Families urged to keep supporting academies as potential cash crisis looms PARENTS of children at Winterbourne and Yate international academies have been urged to keep faith with the schools as efforts are made to prevent a potential £1 million deficit. The Ridings’ Federation of Academies is investigating ways of making savings in order to avoid the shortfall. But there are fears it could lead to some parents considering looking at other schools for their children. The National Union of Teachers (NUT) has described the projected deficit as serious but hopes parents will continue to give their support to the schools and staff. Nigel Varley, joint secretary of the NUT in South Gloucestershire, said: “It’s a very serious situation. Our intention is to preserve jobs and working conditions for our members but we are also anxious to preserve community links with the schools.” More on page 2
