It’s always interesting to work with fabric that is a little outside your standard design aesthetic. It challenges you to find different ways of thinking about color, scale design, etc. I thought a lot about the push and pull of dark and light. Often the worst times in our lives lead to some of the brightest, I wanted the colors to help find that balance.

Cutting: Fabrics B, C, M, & N, from each cut: (2) 31⁄2" squares Fabrics H & J, from each cut: (1) 71⁄2" square (2) 4" squares (2) 31⁄2" x 61⁄2"

Sewing Instructions: Note: All seam allowances are 1⁄4". Sew fabrics with right sides together. 1. Draw a diagonal line across the wrong side of all the Fabric H 4" and 71⁄2" squares. Draw 2 lines, 1⁄4" on each side of the first line. 2. Arrange a marked Fabric H 4" square right sides together with a Fabric J 4" square aligning all edges. Stitch on both outside lines. Cut the center line creating 2 units. Trim each to 31⁄2" square. Repeat to make a total of 4 Unit 1. Fig. 1 Fig. 1

3. Repeat Step 2 with Fabrics H and J 7-1⁄2" squares. Do not trim. Make 2 Unit 2. 4. Draw a diagonal line across the wrong side of 1 Unit 2. Draw 2 lines, 1⁄4" on each side of the first line. Align both Unit 2 right sides together, alternating Fabric J triangles. Fig. 2 Fig. 2
