Basketball Stars of NY

Basketball Stars are back at Friends to provide you with the best basketball instruction from the top coaches in the city! Join our after-school program and learn how to play the game the right way while participating in weekly games. The program is carefully constructed to teach you the right way to shoot, defend, rebound and much more. Coaches from Basketball Stars include former Division 1 college players. Comic Book Creations Nicole Parcher Calling all comic book lovers! Make your own comic book, using your imagination to create heroes and villains with untold super powers. Comic book artists will also make a poster, card game, mini movie strip and a T-shirt—all featuring their own character designs.

Karma Kids DANCE!

We like to move it, move it! This class will allow young movers and shakers to express themselves on the dance floor. Dancers will learn longer choreographed sequences and will experiment with improvisation and partnering. Focus will be on building confidence, expanding our dance vocabulary and having fun! NYICFF Film Society

Think you’ve got the best taste in movies? Always have an opinion about the latest release? Aspiring critics will have a chance to voice their thoughts by reviewing new films from around the world submitted for the 2015 edition of New York Int’l Children’s Film Festival. Students will become active viewers and think critically about film by watching short and feature film submissions. They will learn the basics of writing captivating reviews by participating in collaborative discussions that will inform programming decisions for the 2015 Festival. Reviews will be published on a class blog, and may be shared with a larger audience in anticipation of the annual event. daily fee $405 + Workshop Fee $275 = $680

Tuesday

Lego Robotics with TEKintellect

Students learn to design and construct original, mechanized models from Lego® components. They receive instruction regarding the scientific principles embedded in the models, and then proceed quickly to a fun, hands-on, multi-sensory experience, in which they construct the models and play with them. Carousels, cranes, dune buggies, conveyer belts, windmills and more will come to life in your child’s hands, through their own effort and ingenuity! At the end of the trimester, students will take home the model they built and can use the components to keep building new creations. daily fee $405 + Workshop Fee $375 = $780

Ride the Roof Kevin Banahan, Sidewalk Surfer Skate Club returns, and whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, there’s room for you to rip it up on the roof at Friends. For beginners, we will cover the basics of skateboarding such as balance, pushing off and kick-turns—no prior experience necessary. For the more advanced, we will have a new array of ramps and rails. On bad weather days, we will train indoors using Vew-Do balance boards to develop strength and refine technique as well as watch instructional videos featuring the pros talking skills and demonstrating favorite tricks. Get Fit with FAT! Girls Only! Lindsey K Yacobush, Certified Fitness Instructor "Get Fit with FAT" is an energetic introduction to the fundamentals of fitness and strength training for young girls. The class covers circuit training, strength training, cardiovascular endurance conditioning and overall body awareness using multiple modalities and training equipment. It's never too early to teach the young women of today how important and esteem boosting it is to be strong, healthy, fit and confident all in a nurturing environment! Corbin’s Crusaders Sports Club

One of NYC premiers sports programs is coming to Friends. Corbin’s will pick up at dismissal time and bring the children to Randall’s Island, Chelsea Piers or a Gym on rainy days and


then take the children directly home following their class. Topnotch coaches will lead classes with international tournament playing and coaching experience with the goal of bringing the fundamentals and enjoyment of every game to each student in the program. This trimester we are offering Boys Lacrosse (Full equipment required: helmet, gloves, stick, shoulder and arm pads) and Coed Soccer. Wednesday

Ceramics Nicole Parcher, Visiting Artist Pinch, roll, carve, model—explore and push the limits of clay’s structural properties. We will create animals, landscapes and abstract constructions as well as cups, plates and bowls. All students will take home fired and glazed work.

Textiles and Design Nora Chavoosian, Artist In this class we will tie-dye, print, weave and sew with fabrics, yarns, beading and more to create soft sculptures, stuffed imaginary creatures, and even wearable art. Come and explore the softer side of your imagination.

BSNY Xtreme Football

Kick off the school year with a spirited drive toward the end zone! Whether our field is the Outer Courtyard or the Playroof, “touch-tackle” rules will ensure safety and excitement while we run, block and pass for yards. This is an all-weather class so lace up your boots and grab a pair of gloves because were playing straight through till November! Fun is only a first down day away! Teen Yoga Karma Kids Yoga Learn effective yogic tools to build inner and outer strength and flexibility while practicing fun Yoga Poses, Partner Poses, Group Poses, Yoga Games and Activities, Restorative Yoga, Flying Partner Yoga, Circus Yoga and more! We'll practice

Ashley's Cooking Academy Chef Ashley Trade in those thinking caps and put on your chef hat! Through Ashley's entertaining curriculum students will learn the fundamentals of cooking and baking. The program will feature math, science, culture, kitchen etiquette, safety and tasting all in one! This inter-disciplinary and hands-on cooking class is fun, delicious and nutritious! After successful completion, students will be rewarded with a certificate of completion and their very own personal cookbook.

Clay World Jorge Cruz, Character Sculptor Using special modeling clay, instructors from Miami Beach’s Clay World will help students create figurines of animals, people, monsters and more! Dodgeball Kevin Banahan, Average Joe Finally, a sports game for the masses! Whether you like to charge the line with a CC Sabathia throwing arm or prefer to hide and wait with the sneakiness of a chess master, dodgeball offers fun and excitement to every style of player. We will mix it up by alternating between the three sets of rules—Army, Jailhouse and Elimination. Open to 5th graders.

Chorus Joanna Pickett, Choral Director Come, sing! This is an opportunity for motivated, enthusiastic singers and vocalists to explore more challenging choral material. With enough participation, part singing will be introduced, along with popular songs and special youthoriented choral arrangements. Healthy and natural development of the young person's singing voice is the underlying principle of the group. Open to 5th graders

Advanced Claymation

The Good School is excited to bring you this unique, advanced class! Students, using the professional animating software Dragonframe, will take on the role of professional film animator in this course exploring expert Claymation with stop motion animation techniques that include: cinematography, story boarding, armature building, and Final Cut Pro editing. daily fee $405 + Workshop $300 = $705
