and performance. Their carefully designed catamaran hull is incredibly stable and comfortable in big seas. It’s one of the most “fishable” boats in the world and is super spacious for up to four anglers and crew.

Magdalena Bay

The central Baja region on the Pacific side is home to Magdalena Bay, one of the world’s greatest fishing locations. Mag Bay is about 600 miles south of San Diego, CA and 200 miles north of the Cabo San Lucas Harbor at the tip of the peninsula. It is about the same size as San Francisco Bay. Fortunately, there is no dependable water source in the region, which has greatly restricted development. There are also no fancy marinas, very few hotels, and a minimal supply of reliable fuel. It’s frankly one of Baja’s last frontiers and there are few other places on Earth where so many billfish congregate so predictably.

Its relative inaccessibility, cutting deep into the mostly uninhabited Pacific side of the central Baja coast, keeps fishing pressure minimal. That creates truly special opportunities to experience packs of striped marlin in every direction and boiling at the surface. November and December are prime months in Mag Bay for striped marlin. It’s also peak season for yellowfin tuna and dorado… plus a lot of the bay species.

Meet your host, Lance Peterson

Baja liveaboard yacht expeditions are hosted by veteran guide, Lance Peterson. With over 25 years of experience in Mexico, thousands of hours on the water, and multiple IGFA world records to his credit, Lance has earned a place among Baja’s fly fishing pioneers. His enthusiasm for Baja is contagious, and his extensive knowledge of its fisheries make him uniquely qualified for leading custom expeditions to the remotest corners of Mexico’s "forgotten peninsula”.

Lance began his career on the famed beaches of the East Cape region, where he’s known as a leading expert in the pursuit of trophy roosterfish from shore. Subsequently, he explored Southern Baja's other renowned fisheries from the mangroves of Magdalena Bay to the vast offshore grounds in both the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez. In addition to his decades of guiding experience, Lance also speaks fluent Spanish and is well versed in local culture and history. He resides in Baja year-round, living off the grid on a remote ranch with his wife.

Lance is a keen fisher with flies and conventional tackle, an avid hunter, artist, and a genuinely great guy. He has guided several of our clients through the years and hosted two groups with Frontiers’ President, Mike Fitzgerald in Belize.
