As we welcome the summer season, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation o each of you for helping make our club such a vibrant and welcoming community. Whether you enjoy our golf course, dining venues, social events, fitness facilities, tennis and pickleball courts, swimming pool, or simply the friendships formed here, your participation enriches the experience for all. The first half of the year has been filled with activity and excitement throughout the club. From successful golf tournaments and recreational programs to social gatherings, family events, and community celebrations, it has been wonderful to see members connecting and enjoying all that our club has to offer.
One of the greatest strengths of our club is the diversity of interests among our membership Every day, members come together from different backgrounds and pursuits, united by a shared appreciation for fellowship, recreation, and the traditions of our club It is this sense of community that continues to distinguish our club and make it a special place for members and their families
As we look ahead to the remainder of the summer, I encourage you to take advantage of the many activities planned throughout the season. Whether participating in a tournament, attending a social event, enjoying a family dinner, relaxing by the pool, or simply spending time with friends, there are countless opportunities to create lasting memories at the club.
Our Board and management team remain focused on preserving the traditions of our club while continuing to enhance the facilities, programs, and experiences that serve the evolving interests of our membership. We appreciate your support, feedback, and ongoing engagement as we work together toward that goal.

I hope this message finds you well! Welcome back to our Quarterly Unicorn Newsletter! After some minor shuffling of our management staff, we are back in action bringing you the latest news from around the Club.
Congratulations to our Men’s Unicorn Champions Adrian Guerrero and his partner Andres Cabral and our Ladies Fairway Festival Gross Champions Lydia Choi and her partner Ailam Newkirk, as well as Net Champions Jenny Kim and Sang Hee Kim. Both events were wonderful and special thanks must go out to both the Men’s and Ladies Tournament Committees for their work putting together very successful weeks on the links!
Special thanks to our wine vendors who helped make this year’s Spring Wine Tasting one of the best ever at the club Executive Chef Peter Phan, Executive Sous Chef Adam Stevens and Food & Beverage Director Shawn Kurete worked tirelessly to bring you a great event and some amazing wine selections Nearly 300 members turned out for the event and kicked off a very busy April!
Please join me in welcoming some new friendly staff members to the Club as Mr. Art Munda has joined our team as Membership Director, Mr. Rodolfo Torres as our Dining Room Floor Manager, Mr. Eric Marquez our new Banquet Captain, and Mr. Dylan Stone our new 1 Assistant Golf Professional. Ms. Gabrielle Niko has taken on a new role as our Member Services Manager and we have also added a new face to our Administration Staff as Ms. Victoria Hamilton has accepted a new position as our receptionist, formerly working as a server with the Food & Beverage Team. st

4 of July is right around the corner so be sure to make your reservations for our annual Fireworks Extravaganza! Also in July, Friendly Hills is proud to be hosting this year’s Sunkist League Swim & Dive finals July 15 through 18 and we can’t wait to cheer on our young athlete’s at the pool! These are very large events so be looking for further information on both the 4 of July Celebration and the Swim & Dive Finals coming soon!
During the off-season at the pool, we were able to replace our pool heater with a new configuration of 3 heaters, and we are ready for the season. Per normal operations, the pool opened on the weekend of May 23 , Memorial Weekend and we will welcome members and guests throughout the summer, until Labor Day on September 7 . rd th
In project news, the Club will embark on a few big projects soon, with the start of construction coming soon on our Ladies Locker Room, Men’s Card Room and one of the biggest projects in Club history, our Irrigation Replacement Project beginning in September. The latter will be a massive undertaking, but the course will stay open throughout construction, with as little impact as we can manage, likely 1 to 1 ½ holes closed throughout the project. We will do our best to keep you informed, daily, regarding any special circumstances during construction and you can anticipate about a 5 to 6 month timeline.
We have added 3 new “advertisement” screens in the downstairs hallway, showing information on upcoming events around the club as well as special messaging and beautiful pictures of the golf course
Last but certainly not least, please join us in congratulating Briana Chacon on earning her LPGA TOUR card! Since joining Friendly Hills with her family in 2023, we've had the privilege of watching Briana's incredible journey firsthand.
A standout at the University of Oregon, Briana became one of the most accomplished golfers in school history She owns the lowest scoring average in Oregon women's golf history, won the 2022 NCAA Albuquerque Regional individual title, earned multiple All-America honors, and competed twice in the Augusta National Women's Amateur
After turning professional, Chacon joined the Epson Tour in 2024 and immediately showed promise, capturing the inaugural Atlantic Beach Classic in her rookie season. But her breakthrough came in 2025. Chacon won both the IOA Championship and the Casella Golf Championship, recorded five top 10 finishes, made 16 cuts in 19 starts, and finished sixth in the Epson Tour's Race for the Card standings
So far in her Rookie season on the LPGA TOUR, Briana has made 3 cuts including a Top 10 finish in the Shoprite LPGA in Galloway, NJ Congratulations Briana, keep up the great work!

Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Soiree
Our “FHCC Hotel” Valentine’s Day celebration was filled with romance, laughter, and memorable moments. From dancing to personalized engravings on a limited edition FHCC key chain, it was a wonderful evening shared among friends and loved ones, it was a truly special event.
Easter Sunday Brunch
Spring was in full bloom at our colorful and sweet Easter Brunch celebration. Families enjoyed a beautiful morning filled with festive treats, petting zoo, train rides and holiday traditions with our special guest, the Easter Bunny.
Brunch at Tiffany’s
Our Breakfast at Tiffany’s-themed Mother’s Day celebration brought elegance, charm, and plenty of special memories. One of our features this year was a Flower Bar to build a bouquet. It was a wonderful opportunity to honor the incredible mothers and mother figures in our community.

wanted to thank you all for the warm welcome you’ve extended to me since my start in January. It has been wonderful getting to know many of you. For those I have yet to meet, I hope to meet you soon!
In here, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a lot of you at our social events such as Easter Brunch and our Spring Wine Tasting. While we cherish the Member Traditions, like the 4 of July Celebration, we are also looking to supplement those with the smaller more intimate events. Golf course updates

s we head into late spring and early summer, I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for helping make this year’s Member-Guest Tournament such a success. The course came through the event in great shape, and I’m very
effort our Golf Course Maintenance team put in leading up to and throughout tournament week. The positive feedback we received from members and guests was greatly appreciated and reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire staff.
With warmer weather now arriving, the golf course is beginning its transition into its main growing season. Our TifTuf Bermuda tee boxes are starting to actively grow and fill in as soil temperatures increase. Members should continue to see improvements in density, color, and recovery over the next several weeks. This is an important time of year for Bermuda turf, and our team will continue focusing on building strong, healthy playing surfaces heading into summer.

Our Kikuyu fairways and roughs are also entering a period of rapid growth. As temperatures rise, the turf will become thicker and more aggressive, which helps improve overall coverage and recovery from play and traffic. During this time, mowing frequency increases, and our team spends additional time maintaining fairway detail and controlling Kikuyu encroachment around tees and greens to keep surfaces clean and defined
Our Poa greens continue to perform well as we move closer to summer conditions Members may notice some natural seasonal changes in texture and speed as temperatures begin to rise. To maintain smooth and consistent putting surfaces, we will continue with light topdressing, rolling, moisture management, venting, and carefully timed plant health applications throughout the season.
Upcoming DryJect Aerification: Monday, June 29th
This time of year, also places a major focus on irrigation management and water efficiency. Daily moisture monitoring, hand watering, and routine irrigation inspections become increasingly important as temperatures climb. Our goal is to maintain healthy and consistent playing conditions while using water as responsibly and efficiently as possible.
As always, we appreciate the continued support from our membership. The transition into summer is one of the busiest and most important times of the year for golf course maintenance, and our team remains committed to providing the best possible conditions for the membership while protecting the long-term health of the golf course
Our current record stands at 1–3–3, and while we are still working toward more wins, the growth happening within this group goes far beyond the scoreboard. Our team is one of the youngest in the league, and week after week I am proud to watch these kids develop not only their golf skills, but also their etiquette, course management, and teamwork — qualities that will serve them well throughout their entire golfing lives.
Our most recent match took us to Glendora Country Club, where the team competed hard and came away with a tie a strong and well-earned result on an away course
JUNIOR GOLF PROGRAM
One of the most rewarding aspects of this league is the opportunity to play at a variety of venues. Competing at Hacienda Golf Club, Yorba Linda Country Club, South Hills Country Club, Glendora Country Club, and our home course here at Friendly Hills exposes our juniors to different layouts, hole designs, grass types, lies, and playing conditions There is simply no better classroom for a young golfer than experiencing the variety this great game has to offer.

who recently joined Friendly Hills as our Banquet Captain Eric comes to us with extensive experience from South Hills Country Club and has already made an incredible impact in his short time here. He has quickly built wonderful relationships with our golf and tennis groups and has been an enormous help in ensuring events run smoothly from start to finish. 2026 FHMGA Unicorn Member-Guest
Another sold out event for this year’s FHMGA Member-Guest. The format for the Unicorn was played in its traditional format. Seven 9hole matches, nine flights, with teams with the highest points from each flight, along with two wild card teams that go on to play the Champions Derby. When the dust settled on Saturday and the final putts were made on the 18th hole, it was Adrian Gurrero and his guest, Andres Cabral coming in with the low Derby score, which gave them the covenant crown. Shoot for the Fat of the Green
always find it interesting when reporters interview some of golf’s greatest champions after a winning round. Whether it’s Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, or another legend of the game, they often give a similar response when asked how they managed difficult pin placements:
"There weren’t too many pins to go after today"
What they mean is simple they aimed for the center, or the “fat,” part of the green rather than attacking every flagstick
The game’s best players understand that aggressively going after a tucked pin can lead to trouble. Missing on the short side of the green often results in a difficult recovery shot and can quickly turn a good round into a bad one By playing to the safer part of the green, they avoid big mistakes and keep themselves in contention
For most golfers, adopting this same strategy can lead to more enjoyable rounds and lower scores. Pins tucked near bunkers, hazards, or the edges of greens are often called “sucker pins” for a reason they tempt players into taking unnecessary risks
The next time you're on the course, consider aiming for the middle of the green instead of attacking every flag. You may find that a smarter target leads to fewer mistakes, lower scores, and a much more enjoyable day on the course

“We've had another season come and go, and another exciting summer season at the racquet center is almost here. Check out a few of the events and activities we have hosted on our courts!”
Spring Tennis & Pickleball Open House
Our annual Open House event went out without a hitch with over 40 members and guests enjoying fun games for kids, open pickleball play, a 'Hit the Prize' challenge; and for the first time, an exhibition match featuring our own junior tennis stars. Our players put on an amazing show Pictured on the left are match players Marcus Kim, Diego Chung, Spencer Barney and Winston Chan. To the right are the coaches with some of our up and coming youngsters.
Women's Tennis Association
Congrats to everyone who has made this our biggest and best season ever. Over 50 players have become members of the association. Everyone has worked so hard to improve skills and help us welcome new members to our courts The secret is out; Spirited competition, check! Sportsmanship and comradeship, check! Plus, our parties, events and luncheon’s are so much fun!
Junior Tennis
Our junior tennis program continues to thrive. We're incredibly proud of our players who have joined the La Serna High School varsity team, and the boys team that got to the tough CIF semifinals this season. We're also thrilled by the success of our Saturday morning Hot Shots program for 4-7 year olds, which is rapidly expanding our young player base. Due to the programs growth we have added a coach to the staff. Diego Ostuni who comes to us from Argentina is doing a great job helping us on the courts.
On Pickleball
The pickleball courts have been buzzing with activity on weeknights. As a reminder our pro shop is now fully stocked with a fantastic selection of shoes, paddles, balls, and accessories –everything you need to get in on the action! If you want to learn how to play, or polish your skills our certified pickleball coach and director of racquet sports is ready to help. If you hitting the courts we recommend a reservation, but drop in play is still possible despite our growth. A few simple courtesy rules will help make your visit a breeze. First, three guests per member is the rule… Have fun but try and keep noise levels under control. Shirts are required, water only on the courts, and remember that adults have priority over the courts after 5pm. Courts do close at 9pm.
Summer Tennis Camps
Summer is just around the corner, The Sports Camps are nearly sold out, and we're now accepting registrations for our traditional summer tennis camp program which begins on June 14th. These tennis camp morning programs are held throughout the summer These programs fill up quickly, so reserve your spot soon! We look forward to seeing you on the courts!
Classes for all levels and are held in the mornings to beat the heat Mini camps from 9am to 10:30 for younger children, and 9 to 12 for kids with more advanced skills.

The excitement begins with Dive Finals on Wednesday (7/15), followed by Swim Prelims on Friday (7/17) and Swim Finals on Saturday (7/18). With many athletes and families visiting throughout the week, the Club will be buzzing with energy and activity, providing a wonderful opportunity to showcase our beautiful facilities and welcoming community. JUNIOR SPORTS CAMP
Week 1: 6/16 – 6/19 | Week 2: 6/23 – 6/26 | Week 3: 7/7 – 7/10
Check-in:
Begins at 9:30am on the pool deck on the first day of camp to fill out the required paperwork Check-in for all other days will be at 10:00am on the pool deck Camp: 10:30am – 4:00pm
Additional Information Needed:
We will ask you to note if your child or grandchild is a part of the Swim & Dive team This will allow for a smoother check-out process Please note if your child or grandchild has any food restrictions or allergies ahead of time We have provided a menu below for your convenience Age: 6 – 12 ~ No exceptions
Pickup:
No later than 4:00pm on the pool deck If pickup exceeds 4:00pm, members may be subject to a late fee If temperatures exceed 98 degrees, pickup will be indoors If your child or grandchild is not a part of the Swim & Dive team, please check-out with an FHCC Staff member prior to leaving the Club
Schedule of Events:
10:30am – 12:00pm ~ 1 session st 12:00pm – 1:00pm ~ Lunch 1:00pm – 2:30pm ~ 2 session nd 2:30pm – 3:00pm ~ Snack 3:00pm – 4:00pm ~ Swimming
Items your children or grandchildren may need:
- Swimsuit, sunscreen, towel, and goggles for the swim portion You may bring whatever else they may need for the pool
- Athletic wear and comfortable, non-marking, close-toed shoes for the golf and tennis portion We would also recommend a hat/visor
- Golf clubs & tennis rackets for the golf portion are highly recommended, but we do have some junior club rentals available on a first come first serve basis
