According to Butterworth, recruiting high school coaches is difficult due to the varying athleticism of athletes, and the lower pay and greater amount of work needed compared to coaching for athletic clubs. However, Butterworth states Puccinelli and her have been reaching out to the community, nearby athletic swim clubs and on-site teachers. According to Puccinelli, only two teachers have offered assistance in helping the swim team. With the small pool of applicants in the beginning of the season, finding a coach able to communicate effectively and willing to coach at the high school level is still a work in progress, wobbling on a minute-by-minute basis. “Our JV team is not a very serious team,” Carmen Steinmeier, captain of the varsity team, said. “Some people just come out and they’ve never swam before. So our JV team in particular needs a lot of attention. It’s going to be really hard for the coach because the coach always needs to be with JV. Varsity probably won’t get a lot of attention.” Other concerns for the future of the 2015-2016 swim season, given there is

swimmer, said. “The time that he could spend with us to look at our technique, to look how we’re swimming and improving on that is taken away. Who’s going to coach us?” According to Moris Clark, former varsity girls swim coach, “the biggest implication is just there’s a trust issue in terms of the coach, the players and the parents.” “That’s the biggest thing with coaching,” Clark said. “There has to be a trust between coaches and athletes, and in this environment, parents as well. That their athletes and their kids are being cared for.” Although Clark is volunteering, he views the assistance to not be as effective as a full-time coach. However, he sees this conflict as a potential problem which can unify the Fremont community in order to resolve this problem. When asked if swim season would resume, Butterworth stated “If you asked me yesterday, I would have been less hopeful,” Butterworth said. “Today, I’m more hopeful. But, I don’t know. I don’t know.”
