WELCOME TO THE 7TH Annual Arts Alive in Agriculture juried art show, presented by the Fresno Arts Council!

As a community, we recognize the important role agriculture plays in our Central Valley's economy.

Arts Alive in Agriculture is a yearly celebration that tells the story of farming in Fresno County through art works from local artists that comment on both the beauty and challenges of feeding a hungry world. This year's showcase features landscapes of our farmland through the seasons, portraits of the people and technology that make these labors possible, documentary and manipulated photography, and three-dimensional art works including sculpture, assemblage, and found objects.

CONTEST JUDGES

BRUCE KALKOWSKI Bruce Kalkowski is the current President of the Fresno Arts Council Board of Directors. He founded B-K Lighting, a manufacturer of landscape and architectural lighting, and 1821 Gallery and Studios; he has since retired. Kalkowski attended both Fresno State University and the University of California, Santa Cruz.

RACHEL MAGNUS Rachel Magnus began her artistic experience early in life, visiting museums, architectural destinations, and galleries throughout the country. Her love of the visual arts grew as she traveled internationally and studied Art History at Cal State University Bakersfield. There, Magnus attained her bachelor’s degree in art history with a minor in Religious Studies.

Magnus began her career at the Bakersfield Museum of Art as a curatorial intern in 2011. At that time, she launched a devoted interest in the Museum world while specifically focusing on exhibitions and collections. She held the title of Curatorial Assistant until the Summer of 2015 when she was awarded the title of Curator. During her time at BMoA she has mounted over 55 exhibitions, managed Via Arté the annually held Italian Street painting festival for five year and planned many of the museums public programs including: Art After Dark and Second Saturday Lecture program.

Magnus’ strong ties to Bakersfield and her passion for the community have fueled her desire to nurture Kern County through the visual arts. She has worked on multiple mural projects for the city and currently serves as a Board member for The Hub of Bakersfield, a local non-profit devoted to redefining and revitalizing Bakersfield’s urban core.
